Upon the release of The elder scrolls online, many diehard bethesdian fans of the solo rpg play style of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim felt a little out of place. For many fans of the franchise, The Elder Scrolls series has always been about one player’s influence over a massive sandboxed world. Elder Scroll fans are used to being destined for greatness and outshining all the npcs in a vast and colorful world full of enticing plot lines, dangerous monsters, hidden dungeons, and secrets of power. Old players of the franchise were a bit underwhelmed with the idea of sharing such a world with other players. Matt Firor of Zenimax Online Studios stated “Subscription resonated with one half of the audience but not the other half. RPG players, Skyrim players, were just not used to that.”

What did you guys think when eso was first released? I felt I was all alone with my fear of community ruining the old elder scrolls feel. However, I was definitely wrong about that and I love the game now.
