Ward Sorc Tank/Healer Build

Hi everyone,

I’ve been playing ESO for a few months now (probably 6 or so) and have working on a build for my sorc. I am a PS4 player and I don’t get to play enough to really build multiple characters. I made my first character as a copy of my Skyrim character (as did probably many others) but I know from previous MMO experience that I don’t enjoy DPS very much. Instead I have focused on creating a character that could, with some equipment and skill changes, swap between a healer or tank.

I am currently VR15 now but will probably become VR16 tonight after I do my daily random dungeon so I will share both what I am running currently as well as what I am currently considering running for end-game gear. Please provide any feedback and suggestions for the build, though I will admit that a few things have become a pride/challenge factor now as some of my guildmates do not think it will be effective.

Tanking Set Up:

Class: Sorc          Race: Kajiit

Magicka – 32 (when I hit VR16)

Health – 10

Staminia – 12

Current Armor Load Out (gear is of mixed VR levels at this point, lowest being 8, highest being 14):

6 Piece Light / 1 Piece Heavy

Engine Guardian 2 piece set

Necropotence 2 piece set

Tava’s Favor 5 piece set

Willpower Jewerly 3 piece set (1 arcane, 2 robust)

Weapon/Skill Bars:

Front Bar:

Sword & Board

1. Hardened Ward

2. Lightning Flood (this is a flex spot, I have changed it out for Ball Lightning, Shattering Prison, or Bone Surge depending on the need)

3. Dampen Magicika

4. Inner Beast

5. Unstable Channfear (can also be switched out for Twilight Matriarch in the case where you run 3 DPS or if extra group healing support is needed)

Ult: Replenishing Barrier (I am going to be trying out the other morph of this starting tonight for a week to see how it compares)

Back Bar:

Resto Staff

1. Boundless Storm

2. Power Surge

3. Shuffle

4. Proximity Detonation (another flex spot, depending on the situation. I have put Ring of Protection here as well)

5. Unstable Channfear (can also be switched out for Twilight Matriarch in the case where you run 3 DPS or if extra group healing support is needed, also need it on both bars)

Ult: Overload

Overload Bar:

1. Crystal Frags

2. Mage’s Wrath

3. Velocious Curse

4. Hardened Ward

5. Unstable Channfear (can also be switched out for Twilight Matriarch in the case where you run 3 DPS or if extra group healing support is needed, also need it on both bars)

I currently run Purple Max Food (haven’t gotten my hands on a VR15 recipe yet though I think a guildie gave me one in the mail) but have also used regen in the past.

End-Game Gear Set Up Idea:

Option 1:

2 piece Engine Guardian

5 piece Tava’s Favor

2 piece Spell Power Cure

3 Piece Willpower OR Trinimac Jewelry

Option 2:

2 piece Engine Guardian

5 piece Lunar Bastion (using Jewerly for 3 pieces)

5 piece Tava’s Favor OR 3 piece Spell Power / 2 piece Willpower

So far the build has tanked through all of the main dungeons except for ICP and WGT, which I have not yet beaten. I haven’t been high level yet to seriously try tanking any Trials or VDSA but I hope to try VDSA this week if possible. I believe that with the new update the build will get stronger when Dampen Magic covers all damage and not just magic damage.

I will post the healing part of the build later on, just wanted some initial thoughts on the tank part of the build.

Thoughts please!
