Masel’s Elemental Fury – PvE DPS DK Build (1T Ready)

The Goal of this Build is to provide strong DPS on a Dragonknight while using shock and fire damage and Heavy Attacks with a Lightning Staff. I’ve tried several builds that use lightning staff heavy attacks on a DK, and while they are very survivable, sustainable and very easy to play, the single target DPS mostly suffered and I’ve never managed to get past the 30k sustained sinlge target DPS parse (selfbuffed). This build does exactly that while using only AoE skills, and in the right hands and raid setup, it can surpass 40k Single target DPS easily. The issue for me is that in trials, I get 20 FPS tops and I would like to see people from decent raids using this. Can’t wait for DPS dummies, so even people with laggy pc performance can post representative parses. Besides that, I’ve had a breeze in vDSA and every vet trial with this. This build is flexible to the extent that you can do both a Melee or Ranged Version, depending on what you are assigned to within your group or what the dungeon or fight requires you to do.

Gear:

To understand the nature of heavy attacks, it is important to know that the Flat Damage Buffs of the Undaunted Infiltrator and Infallible Aether buff every tick of channelled heavy attacks, and the undaunted infiltrator buff remains on for 10 seconds when switching the bar, which is the difference between this build and most other Heavy Attack based DPS builds. What is even more important: it enables us to use Illambris to get the DPS up by even more. So in order to keep the Buff up, all you need to do is to cast a Magicka based skill on your back every 10 seconds. Most builds swap bars every few seconds anyway, so this is easy to achieve.

Replacements for the gear:

Undaunted infiltrator:

This is a must have. Undaunted unweaver is possible as well, but gives less magicka than undaunted infiltrator and requires you to use a stamina based ability every ten seconds.

Aether:

This is a must have as well, only replacement with a dps loss is elegance.

Illambris:

As of update 13, we will need to adjust builds based on proc sets due to the loss of their synergy with warhorn and crit in general, so you can experiment with the different monster sets. Due to the heavy attack synergy, you can use maw of the infernal for fun, because let’s face it, it looks cool, but doesn’t provide that strong dps. Grothdarr is awesome in melee range, but illambris synergizes with the shock and fire while doing strong dps, so it’s ideal. I will experiment on the PTS with the different sets. Using one Kena one iceheart would be acceptable. Slimecraw can be interesting after next update too.

The Ranged Bars
Main Bar (Lightning Staff): Dampen Magic (FLEX SPOT), Molten Armaments, Elemental Blockade, Stalwart Guard, Inner Light, Shooting Star/Thunderous Rage/Standard of Might

Back Bar (Dual Wield): Dampen Magic (FLEX SPOT), Eruption, Engulfing Flames, Stalwart Guard, Inner Light, Shooting Star

You can put all you want on the flex spots, I like to have a shield ready on the main bar and chains on the back bar to help chain in adds, but you could also put mages guild skills there to get additional max magicka.
Melee Bars
Main Bar (Lightning Staff): Dampen Magic (FLEX SPOT), Flame Lash, Elemental Blockade, Stalwart Guard, Inner Light, Shooting Star

Back Bar (Dual Wield): Molten Armaments, Eruption, Burning Embers, Stalwart Guard, Inner Light, Standard of Might

You can put all you want on the flex spots, I like to have a shield ready on the main bar and chains on the back bar to help chain in adds, but you could also put mages guild skills there to get additional max magicka. In melee range, use Standard of Might, as it is the most powerful DPS-Ultimate right now. Only use flame lash when the opponent is off-balance and ONLY use it in between your three heavy attacks. You can weave in light DW attacks while on your back bar to activate your SD/Crusher glyphs.
Lets go through possible skills you could put on the flex spots:

Dampen Magic: Strong shield, your emergency button i case you don’t trust your group enough to go without shield.

Harness Magicka: Weaker than Dampen Magic, but helpful when you get a lot of elemental damage in.

Unrelenting Grip: In any case you have a non-dk tank (without swarmmother) or just have a lot of ranged trash to chain in.

Elemental Drain: In case the healer doesn’t run it, you can put this on your front bar.

Scalding rune: Procs Illambris’ fire version, but is not as good as eruption.

Dragonscales: Cool when you have a lot of ranged things that can’t all be taunted by your tank.

