hello to all, my name is ollie, most know me as @zornyan and I’m finally happy to share my magicka templar pvp build !
this is my first ever build post on TF, so please anyone feel free to criticise and comment on my formatting and clarity of my post
to start, I’ve been playing magicka template since the game dropped on console, it’s my truly favourite class, I switched to pc back around orsinium launch as console felt too bare bones and lacking in many departments, after spending nearly all my pvp time with my templar, I feel I’ve got a solid build that works well in all scenarios of gameplay.
appropriately named the wrath of meridia, as I like to roll around smiting all those pesky enemies (which most certainly are agents of molag bal)
recommend races
breton for more defense, high elf for a bit more damage, or imperial to be very tanky and have big stat pools.
mundus stone, the atro (magicka regen)
I use tri stat food vr15
5l/1m/1 h
gear
5x julianos
3x willpower, all arcane, 3 spell damage enchants
2 valkyn skoria
2x torugs swords, nirnhoned
IMPEN on ALL armor, I honestly can’t see myself without impen, 7x pieces is a 30% iirc critical damage reduction which is HUGE, especially with so many other high damage builds running around.
all armor enchanted with magicka enchants.
BAR SETUP
main bar, dual wield
puncturing sweeps, bread and butter offensive skill, heals plenty too, enough said.
radiant oppression, use it when your target gets to about 30% hp, watch them burn! also useful against roll dodge spammers, and people in mist form at low hp.
toppling charge, it’s buggy, but it works enough of the time, can hit hard and a decent CC.
structured entropy, 8% health is good, and it’s our main source of major sorcery, as well as empowerment.
dark flare, hits insanely hard, major defile, empower on next attack, 5% minor sorc buff to our skills, pulls night blades out of stealth, need I say more?
ulti: devouring swarm, good aoe ulti that hits hard thanks to double dipping cp, restores a good amount of hp and gives great survivability 1vx.
back bar, sword and board
breath of life, our “oh shit burst heal”
channeled focus, our magicka battery, and armor buff, keep this up 100% of the time.
proxy det, hits hard, vital as a source of burst, keep up 100% of the time.
mist form, our source of mobility, this has been fixed and applies the full 75% damage reduction in my testings, which can give you some vital breathing space.
purifying ritual, major mending, clense off roots and debuffs/dots, practically free to cast.
ulti : crescent sweep, since tg changes this hits HARD , I’ve had 13k hits on players, cheap enough to be nearly spammable, again pulses pull night blades from stealth.
cp distribution, currently I’m a 473 cp my recommendation is as follows.
the blue tree, 73/73 thum/ele expert split, then the rest into elfborn, if you feel a bit fragile, take 10 from thum and ele, and put into blessed for more healing.
the red tree, 48/48 hardy and elemental, then a 3 way split between block expertise, thick skinned and resistant to get the largest damage reduction overall against all types.
the green tree, 65 magician, 65 arcanist, then the rest into tumbling for that vital break free cost reduction.
a few basic of this build, magicka regen is not going to be high, but it will be plenty if you manage your resources well, don’t panic and spam skills, be aware of surroundings and LoS if you need to.
my basic rotation 1v1 or 1vx is, load up proxy, hit structured for spell power buff and empower, toppling charge in then start sweeping ! I’ve hit absurdly high numbers with this build, with each hit of sweep critting for 3k! proxy hitting for 11k etc, you can annihilate someone within seconds!
immovable pots are your friend! we don’t have much stam, so these are our way of making sure we can go full offensive without the need to worry about breaking free.
use your ultimate wisely, cresent sweep is a dammit hard hitting skill, so time it with a proxy then radiant to really batter people down.
magicka dks are our worst nightmare, they will spam talons, so keep using purify to remove them, don’t use dark flare as this reflected back will do huge damage to you, just keep purifying and sweep when possible, they’ll run out of resources long before you if all they do is talons.
when fighting night blades save crescent for the moment they pop cloak, if you can toppling in to stun them, and use crescent , it’s aoe pulses will pull them out of stealth, if they skill doesn’t instantly finish them off, don’t use radiant as it will be merely purged and give them time to escape.
against sorcs the key is pressure, when they camp in mines stand on the edge, you can hit them from outside the mines safely, just keep pressure up without exposing yourself, if you see a meteor/frag combo then pop mist form to negate most of the damage..
I’ll have pictures up Monday of my stats and hopefully get a few videos together for you all, I hope this can be of some help to people interested in templar pvp, I’ve had lots of success with this lately , both in dueling sessions and small scale /open world.
