So you wanna play a stamplar (dps) in PvP. In this post I’ll try to give some advice and my opinion on gear, skills , cp etc. Advice and my opinion as nothing in this game is set into stone. That’s why I love ESO :) Alot depends on your playstyle, race, cp, choosen campaign etc. That’s why I moved away from a build guide. There’s no best build in this game. It is important to understand how everything works for you to be effective though. Now let’s get started shall we.

Race:

If you favor max dmg Redguard and Imperial are your best bet. Redguard offering more sustain on the side, while Imperial is more tanky. Bosmer is also a good choice for the stam regen if you favor sustain. Orc with the weapon dmg and speed. Khajiit for the crit.

Skills:

Aedric Spear:

Radial Sweep: Both morphs are good for what they do. So if you want more mitigation Empowering Sweep is a solid choice. Crescent Sweep is a good choice for burst. Compared to Flawless Dawnbreaker, which is the most used ulti imo, this offers more upfront dmg and less dot dmg, although it requires you to be near your target. Considering the low cost a great choice.

Puncturing Strikes > Biting Jabs: Bread and butter dps skill. Can be hard to land all 4 hits in PvP. 4th strike has to hit in order for it to snare. Cc’ing your target helps to get all hits in. Has an inherent crit modifier making it hit hard on anything but dmg shields as those still cannot be crit. Usualy procs Burning Light passive in a channel. As a channel benefits from Thaumaturge in the blue CP tree and can proc Valkyn Skoria set.

Piercing Javeling > Binding Javelin: Ranged cc with good dmg. Had it’s ranged increased in TG Dlc setting it more apart from Magnum Shot. Magnum Shot still has the self knock back and a lower cost though. So for people with low CP or running low regen Magnum Shot is a good alternative when playing bow. Can be used to get the Piercing Spear passive on a bow or s/b offhand bar.

Spear Shards > Blazing Spear: Good AoE and a cc. Good filler till you get Caltrops. Can proc Burning Light and Valkyn Skoria.

Sun Shield: Either morph has it’s value imo. Since it costs magicka the  lower cost of Radiant Ward can benefit a stam build if you plan to use it alot. Blazing Shield on the other hand can offer some more dmg, and even burst if timed right. Scaling off max hp and with the -50% on dmg shields in PvP you won’t get a big shield, but remember dmg shields can not be crit so you can use it to prevent the next attack hitting you from critting.

All passives are important here.

Dawn’s Wrath:

Nova: Good ulti for group play as it is a bit to costly for my taste for solo play. Go for Solar Prison if you can count on teammates to active the synergy. Go for Solar Disturbance if want the snare, keeping them in the AoE longer thus dealing more dmg.

Sun Fire: Both morphs are valid imo. Vampire’s Bane does more dmg, but since it scales of magicka we use it for the snare and not the dmg. Hence why I prefer Reflective Light. Snaring 3 pursuers can be the difference between life and death. Can proc Valkyn Skoria. Weird to mention for a stam build I know, but try it ;)

Restoring Spirit is the passive to get here. Enduring Rays if you use Reflective Light, Illuminate too if you have spare skillpoints.

Restoring Light:

Rushed Ceremony > Honor the Dead: Good for PvE, less so for PvP. Mentioned here for people who don’t have Vigor yet as it is a good alternative till you do.

Restoring Aura > Repentance: Get free stamina and a heal from corpses? Yes pls! Remember any, unexploited, corpse will do. That includes the automaton from the Engine Guardian set. I said unexploited as each corpse can only be repent once. So when facing enemy templars, be sure to be first.

Cleansing Ritual > Purifying Ritual: Best cleanse in the game imo. The low cost makes it useable on stam builds. Triggers Mending and is a hot to boot. A must have on all builds imo.

Rune Focus > Restoring Focus: So much mitigation, so much healiing. Great skill for a low cost.

All passives but Light Weaver here. Although you can do without Master Ritualist if you have few skillpoints.

I’m not gonna list all Stamina weapon skills (maybe later :P) as they’re not templar bound.

Gear:

Jewelry:

Before V1 there aren’t that many options. Fiord’s Legacy 2x Rings when below 50 is an option with any necklace. At V1 Morag Tong Necklace is available, combined with 1 or more armor pieces to get bonuses. At V14 we have Shadowwalker rings. At V16 Endurance and Agility sets are the most commenly used. Marksman’s Crest, Briarthorn and Leki’s Focus offer good bonuses too Note that the Endurance, Agility and Briarthorn sets can be found at lower lvl, but it’s uncommon and usualy not worth the gold.