CP Setup
You can experiment with the damage-cps, as your dots are effected by thaumaturge, elfborn and elemental expert, while your heavy atatcks benefit from those three AND staff expert. You can also put 75 into thaumaturge to use the exploiter passive, i still have to test whether this is better than the current setup that I use.
Rotation:

The Rotation is as easy as effective: Find someone to guard, Magicka DDs like the free minor force.

Molten Armaments > Bar Swap > Eruption (18s, and 10s UI buff) > Bar swap > Elemental Blockade > Three fully charged heavy attacks (fit exactly to the duration of Blockade) > Bar swap > Engulfing flames > Bar swap > Elemental Blockade > Three fully charged heavy attacks > start at Eruption.

Due to the 39s duration of Molten Armaments, you only need to recast it every two full rotation cycles.

Throw in your Ultimate (Meteor/Thunderous Rage/Standard of Might) whenever it is ready. You can keep your finger on your left mouse button all the time, no need to even lift it up in fights.

Eruption, meteor and engulfing flames proc the fire version of Illambris, while your heavies, thunderous rage and blockade proc the lightning version, so you get a great uptime on both, especially with a few adds to bosses around.

Parses:

I did some world bosses with a friend of mine, and here are the results, he used inner fire, so its only selfbuffed:

Planar Inhibitor in vWGT:

Ra Kotu in vHRC(includes a lot of resses):

Warrior in vHRC (includes one death, resses and starburst phase):

Keep in mind that every single ability and attack is full aoe here, and that i suck at remembering rotations and screwed them up quite often here. Also, i used two purple unique precise undaunted infiltrator swords for tests, so for the time on my back bar, i lose a lot on damage ticks of the ground dots. Therefore, the single target dps will be higher with golden sharpened swords. And on top of that, the minor slayer biff doesn’t apply to overland bosses, so you can add another 5% damage on top.

An issue that thus build has is blockcasting. E.g. In vHRC, I usually have 39k dps until the starburst phase kicks in, and you can’t blockcast heavy attacks, so the dmg drops significantly when you can’t channel. Same holds for the ground atronach in vAA.

If you want to try it out, I recommend farming the lamia boss with the pet snake (slikhlenia or something) in arx corinium for sweetsong, a unique precise sword of the undaunted infiltrator, then farming the first boss for legs and a unique necklace and then going for a ring of the set in chests.

Big shoutout to @alanarre for the very informative Shockknight Build Thread and @unthought for the idea with the undaunted infiltrator set!

The build is still in development, so any advice in how to improve it further (while staying outside the box please, I know what is BiS on mag dks) is welcome! I will update it continously.

No "Content-DLCs" announced yet – will we see a huge expansion in 2017?

Important notice: none of the things I mentioned here are announced yet. Everything found here is based on guesstimations.

All of you know that Zenimax didn’t announce any new DLC for 2017 yet. They only talked about Homestead as a nice addition to the game but it won’t be actual content.

The last time they added some real content to the game was when Dark Brotherhood came out months ago. I don’t really count Shadow of the Hist as content because it only brought us two new dungeons and nothing besides that.

I know Zenimax showed us pretty much stuff in 2015 like Mephala’s Realm, Murkmire etc. but we haven’t heard anything about it again since they gave us the video material more than a year ago.

Vvardenfell was datamined half a year ago (look here: http://tamrielfoundry.com/2016/05/datamining-vvardenfell/ ) – an interesting point mentioned there is:

Three Player Houses in Vvardenfell

Another obvious indicator as to why a major update or two will come before Vvardenfell is the existence of three specific player housing options within Vvardenfell. This in and of itself is an exciting discovery as it means there will most likely be multiple housing opportunities per zone! If you have a favorite area of Tamriel, you can live there. Getting back to the point at hand, you can’t really have housing areas in the zone if you haven’t introduced and fully released housing yet. One thing is for sure though, you’ll get the chance to live on Vvardenfell Island if you choose.

What if Vvardenfell won’t be a new DLC but a huge expansion like addition to ESO? I’m speaking of a ~ $29 expansion that must be bought by everybody, even by ESO+ players.

