- Introduction
Stam DKS are arguably the best overall dps in the game (aoe & single target combined), and have the potential to outdps even a Magicka DK, here’s my stam dk build for 2.2, after seeing little attention given to stam DKs in this forum, as well as @Alcast confirming he won’t release a Stam DK build this patch, i felt alot of people might appreciate a proper detailed stam dk here on foundry!
This will be my main class for the Thieves Guild, my magplar is great and fun to play, but the damage is not really on par with any other classes, and in the new trial our group will need as much damage as possible, therefore i will focus on this build more in the upcomming DLC, although i will still update my magplar ofcourse.
- Race:
At the moment i am a Redguard, in my opinion this is the superior choice because of the boosted maximum stamina, and the Adrenaline Rush passive, giving you a huge boost to sustain. Here are a list of the top race choices.
1. Redguard – Boosted Stamina recovery, Maximum Stamina and 1k stamina restored on melee hits every 3 seconds. – Amazing sustain and a good boost to overall damage with max stamina, i feel this is the best combination of damage and sustain, and therefore the best race overall for running this build.
2. Khajiit – Boosted Health & Stamina recovery, Increase Crit chance by 8% – The crit given by this passive is huge, and allows for some other options of gear that you wouldn’t be able to choose if you weren’t a Khajiit, for example as a Khajiit it might be better to run sharpened traits instead of precise, etc. Very interresting choice.
3. Dark Elf – Maximum Stamina & Magicka (6%), Flame Resistance, and 7% Increased damage on fire spells – This will increase your Standard and Unstable flame damage, i haven’t tested it but if you’re a Dunmer it might be worth using Burning Breath as well.
4. Imperial – Boosted Maximum Health, Boosted Maximum Stamina & Chance to restore Health on Melee attacks – 10% Max stamina, it will increase your overall damage by a large amount, defineatly not a bad choice either, if you already have a imperial made.
- Attributes:
Put points into Health til you have 17k HP, then all into stamina.
- Passives:
- Mundus Stone:
The Shadow will give you the best overall DPS if you have the correct traits for your MSA weapons (Precise x2, One being a Dagger), if you have for example 2 Sharpened Axes, i’d go thief untill you get better traits.
- Armour – These are the “BoS” (best-in slot) items for running this build, these are not what i use currently, i do not have the right armor type and trait for my monster set, although i am actively farming for it.
Head: Kena (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Shoulders: Kena (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Chest: Hundings Rage (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Hands: Hundings Rage (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Waist: Hundings Rage (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Legs: Hundings Rage (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Feet: Hundings Rage (Medium Armor, Divines, Stamina Enchantment)
Necklace: Agility (Robust, Maximum Weapon Damage Enchantment)
Ring #1: Agility (Robust, Maximum Weapon Damage Enchantment)
Ring #2: Agility (Robust, Maximum Weapon Damage Enchantment)
- 7/7 Medium or 5 Medium 1 Heavy 1 Light?
So, the main reason at the moment i run 7/7 Medium is that i’m still farming my last undaunted passives, but i think 7/7 medium will be superior for any setup unless you’re a khajiit, What i might try once i get rank 2 Undaunted Mettle is 1 Heavy 6 Medium, but for now, personally i’m running 7/7 Medium for a huge bonus to crit chance.
- Weapons:
Bar #1 (Main DPS bar): x1 Maelstroms Dagger in Precise, x1 Maelstroms Axe in Precise. The reason for not going 2 axes is that it’s bugged currently, and you will not get a higher chance then 8% to proc a bleed on a one-handed axe, so a second one would be completely useless, the reason for not going 2 daggers is the bleed from the axe is amazing! Plus, it gets affected by the 3k weapon damage bonus from your Cruel Flurry procs.
Note: If you don’t have maelstrom one-handed weapons yet i strongly urge you to farm them! There is not a single set piece that has this much effect on a setups dps as these items, no doubt one of the most powerfull pieces of gear out there.
