Ok, so I’ve been considering three different setups for my sorcerer DPS (I have over 450 CP so TBS is useless for me the way I understand it). I would like some opinions from sorcerers better than me on which I should go with. Prior to this update (which I do not know the name of ) I was running 4 Overwhelming, 2 Torug’s Pact, 2 Molag Kena, and 3 Willpower, but obviously this is not best anymore. Anyways…
SETUP 1:
2 Molag Kena, 5 Julianos, 3 Willpower, Maelstrom Inferno Staff, 2 Torug’s Pact (DW bar)
SETUP 2:
2 Nerien’eth, 5 Julianos, 3 Willpower, Maelstrom Inferno Staff, 2 Torug’s Pact (DW bar)
SETUP 3:
1 Molag Kena, 2 Torug’s Pact, 5 Julianos, 3 Willpower, 3 Torug’s Pact (Third piece is DW bar only)
I don’t think Nerien’eth setup is worth it because I won’t get a lot of procs when overloading due to not being able to weave, and because I barely have any CP in Thaumaturge. I could be wrong though.
So basically, I’m left deciding between setup 1 or setup 3. From my testing, Molag Kena provides a ~9% damage increase on most skills, but can only be kept up 80% of the time (can’t reproc while active) at best leading to a DPS increase of ~7.2% At first glance this seems like the obvious choice, but Molag Kena also brings my total overload count down from 45 down to 36 which makes it actually an inefficient way to overload because the extra 9 overloads provide a lot more DPS (unless the boss will die or be execute range in sub 36 overloads). I don’t proc Kena while executing (this might not be smart, but I don’t think its worth it, especially on a DW bar… true or not?) so my execute potential is exactly the same in both setups minus an extra HP bonus in the setup that only has 2 Torug’s Pact on the DW bar (whatever who cares). Initially this caused me to believe that setup 3 was easily superior, but I forgot to take into account the proccing of Kena on my staff bar. This is where it got confusing…
In setup 1 you lose Nirnhoned (4% spell pen) and a fire enchant (~200 DPS) and you have to light weave every 6 seconds twice, losing DPS there (not sure how much, but I understand that under normal circumstances a med weave is significantly better than a light one). In exchange for the spell pen and fire enchant, you get 60 spell damage (from Maelstrom Inferno), but from everything I’ve read this is not as powerful as the penetration and fire enchant (makes sense to me, not 100% sure though since I don’t know how to test that and am relying on other people for it). You gain 7.2% DPS in setup 1 however from Kena, NOT taking into account the DPS you lose for the three aforementioned reasons which means your DPS gain from 2 Kena is somewhere below 7.2% during the time you are on your staff bar. Seems like a lot, but in most fights where you use overload, your staff bar DPS is a small fraction of your DPS compared to overload and execute and you lose DPS in overload mode with 2 Kena (again, in fights longer than 36 overloads) plus the more time spent overloading (probably about 10 seconds feels right) is less time you spend on your staff bar losing DPS.
It seems to me that setup 3 wins at least in longer fights, but due to not knowing all the numbers for sure, and due to vMA not having blessed me with an inferno yet, I cannot know for sure. Better sorcs, please advise
NOTE: Cost increase of Kena is not an issue for me, I can sustain easy.
