As a certain person would say.. The time of magplars is NIGH!!!! This patch has given a HUGE buff to magplars! And i’m very confident i have cracked the absolute max dps output possible with this patch as a magplar, and i can’t wait to share it with you!

  • Race:
High elf is best, Breton is good, but high elf is a lot better especially with this patch.

  • Attribute Points:
Put everything in Magicka to stack the max damage possible

  • Mundus Stone:
If you choose to use Twice-Born Star (as you should), go with The Thief and The Shadow, if however you end up using Julianos, go with The Thief.

  • Armour:

These are the “BIS (Best-In-Slot”) items for this setup, you do not necesarilly HAVE to have all the correct traits, but if you do not i highly recommend farming for them.

Head: Molag Kena (Light Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)
Shoulders: Molag Kena (Light Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)
Chest: Twice-Born Star (Heavy Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)
Legs: Twice-Born Star (Medium Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)
Hands: Twice-Born Star (Light Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)
Belt: Twice-Born Star (Light Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)
Shoes: Twice-Born Star (Light Armor, Divines, Magicka Enchantment)

Note: For AoE i swap out Kena for x2 Valkyn Skoria.

  • Jewellry:

For bossfights ideally Moondancer jewellry would be the best (5% extra damage to bosses), but for anything other then bossfights Willpower is defineatly superior, Moondancer can take a while to farm so untill you have it, willpower is still very good.

  • Use Moondancer/Willpower, with full Spelldmg Enchants, and Maximum Magicka traits.

  • Weapons:

Bar #1 (DoT bar):

Maelstroms Inferno Staff, Precise Trait.
Note: If you do not have the Maelstrom staff a v16 (no set item) staff with a poison damage enchant and a nirnhoned trait is perfectly fine, but go farm MSA!

Bar #2 (Main DPS Bar):

x2 Torug Pact Swords in Nirnhoned, one with a “Absorb Magicka” enchantment, and one with a Flame enchant.

  • Skill Bars:

Bar #1 (DoT bar):

The purpose of these skills is basicly to light attack weave them while applying, to then proc kena, switching bars and spamming darkflare.

1) Channeled Focus – This isn’t a skill you will be using often, if your group support is top-notch you will only have to use this in very particular situations whenever your magicka runs low, or in aoe fights, as a rule for myself, whenever i drop below 20% magicka i put a Channeled Focus down as i’m weaving my dots.

2) Vampire’s Bane – With the new CP tree locations you get basicly 25% more overall fire damage compared to the last patch, making this skill finally as good as it should be, a great dot, it does alot of dps.

3) Lightweight Beast Trap / Rearming Trap – This is one of the most important skills of the build, 12% critical damage bonus is HUGE when your dark flares hit as high as they will, if you are in Maw of Lorkhaj there is a LOT of movement constantly and you cannot always be close to the bosses, so i recommend using the ranged morph for Maw of Lorkhaj and the Rearming morph for every other trial / Veteran Dungeon.

4) Blockade of Fire – This skill got a huge buff this patch, it does some insane damage, it ticks for upto 16k in certain situations, and the light attack bonus damage from your MSA staff is a great source of bonus DPS.

5) Inner Light – Not much to say, slotted for the bonus 5% Magicka.

6) The Ultimate: Shooting Star – With the new CP locations this is now better then Dawnbreaker of Smiting (Exceptions of when you are fighting daedric mobs, slot Dawnbreaker of Smiting for that!)

  • Bar #2 (Main DPS bar):

1) Puncturing Sweeps – I really wanted Dark Flare to be the best, but unforteneatly the evidence is undeniable that Sweeps deals more DPS, it’s your bread and butter DPS skill, you should be familiar with it, it does some nice damage, counts as a DoT, and procs Burning Light very consistently.

2) Proximity Detonation – Cast it on yourself, 8 seconds later you explode for anywhere from 20-70k damage ;).

3) Radiant Opression – The strongest execute in the game, enough said.

4) Blazing Spear – Your main AoE ability, pretty self explanatory.

5) Inner Light – As Above.

6) The Ultimate: As Above.

  • Rotation (And when to use what):
    Basic Rotation:

Start off by casting proximity detonation, swap bars and: Light Attack – Wall of elements – Light Attack – Trap Beast –  Vampire’s Bane – Swap Bars. *do this quickly to completely animation cancel the cast time of Vampire’s Bane* – Light attack – Puncturing Sweeps – Puncturing Sweeps – Puncturing Sweeps – Puncturing Sweeps – Puncturing Sweeps – Proximity Detonation – Swap Bars. *do this quickly to completely animation cancel the cast time of Proximity Detonation. Repeat.

At 35% instead of doing Sweeps, cast Radiant Oppresion 3 times.

At 25% Stop swapping bars, and do 2 light attacks while doing Radiant Oppresion when Overkill (molag kena) runs out with your Dual-Wield.

At 10% Stop proccing overkill, beam away.

AoE Rotation:

This is kind of depending on the situation, but this would be the “basic” rotation for most scenarios: Proximity Detonation. Swap Bars. Wall of Elements – Trap Beast. Swap Bars. Blazing Spear. (proximity should go off at this point) so reapply Proximity Detonation. Spam blazing spear untill your “Minor Force” buff dissapears, then repeat the barswap.

Note:  AoE on this build can be really resource heavy, i recommend trying to keep down a Channeled Focus for the majority of the fight, especially if you are standing still, also make sure your group has Necrotic Orbs, it’s very important.

  • Champion Points:
Note: If you are doing Sanctum Ophidia it might be a good idea to have 100 points in poison resistance.                                                                           Note2: Why so many points into Thaumaturge? Simple, both Proximity Detonation and Puncturing Sweeps is considered a DoT, basicly every single skill on your bar except for your execute is a DoT.
• Importance of group support:
For this build to be viable, your healer HAS to use “Siphon Spirit” on bosses, the reason is this will restore magicka on attacks, elemental drain does the same thing, but only when you hit with elemental damage (blockade of fire, light attacks, vampire bane..), siphon spirit procs off magic damage.
You will also need magicka orbs (necrotic orb) while aoeing to sustain your magicka, if your magicka ever runs below 20%, cast a channeled focus while doing your DoT rotation.

  • DPS parses:
Bogdan The Nightflame (Without Spellpower Cure): 2nd Boss AA: Last Boss vDSA:  2nd Boss vMOL:
• Final Note:
Magplars are amazing, they finally got the buff they deserved, if you end up running this setup please link your dps in this thread, i would love to see it. Also don’t be shy to ask any questions or come with suggestions, i’m very happy to answer!