Bar #2 (Backup Buff bar): x1 Maelstroms Bow in Precise, You will use a bow for the extra dots Sorched Earth and Poison Injection, the bonus damage added to Scorched Earth from the bow is a very nice bonus.
- Skill Bars:
- Bar #1 (Main DPS bar):

1) Rapid Strikes – Your Bread and Butter DPS skill, casting this will increase the damage of your next single target DoT by over 3k weapon damage, it’s also a really strong single target ability, i’ve seen hits go for upto 20k on mantikora, and upto 23k on daedric mobs.
2) Unstable Flame – One of the most powerfull DoTs in the game, the fact that it’s increased by 3k weapon damage after a rapid strike makes it completely ridicilous, i’ve seen hits for upto 17k on the serpent after only a couple of runs.
3) Steel Tornado / Rearming Trap – Steel Tornado will be your main AoE ability, this is by far the most powerfull AoE in the game, for single target fights i will swap it out for Rearming Trap, increasing my crit damage by 12% for 12 seconds total.
4) Rending Slashes – Another great DoT that just becomes even better with the Maelstrom weapons, the damage is also increased on targets lower then 25% from your dual wield passives.
5) Flames Of Oblivion / Camouflaged Hunter – Flames of Oblivion will be your Stamina version of Inner Light, it gives you the 10% crit buff as well as a strong single target dot that also is affected by the Maelstrom bonus Damage. Camouflaged hunter will be its replacement on both bars when fighting daedric mobs, currently you cannot use both at the same time, as there is a bug with it when you bar swap that lowers your crit chance by 10% instead of increasing it.
6) The Ultimate – Flawless Dawnbreaker – Amazing passive weapon damage boost, that’s all, never cast this.Bar #2 (Backup Buff bar):
- Bar #2 (Backup Buff bar):

1) Rearming Trap – You will only use this before fights where the boss spawns on it / walks into it, examples are the last boss of Spindleclutch, or Mantikora (if you fight it in the center), If i’m doing the Serpent in Hardmode i swap it for a magicka skill (currently Eruption), incase something goes wrong and i get the magicka bomb.
2) Sorched Earth – This dot is so powerfull! It will always be one of your top 5 DPS sources in your damage stats, the reason we go with the scorched morph and not the other one is that Scorched Earth is affected by your “World In Flame” passive (Increase damage of flame based AoE effects by 6%)
3) Poison Injection – This would probably not be worth using if it wasn’t for the maelstrom weapons, personally i only add this to my rotation when the boss reaches 50% and less, as it gets higher damage the lower health the target becomes.
4) Anti-Cavalry Caltrops – A decent aoe damage over time, cast it once, and you will get 2k dps for 35 seconds, its as simple as that, absolutely worth casting it once every 35 seconds.
5) Flames Of Oblivion / Camouflaged Hunter – See Above.
6) The Ultimate – Standard of Might – One of the best ultimates in the game, amazing damage + 20% increased damage dealt for 17 seconds.
- List of DoTs being used that are affected by the Cruel Flurry enchantment.
– Unstable Flame
– Rending Slashes
– Flames of Oblivion
– Bleeding (Chance this procs from your Axe weapon attacks)
– Poison Injection
– Poisoned (Chance this procs from your Poison Injecton)
– Burning (Chance this procs from your Unstable flame,Standard of Might or Scorched Earth)
- Rotation:
This is a example of the rotation used in a bossfight for Mantikora, i use this as a example as it’s the rotation used for the majority of bosses (dailies, other trials, etc).
Start off by dropping scorched earth, caltrops and standard, swap bars, light attack, rearming trap, light attack, rapid strikes, light attack, unstable flame, light attack, rending slashes, light attack, rapid strikes x2, swap bars, light attack, scorched earth, swap bars, light attack (this will proc kena), rearming trap, repeat.
On any fight shorter then 45 seconds do not reapply caltrops.
At 50% add a Poison Injection right before Scorched Earth.