Vvardenfell seems to be twice as huge as a normal zone. That’s at least the size a new expansion needs to have for being more than a simple DLC.  Maybe they’re even giving us more features, like a new class (that would be awesome!), new weapons or the long awaited Spellcrafting.

The thing that made me think we will see rather and expansion than a simple DLC is the following sentence from Matt Firor:

After that? Well, you’re going to have to wait a bit, but trust me, the wait will be worth it. We’ll talk a lot more about the amazing new things that are coming to ESO as early as we can in the new year.

TL;DR:

“Vvardenfell”

1st Expansion for Elder Scrolls Online coming in 2017

Price: $29 (must buy if you want to play it, even for ESO+ members)

Release date: Q2/Q3 2017 (I’d say July ’17)

– New and exclusive story content with a new threat

– Level increase to 60

Tell me: what do you think? What do you expect from an expansion, what would you like to see?

The Velocious Vyper – Heavy Attack Magic Sorc (Update 12)

$

Background – This build was designed pre-one tamriel after hearing about the Heavy Attack Mag DK and Sorc setup in game. Having then seen NOS’s No Spammable here and a few in game friends trying different variations that had been heard around Tamriel, etc. the Heavy Attack concept seemed unique, but definitely workable and I was determined to make a BiS version.

Originally I believe the concept of the HA build on a mag sorc was because of their low performance in trials compared to other classes in update 10-11 and then having a build keep 100% aether up-time in trials makes for a huge group DPS increase, also freeing up another gear option for a healer/s.

Once One Tamriel (Update 12) dropped and Illambris became an absolute must, this build evolved into a very unique gear setup (see below).

I’ve been playing a Sorcerer Tank since Xbox release and decided to add a DPS option by obtaining a variety of gear, testing CP, rotations, etc, so I could also DPS on the same toon if required. I’ve only told a few people about this build in game and wanted to get it posted, especially after having positive discussions with NOS about it. Enjoy!

Race – High Elf, next would be Dark Elf for this particular build.

Mundus – Thief (only) as we are no longer running TBS due to Illambris taking up 2 slots.

Attributes – All into Magicka

Food – Max Health, Max Magicka (bi-stat)

CP –
- 83 Elemental Expert
– 3 Staff Expert
- 26 Elfborn
- 75 Thaum (Tested with and without the exploiter passive and honestly it’s just too nice.)

Green tree, max out reduced cost, followed by 30 into tumbling and 57 into tenacity. We don’t add points to regen as our regen is just too low anyway and because our rotation includes 2 x heavy attacks, the tenacity points are really nice and creates an active rotation regen. Tumbling points, just because sometimes we need to dodge roll.

Red Tree is really trials dependent, in VMoL we would be in Ele Defender and Spell Shield, in VSO we split and put a lot in thick skin and hardy. Really depends on the content, but you can even split and I always put 30 in Bastion for the resurrection passives.

Gear – 5 / 1 / 1

3 x Willpower Arcane Jewellery with Spell Damage Enchants (keep a healthy in your inventory in case you don’t have ebon).

2 x Illambris Divines (1H and 1M)

5 x Infallible Aether Divines body pieces (Jerkin only, as we don’t gold out dresses).

1 x Maelstrom Lightning Staff Sharpened on the front bar

1 x Master Inferno Staff Sharpened on the back bar (for the buff to destructive clench and max magicka)

As you can see, we have 5 different set bonuses here (1 x 5 Piece, 1 x 2 piece, 1 x 3 piece and 2 x 1 Piece).

All max magicka enchants on gear.

Bar Setup -

We slot Stalwart Guard instead of Bound Aegis, for the crit damage. It acts as a replacement for the loss of the shadow from not wearing TBS, guards a fellow group member, applies force to their build (a sorc would be perfect) and our max magicka pool is still super high without bound aegis. I prefer the Thunderous Rage ULT as opposed to the fire, based on extended duration, sorc and high elf passives incl. disintegrate. Therefore I do front bar Destruction Ult and back bar shooting star for the max magicka passive on bar swap.