Trait Robust if you can for more stamina and thus more dmg. Or Healthy if you want more hp or don’t have the cash for Robust ones as they are usualy cheaper. Here is where your race choice and total CP comes into play as each point into the green or red tree will increase your max amount of stamina or health respectively.

Glyph is up to you. Weapon dmg if you can, stam regen if you need more sustain. Race and CP again. Remember that if you play on Azura’s Star CP won’t matter so you might want to take that into consideration when choosing glyphs.

Monstersets:

Bloodspawn x2: More stam regen, more mitigation. Nice set for a stam build.

Engine Guardian x2: More sustain although the magicka is often lost unless you play arround it. Eg. spamming Blazing Shield during a magicka proc. I feel this set is better on a magicka build, but still good choice if you have it.

Molag Kena x1, Bloodspawn x1: More weapon dmg, more stam regen. Most used combo imo.

Spawn of Mephala x2: Good choice if you prefer to stay at range or to help you land jabs. Not the best, but not bad either.

Craftable armor/weapon sets:

Night’s Silence up to 4 pieces is good when starting out.

Ashen Grip x4 same.

Nightmother’s Gaze x4 is good for the extra crit.

Hunding’s Rage x5 is most common used. Crit and weapon dmg.

Morkuldin x4(5) offers good bonuses. Note that the animated sword can pull enemies out of stealth and does respectable dmg.

Eternal Hunt x4(5) for good bonuses and the Poison Rune is very useful and does good dmg if used correctly.

Dropped armorsets:

Briarthorn: Nice crit bonuses, 5 piece bonus can be maintained about 66% of the time if build right.

Leki’s Focus x4: Offers good mix.

Marksman’s Crest x5: Good sustain set all arround, even better for bow orientated buidls.

Shadowwalker x4: Nice bonuses and available in V16 now.

Sheer Venom x4: Weapon dmg.

Shield Breaker x4(5): Good mix.

Hawk’s Eye x5: For bow orientated builds.

Traits: Best option is impen for PvP atm. Divines and infused are stil usefull if you need more stats, sustain or just have bad luck with RNG.

Dropped weapons:

Veteran Maelstrom Arena weapons. Best traits are Sharpened and Precise if you the RNG loves you.

Consumables:

Food/Drink:

Most used is +hp/+stam regen food. If you build your gear correctly you can go +hp/+max stam though increasing your dmg. Just make sure you give up less on your gear then you gain by the max stam increase. For reference 10.5 stam will increase dmg equal to 1 weapondmg.

The tri stat regen drink can be useful if you plan on using your magicka abilites alot.

Pots:

I usaly run with health/stam/immovable pots, Detection pots to look for those pesky Nightblades and Vanishing Pots to get away when not running vampire for Elusive Mist. Tri stat pots are worth mentioning too, or weapon dmg/crit pots if you don’t run Rally.

Champion Tree: (Between brackets is a recommended spread to start from)

Blue:

Mighty is your primary dmg increaser. (100)

Precise Strikes if you rely on crit. (27)

Thaumaturge if you play alot on dots and channels. Remember ESO counts channels as dots, that includes Biting Jabs, Wrecking Blow etc. (27)

Piercing: only put a few points in here. (13)

Blessed if you want to increase your healing.

Green:

Mooncalf (100) over Warlord (28) as blocking/dodging consumes stamina but isn’t affected by Warlord. Same for Break Free, but we have Tumbling (39) to remedy this a bit.

Bashing focus if you LA-skill-Bash alot.

Red:

The Unchained passive in the Lady is nice. If you don’t mind putting alot of points into Hardy (60)  and Elemental Defender (60). Resistant (47) is realy good to mitigate dmg in PvP. Quick Recovery to increase healing received.

Sample builds:

Metabuild 2H/Bow:

Bloodspawn x1, Molag Kena x1, Hunding’s Rage x5, Agility x3, VMSA 2H, VMSA Bow. Max hp/stam regen food. Serpent mundus.

Stampede/Crit Rush, Wrecking Blow, Executioner, Rally, Biting Jabs/Repentance, Crescent Sweep.

Poison Injection, Binding Javelin, Resolving Vigor, Restoring Focus, Purifying Ritual, Ice Comet/Nova.

=> Stampede to help land Wrecking Blow/Biting Jabs. Crit Rush if you feel you’re experienced enough to go without. Repentance if you need the passive stam regen. Eg. when playing Imperial over Redguard or even Nord like me :P Or when playing on Azura’s Star and don’t have your CP helping.

IC variation on meta:

Bloodspawn x1, Molag Kena x1, Hunding’s Rage x5, Agility x3, VMSA 2H, VMSA Bow. Max hp/stam regen food. Serpent mundus.

