How much to spend in Elemental Expert versus Thaumaturge

Someone posed this question in a post and I answered with a math heavy comment. It involved calculus and very messy equations. Someone responded to me and asked if I could break it down a bit more. I decided to instead find the answer with excel and make an easy to use chart. I will cover how I made this chart so any one interested can critique the method. I’ll also post a link to the excel file which can give you more flexibility to match your situation.

First the chart:

Each box contains how many points to put in Thaumaturge. The chart needs three things to use.

1. (Top Row) What percent damage do your dots do? You want to determine this without any investment in Thaumaturge. You can do this by pulling a dps parse and examining it with FTC. You want to add the percent damages that your dots do. So for a DK what percent damage combined was your burning ember, elemental blockade, etc.

2. (Left Column) How many champion points do you have to invest in the two? The percent of points you should put in Thaum changes with the total points you have to invest.

3. This assumes 100% of your damage is effected by Elemental Expert. If this is not the case then you need to use the excel file. For example, a stam DK can use the excel file to find out how much EE they need when only a percent of their dps is affected by EE and a certain percent by Thaum. I can’t make a nice chart with three variable unfortunately so you’ll need the excel file. Also for your parse test you will want 0 investment in both Thaum and EE.

*One last caveat, this is strictly based on how the champion point bonuses stack multiplicatively. How ZoS calculates other percentages together could affect the outcome.