A few other options here is to simply run bound aegis instead of Stalwart guard, and also take inner light off the back and slot power surge for the heals. I have found the above setup to output the most damage, but this comes down to comfort of the class and how good your group is. In 4 man content if I’m running with randoms, I would simply slot power surge and bound aegis and have inner light only on the front bar. You could arguably slot bound aegis instead of inner light with stalwart guard for the extra spell damage and 1% max, but I keep inner light there for when I swap power surge in and out, also to empower our initial heavy attack (crystal frag testing to come).

Potions – Essence of Spell Power (no crit reagent required, if bars set as above and inner light is slotted).

Rotation –

Velocious Curse > Inner Light > Bar Swap > Fully Charged Heavy Attack > Liquid Lightning > LA > Destructive Clench > Bar Swap > LA > Wall Of Elements > LA > Velocious Curse > Thunderous Rage > Full Charged Heavy Attack > Crystal Frag [ONLY ON PROC] < Full Charged Heavy Attack > Velocious Curse > Bar Swap > LA > Liquid Lightning > Continue…

Having 2 active skills on our front bar allows for a large chance to proc our crystal frag. If you do not proc a crystal frag, simply do not throw it, and only throw the frag in the middle of the 2 heavy attacks. The main reason for the crystal frag is for the minor prophecy self and group buff when using a dark magic ability (from the sorcerer passives), it is also really nice burst when the frag hits and Velocious Curse expires. However with the timing of the rotation being quite rigid, we do only throw the frag in the middle of the 2 heavy attacks (there is enough time to proc a frag on our last curse and still throw an instant cast by the time we get back to it).

Character Sheet (buffed) –

DPS

According to the bloodspawn test (as we don’t have any parse sheets on xbox) this build is pulling 37k single target DPS with no raid buffs. Yet the most amazing thing is that every ability except the crystal frag is AOE damage, so expect a huge parse in AOE fights (most in game fights are AOE).

Our tank here is using a crusher and buffing me with igneous weapons.

Hope you enjoyed the build, it is my first so please leave some comments/feedback. If I have missed anything let me know!

I will be doing more testing on this and keep it updated.

Gold Man Meta is a growing trading guild on the Xbox One NA server. We currently have a trader in Elden Root and are asking only 5k for trader access. Elden Root is a premium trader location, so this represents a great opportunity for new traders or for experienced traders to expand their footprint.

The focus of Gold Man Meta is trading so new members should be looking primarily for trader access. We do have an association with Old Man Meta which combines trading and more social activities (group events, trials etc.) Old Man Meta is currently at max membership, but will be looking to Gold Man Meta members to fill future roster spots.

If you’re interested in joining, respond with your Xbox gamertag and I’ll make sure you get a invite. After joining, deposit 5k in the guild bank and you will be upgraded to trader status.

Dual Sworded Moon knight mDK PVE Dps build

BEWARE the gear listed is Endgame and very hard to obtain.

This build is not b.i.s for solo purposes.

Build posted from phone.

In this build im trying to theorycraft a mag dk that uses 2 swords as mainbar, im aiming for players critisicm and advise to make this build really potent and even competitive,

Weapon enchants have been buffed, therefore i believe weaving enchants while dual wielding may be effective if not more effective than weaving a staff,

As we may know weaving whip with a staff on dk is ass right now but with dual wield its very easy.

Race.

Dunmer (all passives benefit this race even the dual wield)

Altmer 2nd

Breton 3rd.

Mundus.

Theif

Shadow (if using t.b.s)

GEAR 5x1x1

All divines and enchanted magicka

5x moondancer (3 gold jewels, 2 sword sharpened)

Swords enchanted with (increase wpn,  spell dmg, flame or prismatic onslaught)

5x spellweave (twiceborn star jullianos)

2x Grothdar (heavy helm medium shoulder) for max phys resistance optimization.

1x (maelstorm inferno staff Sharpened (charged, precise , infused

BARS.

DW.

1. Molten whip

2. Burning embers

3. Engulfing flame

4. Scalding rune ( aoe dot, max mag increase , cost reduction, empower)

5. Inner light

Ult. Shooting star

STAFF.

