are there any benefits to going sword and board with a DD stam NB

So this question is probably too low level really for most of the discussion on this page. But I thought I’d ask anyway because I’m sure someone’s been there and done it. I guess I should say in advance that I’m asking my question in terms of general knock-about pve.

I’ve started leveling up my second go at a stam NB (orc). It’s been going really well. Much easier and better than first time round. I’ve no real vet build in mind at this stage – just pretty much leveling up all class skills, DW and bow and 2H. First time round I was a big fan of the 2H. This time round I’ve been concentrating on DW, steel tornado and class skills. For some reason I’ve started enjoying it more. It’s like mmrowf (sorry I can’t remember your sig) wrote on a different thread that it seems silly sneaking with a whopping great two handed sword held out in front of you.

Which got me thinking- as a 3rd weapon skill – how far behind is the one hand and shield to 2H? Is this something that I just shouldn’t even think about unless I was contemplating tanking?

Damage wise, I get it – 2H gives almost 50 percent bigger damage than one hand and shield in most of its skills

But my current play style is getting its damage from the class skills right now – and I was thinking about 1H and S for the other benefits- increased armour from the shield, extra craft set slot. Also to my naive eyes, some of the weapon skills seem like they might work well with a NB playstyle – Absorb Magicka and Deep Slash seem like they’d definitely complement it. I admit the aggro from ransack isn’t exactly welcome – but would its major fracture stack with surprise attack?

My first stam NB build I never dared take brawler and executioner off my bar. This time I haven’t touched them. Maybe my playing skills are better, I don’t know, but I’m getting everything I need from class skills – damage, healing, etc so  feel a little braver about my weapon skill choices.

The thing is, I’ve never read anyone on this forum recommend it – save for tanking. So, I’d imagine there’s a reason for that? Would exploring 1h and S be completely stupid ? Or just fairly stupid?
