So, I was thinking about the eventual removal of VR levels and what will happen to gear. So, here is my idea.
Just make the gear’s “Level” 50, and then add a new attribute called “Item Power” and make it 1-16 (a direct synonym to VR level).
VR 8 gear becomes “Level 50, IP 8″
VR 16 gear becomes “Level 50, IP 16″
Stats don’t change.
Crafting doesn’t change. Silverweave (for example) still creates a “Level 50, IP 7-8″ light armor, while Void Cloth still creates an “Level 50, IP 11-14″ light armor, etc.
Just as ZoS has added Ancestor Silk as a special new ingredient to make VR15-16 gear (which would now make Level 50, IP 15-16 gear), they can keep adding new materials whenever they want to introduce a new “Item Power” to the game with new content/DLCs.
TL;DR
Create a new item stat “Item Power” and make it = old VR level. Done.