1. Wall of elements

2. Eruption

3. Rearming trap

4. Molten arnaments

5. Flames of oblivion.

Ulti. Fiery rage for trash (standard of might for boss)

Rotation. ( to be discussed)

Faq. (To be discussed)

Please send feed back

Currently my swords are

1x nirnhoned 1 x sharpened,

I beleive this has more potential with our certain build since our spell damage is further buffed by 20 % molten arnaments and since our crit is not multiplied by any buffs,

Therefore ive come to the conclusion for builds proccing more spell damage i.e shadow boon from moondancer + spell weave + nirnhoned main hand, + major and minorrsorcery, brutality buffs makes the scale tide from leaning towards max dps

Max wpn /spell dmg > max crit rating (spell or wpn)

If someone can provide the maths this would be very helpful. Thanks again to community thoughts contribution to the build no hard or soft feelings for criticism.

The Defiler – NB PVP – Tips, Tricks, Ideas

Here’s an idea for an Argonian magicka heavy armor Nightshade, known as The Defiler. Still got many things to consider still and gear to farm. Looking for some tips and ideas even criticism as I assume this has been done before.

The base of the build is 2 pieces Malubeth and 5 pieces leeching plate for life stealing. Also 5 pieces duroks bane. As you take dmg you reduce enemies healing while stealing life from them. Argonian provides 3% magicka and 9% health as well as the 12% recovery of all stats when drinking potions with the 20 ult gain on top of it, plus siphoning strikes and we have great resource management.

Befoul champion boosts the healing reduction caused by duroks. I still need to go over the rest of the champion trees and look for more that add to healing received plus other synergies. The argonian passive and leeching plate already provides +13% to healing received.

Got to have 1h shield or dw in order to run 5/5/2 sets. Maybe 1h shield and destro. Not certain on bar setup yet, I want to have the skills fit in as close to the defiler theme as possible. Mass hysteria is going to be used for CC, siphoning strikes, debilitate or other morph, blood funnel (the slotted healing receive bonus one), some defensive skills, soul tether, maybe destro ult, for example. Let me know what ya think!

I did see your post. In the early days on this forum (pre-launch) I had envisioned a similar RvRvR system to Gw2 in terms of command and control.

As most know in Gw2 WvW they operated a commander system, with the idea to give orders and control the masses. The system works well with realm/server tournaments. As the desire to win as a collective effects rewards, pride and the competitive nature of people.

As such, as part of a small roaming PvP guild, I could activate the commander tag and use moderate battlefield strategy. I had an actual guardian phalanx and elementalists and archers providing heals, control, buffs and support. Warriors flanked with speed and we rarely lost. Good times, but marred slightly by the small forts and maps (which made things a little too predictable and utlimately – just became a zerg. Nobody wanted to fight us. Which was boring.

Point being that in that mindset, rolls like yours make sense. Which may escape the perception of other folks here. I mean I get their angles too, they want to contribute both personally, or in a group (depending on play preference) and things are simply too… broken or limited in ESO.. to function in any other way than you suggest. They just want kills, fast and easy.

In MMO’s with such basic combat, the idea that damage kills – speed merely positions – is half true. Animation cancelling kills, as speed compliments damage, rather than replaces it.

In a real fight however, as a female who likes HEMA and various other martial arts, its different. Speed is why Wing Chun can cripple karate or other hard strength base combat styles. Power alone, can be out controlled and redirected as part of speed.

In warfare, power can be turned into a disadvantage.

Is that so in ESO? Well, if things were well built it should be. The point I often make when I chat with Nick/Lefty is that ESO have ruined the PvP experience by failing to lock in limitations to characters and combat.

Tanks should not be as mobile as DPS, nor outputting that damage. DPS should have burst and agility but not sustain. These core tenets were the bedrock of the Trinity and one of the ways MMO’s stepped closer towards balance. They should never have thought ‘we can do away with the past’, but rather try and expand upon it and modernise it.

Its from that basis I would claim that PvP in ESO is entirely broken. It needs an overhaul to restore what was, with the caveat of keeping the improvements that have been made, underneath.

I see a lot of DragonKnight Builds for VMA, but still don’t know if Magicka or Stamina is the most efficient when not using good Gear and Maelstrom Weapons.

I won’t pvp until CP 561 because of the big disadvantage so from low level to CP and 561 i’ll focus on PVE, which one would be best ? (I like both Magicka and Stamina DragonKnight)

Since i plan to play both, i’m looking for the one that will be easier for me to farm gear for both Stamina and Magicka.

A Thorne In The Lion’s Paw.

