Hey all! First build I’m posting.

Background

So, three beers into the day, I told myself “I want to DPS”. Usually this is no issue, as I’m running a NMG/Maelstrom stamplar build when I’m not tanking. But then, .25 beers later, I told myself “I want to power bash NPCs”. Obviously this meant I needed to go Sword an Board which is already notoriously limited in the DPS spectrum. Right on, no issue right? Well, as I was mulling around on my horse riding circles in Stormhaven thinking about what skills I would use, I finally told myself “I WANT TO BE THE HAIRIEST CHESTED ************* IN ALL OF TAMRIEL. FIVE HEAVY OR BUST.” I had clearly gone off my rocker…

The Vision

I didn’t want to be some DPS overlord pulling 50k parses and making youtube videos for the adoration of, well, a bunch of people watching youtube. No, that’s not what I wanted. I wanted to be a hairy chested beast charging into mobs with no fear and power slamming ****** back to the stone age, or the no magicka age, or whatever fits ESO lore for ancient time periods where people billy clubbed eachother with tree branches over some fruit bushes. I wanted to just beast my way into mobs, not care wtf the tank was doing or had taunted, start blowing stuff up, hit repentance and continue blowing stuff up – with a mace and a shield…

Decisions Must Be Made

I danced around with a lot of ideas. 5 Morkie, 5 Hunt Leader, 2 Kena was my go to, but then I realized I have no Hunt Leader neck piece so **** that **** and neither sets have any crit which might be painful. Then I danced around the idea of 5 Hundings, 5 Briar, 1 Kena, 1 Maelstrom. DEAD SET ON THIS. So I farmed one Orsinium World Boss, got a Ruby Ash Staff, and once again – **** that ****. Didn’t leave me with much options as I didn’t want to have an under utilized item slot (aka receiving no bonuses). After consulting some end game DPSers (read 1, casual player), I decided to go with the following:

The Build

Head – Molag Kena (Infused) Heavy
Shoulders – Molag Kena (Divines) Heavy
Chest – Hunding’s Rage (Infused) Heavy
Legs – Hunding’s Rage (Infused) Heavy
Hands – Hunding’s Rage (Divines) Medium
Waist – Hunding’s Rage (Divines) Medium
Feet- Hunding’s Rage (Divines) Heavy
Sword – Maelstrom Mace (Sharpened) **** SWORDS
Shield – Leki’s Shield (Infused)
Ring/Ring – Leki’s Ring (Wep Damage)
Neck – Leki’s Necklace (Stam cost reduction)
Bow – Maelstrom Bow (Sharpened)

After purchasing/crafting/enchanting 3-4 times due to improper glyph placement, or just straight up the wrong goddamn glyph and getting all set up, my stats ended up as such:

Unbuffed

And buffed

Time to Test!

I queue’d for a Random Veteran Dungeon. I then proceeded to take my dog for a walk, eat lunch, watch Family Feud and about 2/3rds of the way through the episode, the queue popped. Veteran City of Ash. Great. Trial by the Cataclysmic Flames of Gommorah. Especially with a bunch of V1-V8’s and a Sorceror Healer. This…will not go well, I told myself. More beer, I told myself. YOQO (you only queue once)…

Moment of Truth

Somehow, we make it to the Ash Titan with only one team wipe. This would be my first, true DPS test. I explained things to out 48khp tank spamming carve and let him know everything would be okay. In reality I was approaching 1 with certainty of a team wipe. My bars were set up as follows, anticipating a lot of boss movement, tank spamming carve, dead twilight, and dead V6 vampire stamblade:

Mace and Board

Low Slash (KEY SKILL)
Invasion (Interchangeable with Power Slam. Jabs if you just want to be like every other stamplar on the planet thus losing the soul of the build)
POTL of the Light (KEY SKILL)
Vigor (FLEX SKILL)
Blazing Shield (KEY SKILL)
Dawnbreaker of Smiting (FLEX with Radial Sweep)

Bow
Poison Injection (KEY SKILL)
Arrow Barrage (KEY SKILL)
Inner Fire (FLEX SKILL)
Channeled Focus (FLEX SKILL)
Purifying Ritual (FLEX SKILL)
Rememberance (FLEX SKILL)

And then all the sudden….DEAD ASH TITAN WTF WTFFFFFFFFFFFF. Went on to have a few wipes at Skoria (didn’t have enough deeps for Gold Key even though we had soul gem fueled repentances on demand from our very courageous and PMA cheerleader vamp stamblade).

The Performance Review

DPS
6/10

Average single target DPS fell in between 13-15k depending on if I flubbed the Kena —-> Barrage/PI/Dawnbreaker combo. Potentially could get higher if I adjust some champion points around but I have a tri build (mag/stam/health build on all the same toon) and thus attempt to flush out CPs to support each build appropriately – I would say a good 70% of my champ points are weighted towards stam, though. Good enough to, with minimal effort from another DPS, to make it through most 4 man content.

Survivability
7/10

It was awesome wading into mobs with blazing shield and power slam absolutely wrecking shop. While you are no min/maxed DPS that can just lay waste to everything in seconds provided you don’t get wrecking blowed, you also won’t be dying even if you got wrecking blowed – just get up and resume cooking whatever it is the NPCs are smelling. While you are no tank and can’t handle too much heat for too long, an even beginner level tank should know what to taunt leaving you with the trash. Or in the case of the Ash Titan, pull the boss off the tank and finish him off while he carves/kites/runs for his life from the whirliygig dudes.

Group Support
8/10

There is a tremendous amount of flexibility with this build. You can swap a lot of skills for a minimal loss of survivability, utility or DPS to help fulfill any gaps your 2 week old players have (i.e., all of them). Templars have an tremendous amount of utility that can buff the everloving **** out of the group, so I encourage you to move and change skills according to fights as well as team gaps.

Sustain
4/10

Going 5 heavy really, really hurts your sustain on top of the Kena proc. We can mitigate this to a degree by being Redguard master race, Maelstrom 1 Hander proc and by chugging potions right off cooldown. But, since we’re not tanks, we don’t care too much about maintain block juice. It does however make you one seriousy tanky SOB.

Fun Factor
10/10

Ultimately the reason why I’m sharing this build with you all. It’s an absolute blast to play, way different playstyle than any other I’ve put together and most importantly effective for the role I envisioned from the start. If you just wanted to roll a S&B warrior for RP reasons or for personal entertainment, this is it right here.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed putting it together. I have a bunch of other wonky builds I play around with (yeah, I’m the hardcore casual that Templar tanks hardmode SO in 5PC Ashen Grip because BREATHE FIRE) and am more than happy to share.