Stampede/Crit Rush, Biting Jabs, Executioner, Rally, Repentance, Crescent Sweep.

Arrow Barrage, Binding Javelin, Resolving Vigor, Restoring Focus, Purifying Ritual, Ice Comet/Nova.

=> Repentance is king in IC with all the mobs arround. Focuses a bit more on AoE to get those mobs down fast to even the playing field. Arrow Barrage is buffed by the VMSA bow.

Solo orientated, dodgy playstyle:

Bloodspawn x1(2), Molag Kena x1(0), Eternal Hunt x5, Agility x3, VMSA 2H, VMSA Bow. Max hp/stam regen food. Serpent mundus.

Crit Rush, Blazing Shield, Executioner, Rally, Repentance, Crescent Sweep.

Poison Injection, Magnum Shot, Resolving Vigor, Restoring Focus, Purifying Ritual, Ice Comet.

=> More sustain for solo play. Get in with Crit Rush, while Blazing Shield is up, hit Executioner which still does moderate dmg above 50% and dodge roll out. Triggering Eternal Hunt’s bonus and immobiliizing them. Rince and repeat.

Solo orientated, sustained:

Bloodspawn x1, Molag Kena x1, Marksman’s Crest x5, Agility x3, VMSA 2H, VMSA Bow. Max hp/max stam food. Serpent mundus.

Meta bar.

=> Good sustain from Marksman’s Crest let’s you take food to increase dmg.

Sniper Solo(thinking outside of the box here to give an example):

Hawk’s Eye x5, Marksman’s Crest x5, VMSA 2H, VMSA Bow. Max hp/max stam food. Warrior mundus.

Lethal Arrow/Focused Aim, Poison Injection, Binding Javelin/Magnum Shot, Blazing Shield, Resolving Vigor, Flawless Dawnbreaker.

Beast Trap, Camouflaged Hunter, Rally, Elude, Purifying Ritual, Ice Comet.

=> Attack from stealth with buffs up and kite kite kite. Remember that Magnum Shot is a disorient and will break on dmg, even dot dmg from Poison Injection. As to Binding Javelin which is a stun and won’t break.

Archer Solo (cc focused):

Spawn of Mephala x2, Eternal Hunt/Marksman’s Crest x5, Agility x3, VMSA Bow, VMSA 2H. Max hp/stam regen food. Serpent mundus.

Lethal Arrow/Focused Aim, Poison Injection, Binding Javelin, Blazing Shield, Resolving Vigor, Flawless Dawnbreaker.

Beast Trap, Caltrops, Rally, Restoring Focus, Purifying Ritual, Ice Comet.

=> Channel HA’s for stamina and the snare. Caltrops to snare, Beast trap to immobiize. Lethal Arrow-Binding Javeling-Lethal Arrow for burst.

Archer Group:

Hawk’s Eye x5, Marksman’s Crest x5, VMSA 2H, VMSA Bow. Max hp/max stam food. Warrior mundus.

Arrow Barrage, Poison Injection, Binding Javelin, Blazing Shield, Resolving Vigor, Flawless Dawnbreaker.

Beast Trap, Caltrops, Rally, Elude, Purifying Ritual, Ice Comet.

=> More AoE focused for groups.

Critical Leech (remember that shields can’t be crit and alot of people are running Impen/Resistant CP :p):

Briarthorn x5, Hunding’s Rage x5, VMSA Dagger x2, VMSA 2H. Max hp/stam regen food. Serpent mundus.

Binding Javelin, Biting Jabs, Quick Cloak, Resolving Vigor, Repentance, Flawless Dawnbreaker.

Stampede, Executioner, Rally, Restoring Focus, Purifying Ritual, Crescent Sweep.

=> High burst spec if target is not running dmg shields.

Brawler:

Bloodspawn x1, Molag Kena x1, Marksman’s Crest x5, Agility S&B, Agility Necklace, Endurance Rings, Endurance 2H. Max hp/stam regen food. Serpent Mundus.

Shielded Assault, Blazing Shield, Pierce Armor, Defensive Stance (any morph), Repentance, Flawless Dawnbreaker.

Binding Javelin/Brawler, Resolving Vigor, Rally, Restoring Focus, Purifying Ritual, Crescent Sweep/Werewolf.

=> Shield stacking as stamplar makes you pretty tanky. Relies on LA/HA-Pierce Armor-Bash cancels for dmg. Nice build to go Werewolf in ^^

Hope this gives new players a starting point and experienced players some ideas to think outside the box. Remember metas can change :P