Hearthfire, 2E 583.

Peace is ever short lived; a brief repose between the spells of conflict, and the bouts of strife. For five fleeting years, there has been a quietude in Tamriel; the people gladly, and willingly oblivious to the presence of a loathsome, villainous few. With the death of Baron Strucier at the hands of the Imperial Empire – at least that was how it was recorded – the Righteous Army of Ysgramor, a name foul and unbefitting of their damnable goal, all but disappeared into the shadows. Baroness Cynthia eluded the Empire, and others whom were tasked with her capture, and continues to do so.

During such distractions, others have attempted to deal a swift blow at the turned backs of their enemies, though mostly with disappointing outcomes. Others proved more dangerous. The Aldmeri Dominion, believing themselves somewhat responsible, attempts to hide the attempts of said organisation, though with increasing lack of success. The Veiled Heritance, or at least a splinter group, or perhaps another group entirely merely made in homage, have proven quite capable, and quite difficult. Given the Heritance’s origins in the Dominion, Ayrenn has attempted to shield the other provinces from their attacks, as well as avoid the spreading of knowledge regarding them; though doing so without raising suspicion is becoming more dangerous as time passes, and as the Heritance grows more bold in its acts.

Amidst this hidden chaos, a seemingly unimportant event arises, though with yet untold consequences. Southpoint; a small port town in Southern Valenwood, has found itself under new leadership – Lycidas Blackthorne; the Lord of House Blackthorne, and a Breton of apparent respect in Grahtwood. Though imaginably harmless, the presence of Breton leadership in Valenwood would be an affront to many; though for various reasons yet to be revealed. On the 15th day of Hearthfire, Lycidas Blackthorne’s coronation to become Mayor of Southpoint shall be a public spectacle, as well as a day of judgement.

The transitory peace is ending, as such supposedly trivial concerns become the burdens of many.

To avoid a thousand little threads that can be resolved with one post and source link, let’s just throw every question might you have in this thread and keep the forums clean for actual dicussions.

How to use this thread:

 1. Try Google, Tamriel Foundry’s search function or have a look at our Development FAQ before you ask a question. Check the frequently asked questions further down as well. Otherwise we’ll have to answer the same question every other page.
 2. Answer other people’s question only if you you know the answer. Wrong or unclear answers will be removed. Try to provide a source.
 3. This is not a thread for discussion or smalltalk. Anything that isn’t a question, an answer or the opening post will be removed.

Kindling power – the Whips ‘n’ chains rebirth

Welcome to my build-thread for the Magicka DK in One Tamriel. This build is, for all intents and purposes, for PvE only and will aim to keep Magicka DKs at their current, highly esteemed level. The gap between magicka and stamina is closing slightly with the impending vMA DW nerf, so I believe we’ll really be close to being on par with our stamina counterparts whilst still providing great utility to the group.

This build is largely based on @IWM’s Magicka DK build, but with my own opinions and testing for this new DLC. I’ll be trying to minimize the grind for gear, whilst putting in my opinions on several different setups, tell you why they may or may not work aswell as listing my preferred and basic setups.

Enjoy!

Character sheet

These are my stats with only buff-food, Inner Light and Minor Slayer active. I’m using the same gear as stated in my BiS Powerhouse section minus a Moondancer Staff. This means Spell DMG should be slightly less unbuffed, but significantly higher while buffed.

Gear

The “I’m not CP160 yet!”- Setup

Perfect for leveling. Magicka Furnace gives alot of magicka aswell as resistances and Torug’s gives Spell DMG and health so it’s the perfect combo. Skills are mostly the same, but if you’re solo leveling you might wanna consider some more self-heals such as inhale, rapid regen and/or healing ward.

The Best-in-Slot Powerhouse

Divines on all 7 pieces is extremely important. You also want 5 Light, 1 Medium, 1 Heavy for the Undaunted passives.

Burning Spellweave got a significant buff in One Tamriel, and with this in mind, it will outparse TBS at 50% Major Force uptime or less. Given this high Major Force uptime is very difficult to get even in a raid, I will consider it the BiS option for this DLC. As soon as you get higher uptime, TBS will be the better option. The effectiveness of Burning Spellweave increases the lower Major Force uptime you have.

