Might be worth prefacing with the fact I’m still relatively ‘new’ to the game (was in the PC early alpha, then didn’t actually get it till christmas on PS4 lol). I got one veteran character that I raced through the game min-maxing (to the best of my ability) according to a guide, but I can’t say I really understand a lot of build logic for the game or end game content and I’m not enjoying it so much. It just doesn’t feel like MY characters, if you get my meaning. I’m a much better hands on learner than armchair theorycrafter, but I just don’t have the ten years of experience I had in WoW where I can pull out and create silly novelty builds that are also horrifying genocide engines because I have extensive knowledge of the class. When it comes to ESO I don’t even know where to start building on my own. Since Dark Brotherhood still won’t be out on consoles for another half a month I thought I’d level an alt in the mean time and dedicate some time to really learning the game, but I’m sort of wrestling what to do with it. I’d ask you to be patient with me and my dumb questions as I try to figure it out. Thanks!
SO, I know Argonians aren’t exactly popular, but they’ve always been my favorite race in TES games and I don’t think I could compromise on playing one. No 2% bonus stamina or health can compete with nostalgia and aesthetics, lol! Considering the upcoming addition of poisons to the game as well I feel like that might make their racials a little more attractive. While fiddling around on my newly rolled Nightblade and looking at the skills I noticed that Siphoning skill line has a decent amount of ultimate generation, especially in conjunction with potions (and argonian racials also increase potion effectiveness!). Knowing that two of Werewolf’s big draw backs are the long wind up time on the ult and the weakness to poison, it seems kind of logical to me that an Argonian Nightblade with plenty of potions could seriously diminish the impact of those cons.
So my question/proposition is, can an Argonian Werewolf Nightblade Alchemist ‘work’? I’m under no delusion it would be ideal or a fully optimized DPS machine by any means, but if it can at least viably function and keep pace I’ll have considered it a win in my books. Like I said in my first paragraph, I did my first character strictly cookie-cutter and ended up with a lack of understanding the fundamentals, merely given a rotation to faceroll. While it works, I wanted to do something a little more personal and novel to play around and experiment with in the mean time. So it’s less of a ‘help me build this thing’ thread and more of a ‘can someone smarter than me tell me if this is a completely stupid non-viable idea so I don’t waste all my free time on something that’s never going to be salvageable no matter what I do?’ It’s something I’d like to experiment with, and I’ve got the time and resources to fiddle with it, but just not the oversight to know if it’ll be something that’s actually ever be playable to any degree when I hit the late game, or if I’ll be stuck with an awkward mess than can’t do anything effectively. While I’m fine with not being the best, I don’t want to sink the time and effort into something that simply can’t and never could get off the ground. It’d also be a huge burden to decide once I hit vet that I want to do something completely different after leveling something so specific.
I started out doing a pure stealthy build with a bow because I wanted to make a shadowscale, but quickly discovered I did not enjoy the fact that a gnat farting in my general direction would powderize my bones. While I like the bow aesthetic I’m just not having as much fun sneaking around and shooting things like I thought I would. Given that the month is rolling over I’ve got my 1500 subscription crowns to play around with and thus the idea of a werewolf build was born. I know vampire would be better for a ‘stealthy’ but they just don’t interest me as much, the drawbacks seem too harsh for me to find it appealing. (and I just don’t really like vampires, lol.) The Nightblade in question is still a mere level 15, and I’ve barely done anything quest wise, so still very early on with lots of breathing room for experimenting and changing skills up. That was sort of another reason I was looking at the crown store werewolf option, being able to play around with and level the skill line in the early game. I’ve been werewolf hunting with my veteran templar for a while, just because I wanted to do the quest for novelty’s sake and there’s no real drawback to being one as long as I don’t slot the ult, but I haven’t found one in weeks of searching every night all night, so forget about managing to get one of my lowbie alts to find one.
So, the TL;DR of this long, rambling post is ‘Should I attempt the Argonian Nightblade Werewolf Alchemist build for fun and learning or should I just be resigned to copy-catting others and fake it till I make it?’
Sorry again if my topic is confusing or my post seems incoherent or stupid, I’ve been playing on autopilot so far and don’t know anyone else that plays I can talk with semi-serious about it. Being on console I can’t even talk to other players in general chat, so I’ve been pretty much on my own besides lurking forums, many of which are so hilariously inactive or the information is so out of date it’s not usable (almost every single one of the Argonian builds I looked at were from 2014, ouch). This is the only site that seems to have consistently good information. I’m making an honest effort to ‘git gud’ or at least set myself on the path of becoming proficient on my own, but I’ve always had lots of questions with no answers, which has been an extremely frustrating experience. I finally broke down and made an account to ask my questions at the risk of looking like a moron, so I can at least move past the ‘stupid casual’ phase and get into actually playing the video game as intended. Thanks again for your patience.
