I got a little tired of my usual “you can’t kill me – I can’t kill you” build and wanted to try something that is a lot of fun to play with decent DPS. This build is the result and I can vouch for its feasibility. It makes things like Grobul a complete walk in the park – even with a PUG. If you like to play the game “Rambo style” this build is for you.

Update 2016-06-13: Switched out Molten Whip for Heroic Slash. More DOTs are better than a spammable.

Update 2016-06-22: Minor updates for DB

Update 2016-07-02

Gear

  • 5 x Syvarras Scales (Replace with Leeching Plate if you got it)
  • 5 x Bahrahas Curse
  • 2 x Valkyn Skoria
  • Sword and Shield on both bars

Except for Valkyn Skoria, everything can be picked up for a few thousand gold at most well stocked guild traders. Replace Valkyn Skoria with two pieces of Alessias Bulwark if you do not have it.

Traits / Glyphs

  • Infused or Reinforced (prefer Infused). Stay with Reinforced on the shield
  • Health enchants to start with – upgrade to Prismatic as you make the money
  • Magicka Recovery on the Jewelry
  • Prefer Defending Trait on the sword as you will be a little low on Armour.

Mundus / Food

  • The Atronach
  • Health + Magicka Recovery Orsinum Food

Race

  • Dunmer or Altmer preferred, but can work with any
  • Vampirism is awesome for this build. Feed before you enter City of Ash. When not in City of Ash – stay at Stage 4

Champion Points

Blue:

  • Half into Elemental Expert, other half into Thaumaturge (Thaumaturge also increases Syvarra’s damage output)

Red

  • 50/50 into Hardened / Elemental Defender

Green

  • 50/50 into Arcanist/Magician
  • Put a little into Shadow Ward if you have sustain issues with blocking

Target Stats

  • Get to around 32K health (your armour is a little weaker than a normal tank, so you need to offset this with some additional health)
  • Rest in Magicka
  • You need to hit just around 2000 Magicka Recovery

Bar Setup

Boss Bar

  • Inner Rage – your one and only taunt (you do not need two)
  • Burning Embers – DOT and self heal, spam this when low on health
  • Flames of Oblivion – DOT
  • Volatile Armour – Procs Syvarras and keeps you alive
  • Heroic Slash – yet another DOT in our arsenal / Igneous Shield if you have trouble with bosses
  • Shooting Star (for the regen) or War horn

Trash Bar

  • Burning Talons – DOT. Keeps mobs under control (better than taunt for trash)
  • Draw Essence – your self heal for trash. Gets more powerful the more monsters are around. Practically free to cast. Spam this and don’t wait for the explosion if low on health.
  • Unrelenting Group – batch them and burn them!
  • Cinder Storm – DOT – more crowd control
  • Engulfing Flames – DOT
  • Dragonknight Standard

How to play This build

This build is based on very strong synergies between dragonknight DOT (which we have a lot of) and the gear. You will be pleased to know that:

  • Burning Talon, Heroic Slash, Cinder Storm, Engulfing Flames, Flames of Oblivision and Burning Embers can all trigger Skoria and Bahrahas
  • Every tick of the above can trigger Syvarres scales
  • … which can trigger Skoria/Bahrahas (which in turn, can trigger Syvarras and Bahrahas)
  • The DOT tick from Bahrahas curse can proc Skoria and Syvarras
  • Getting hit while buffed with Volatile Armour can set off Syvarras and start the chain reaction

With this in mind, here is how you fight trash mobs

  • Buff up with Volatile Armour and Flames of Oblivion
  • Place Cinder Storm on mobs and charge into the AoE area
  • Engulfing Flames to open up
  • Burning Talons and Chains to bunch up range attackers. Continue to apply burning talons and engulfing flames, use Draw Essence as needed to heal (you do NOT need a healer for dungeon trash anymore)
  • Watch the world burn as you proc meteors, poison and deadric runes non stop
  • Kill off any stragglers with Burning Embers

For questing, just run straight towards your quest marker, ignoring all chasing monsters – turn around when you have 10-20 mobs and apply the above.

For bosses:

  • Maintain Volatile Armor and Flames of Oblivion at all times
  • Use Burning Embers for self heals
  • Make sure Bahrahas is up at all times for that constant 1K heal – note that you can proc Bahrahas with a shield bash
  • When the window of opportunity is there, switch to trash bar and apply all DOT (do not weave, as you need to get back to your boss bar fast)
  • Block and spam igneous shield as needed to stay alive (you have the magicka recovery to do so)