Optional Gearsetups

Twice-Born star is only viable in a group where Aggressive War-Horn is at 60% uptime or higher. If you are in a good raidgroup, use TBS for any trial. Julianos will still outperform TBS when there is a lack of WH. Additionally, TBS will benefit you alot especially while progressing in raiding. If you’re still learning mechanics, I would value TBS higher than any other 5pc gear. For example, I will run BSW for any vet trial except vMoL Hard Mode. Here, the health is just too valuable. In any other trial, you can easily go for BSW and still survive fine. Shields are still important though.

Mother’s Sorrow is a very interesting gearset. Unfortunately it requires more of your group than TBS does and thus I don’t see it as a good enough set to outshine TBS in end-game raiding. If you want an explanation and propably a more suited setup for using it, have a look here.

Silks of the Sun is also a viable way to go. You can mix and match how you please with this set, but ultimately it will fall slightly behind Burning Spellweave and even further behind TBS. For those of you who have bought it and don’t care about max DPS, feel free to run it.

Skills

These are my skills in most instances. I’ll go into more detail below.

Main-bar

 1. Molten Whip – Your main spammable. It gains a huge increase in damage from your Standard aswell as your Ardent Flame passives, so it really hits like a truck.
 2. Engulfing Flames – A nice DoT which buffs all of our fire attacks. Since 99% of our damage is fire, I’d say it’s a good idea to slot EF.
 3. Burning Embers – Also a nice DoT, but this one adds alittle healing to the mix aswell – even moreso in Thieves Guild. The damage coupled with the healing makes it a perfect DoT in our arsenal
 4. Entropy – This is really a fillerslot, but I’ve decided to put Entropy there because it’s a nice skill to have for 4man content. It grants 2% extra Max Magicka through Mages Guild passives, gives 5% Max Health aswell as gives us an opportunity to get Major Sorcery outside of potions, which is a gold save. For trials, I’ll slot Force Pulse in it’s place given you need to be able to output some ranged damage for alot of situations.
 5. Inner Light – the unbeatable Max Magicka + Spell Crit slot. A must-have for all magicka builds! Our source for a constant Major Prophecy as well as +7% Max Magicka.
 6. ULTIMATE: Shooting Star – This ultimate is more for the passive 2% extra Max Magicka than anything, but it’s a very nice ultimate for trash-packs and such. We rarely use it, but the extra magicka it gives is very nice.

Off-bar

 1. Eruption – An incredibly strong ground-DoT which lasts quite a while aswell. Place it where the boss will stay and watch it tick!
 2. Rearming Trap – Our source of Minor Force. You only need to pop it once every other rotation, but make sure to reapply it once your Minor Force runs out. It adds a crapton of DPS.
 3. Flames of Oblivion – With the changes in TG to this skill and it’s morphs, the choice of morph is obvious. We’re not healers, we’re DDs so we choose what’ll net us the most damage! I’ve had this bad-boy tick for 23k a pop so it’s definitely not worth trashing just yet.
 4. Elemental Blockade – With my testing, I couldn’t justify choosing Unstable Wall of Elements simply for it’s explosion. Therefore, I have chosen Elemental Blockade as my morph. It has a longer duration, so in my testing it ended up helping my rotation more than the extra explosion from UWoE. This skill is a must-have for anyone using Destro staff. Especially if you have the Maelstrom Destro!
 5. Inner Light – We need that Max Magicka and Spell Crit on both bars, so double-slot it!
 6. ULTIMATE: Standard of Might – Propably the best ultimate in the game DPS-wise. It not only does insane damage, but it also buffs our whips. Being our main spammable, this is too crazy to pass up on. Pop it and watch those numbers rise faster than a fat persons blood-pressure!

Mundus Stone

The choice here is relatively set in stone. We want more crit and crit dmg, so we’re going for the Thief stone aswell as the Shadow since we’re using TBS. If you want the math behind it, check out @Asayre‘s fantastic work. If you’re not using TBS, go for Thief stone.

Rotation

Many people fear Magicka DKs for their rotation and the complexity involved. I think my rotation is fairly simple once you get into it, but it relies on alot of weaves and muscle memory. Keep your tongue straight and it’ll work like a charm!

