Not sure if this belongs here or in the Cyrodiil section – or even simple questions section. But it’s NB build related, so I’ll try here. Please let me know if you’d like me to post somewhere else.
I’ve been trying out pvp in the non-vet campaign to see if I like it. I’m level 49. So, I am as high-levelled as anyone else there. I’ve built a stam NB following as many of the tips on here as possible. What I’ve been finding is that my main dam skills, ambush, surprise attack do roughly 2-2.5k damage. If I’m cloaked and attack I can crit them (2.5-2.8K). Bow skills, poison injection and bombard do about 1.6k to 2k. Sometimes I do alot less damage and I’m guessing that’s because the other player has some kind of shield up. The best I can get out of the ultimates is 3 -3.5 k. I’ve been able to get killing blade to crit for 6k (but that’s the finisher and not standard initial damage opener)
I’m wearing night’s silence and ashen grip to get the crit and damage bonuses (don’t have enough research for hundings). I use the warrior mundus stone.
My weapons are standard for the level – yew bow, ebony sword and mace.
I’m all stam with my abilities. My skills are all morphed for the stam morphs. Like I said, I’ve followed the basic non-vet set up for a stam NB. I’m wearing 1 piece of heavy (chest), 1 piece of light (belt) and the rest is medium. I’ve taken the medium armour and class passives that improve crit chances. And a couple of the other decent passives (can’t remember them now) – but I’ve a limited number of skill points so I haven’t been able to fill up the pool yet.
I’ve not been running siphoning strikes-so that’s not reducing damage.
So, my damage is in the region of 2-2.5 k standard. I’ve been getting wrecked and I was looking at the battle log to see what’s been hitting me and if there’s anything I can do about it…am I playing poorly, should I have dodged or countered..or something. So apart from the times when I’ve just been facerolled by a gang bang, I find that some of the other players are dealing serious damage. I’ve been being hit by overload light attacks for 10k – repeatedly – by 2 separate sorcs, so it’s not just some wild one off crit. I know it’s an ultimate – but my ultimate only hits for 3k ? What’s with that?
I had a templar hitting me with puncturing strikes – unmorphed – for a total of 4 x 1k. That’s 4k a strike, well beyond my surprise attack critting at 2.5 to 2.8k
I’m puzzled by this. The disparity in damage is pretty huge. I mean, I’m being hit for a 100 percent more than I can hit back and I’m wondering what’s going on. This is non- vet Cyrodil, Blackwater. I don’t have a lot of experience with the game. I don’t expect my NB to rule. I know my best tactic is make use of sneak attack, fear and cloak. But I’m wondering, after I’ve been following the guides I’ve been reading here, how they can be hitting me with SO much more damage. The NB is referred to on many forums as a good damage dealer. But those sorcs and templars seem way better – well the sorcs were 3 times better and the templar 2 times…. To be honest, it takes the fun out of it, when the other player has such an advantage. It’s not about tactics so much as automatcially being smacked down (especially as the cloak doens’t cloak very often).
Is puncturing strikes really so much better than surprise attack? And is overload truly so overpowered compared to the NB ultimates?