First off, terminology. FHA = Full Heavy Attack, LA = Light Attack, MA = Medium Attack, BC = Block Cancel.

Pre fight you need to activate FoO, your potion and Inner Light in order to empower your Full Heavy. FHA -> eruption -> LA -> FoO -> LA -> trap -> LA -> standard -> LA -> embers -> LA -> engulfing -> LA -> Blockade -> 6x whip+LA -> LA -> embers -> LA -> engulfing -> LA -> Blockade -> LA and restart at eruption. Now, some aspects cannot be put into the rotation, such as reactivating Standard and Potions. Reactivate potions on cooldown and drop your standard either on cooldown or when it seems reasonable (Like when Mantikora spawns on Serpent or when Hulk spawns on Rakkhat). Additionally, we don’t do another FHA during the rotation as it’s only for the initial burst. That is also why we empower our FHA and pray to RNGesus for a crit (50k opener is nice if RNGesus blesses us).

Champion Points

These are extremely subject to change as my testing progresses. I’m basing my Mage CPs on @Asayre‘s incredibly helpful spreadsheet.

Changes for vmol

Based on several vMoL completes, I can conclude with the following:

DKs will now become more for utility whilst still dishing out high DPS. We’re needed for chaining more than ever, which is kind of nice. The ranged nature of many fights means we’ll be loosing Entropy for Force Pulse and swap FoO for situational skills such as Deep Breath and Chains.

As far as skills go, this is what I’ll be operating with for 90% of the Trial:

skills

As far as skills go, the above setup is what I run for 1st and last boss. If I’m on chain-duty for 2nd boss, I’ll swap FoO for chains and IL for Deep Breath. For first boss I run the same as my normal PvE setup. For AoE, we obviously need Ele Ring so drop FoO for it. For first and last boss, you can swap IL on backbar for Harness if needed (It usually is).

Gear

Since it’s a trial, we’ll run TBS as it’ll net us the highest DPS increase. Make sure you have an Aggressive War Horn rotation in your group before using TBS.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What kind of potions and food do you use?
A: Max Magicka + Max Health food. Unfortunately we’re chugging potions like we have a bad Skooma addiction. If you don’t have the gold to spend, atleast try to use 2stat pots with Spell DMG and Magicka. If you’re really that cheap, you can also keep Entropy on your bar…

Q: When do we get more parses?
A: I upload them as often as I get them. I’m picky about my parses – especially now that we’re running a very different setup from previous updates – so don’t expect new parses every week.

Hello, before i start i would like to say 2 things. First, i’m now basing my posts more around build videos, where i go over the build, show the rotation, etc.

Secondly, for all the newer players out there reading this guide: This build is based around Hardcore endgame raid content, the gear needed is far from the most beginner-friendly to farm, this build however is buil to be the absolute minmaxed and best setup you can get, anything after getting every piece of right gear, skills, champion points etc is upto you to do as well as possible with it.

I will however include some easier to farm gear setups and options if your group setups are not optimal.

Note: I HIGHLY recommend you watch my build video before reading further, most of the basic stuff about the build is explained here, you can read this post for more detailed explenations, options and rotation details.

 • Race:

The way i see it, if you’re not either a High Elf or a Dunmer your dps will be noticably lower compared. Most people say Breton is an ok choice, i disagree with this, i think that if you’re trying to do the most damage you possibly can, you should be either one of these 2 races, if we take 2 players, where both players know what they’re doing, one is a Dunmer, and the other is a Breton, the Dunmer will come very easily on top in DPS, i’m not going to state any spesific numbers, because these things are hard to measure 100% accurately, but i’d say as a Breton you could loose upto 4k or more single-target damage. This being said, a Breton player who knows what he is doing, vs a Dunmer who has no clue what he is doing. The Breton will come on top, you dont automaticly get good because you have the right race.

This being said, the best race to use is Dunmer. The difference between High Elves and Dunmers are not the most significant, but there still are some differences.

As a Dunmer you get 3% more flame damage then a High Elf, in exchange for 1% less Max Magicka. You might say: not all your skills are flame damage, but all your skills scale off magicka, so wouldn’t 1% magicka be better? No, 1% Magicka does not mean 1% more damage, your damage does scale off Magicka, but not to the exact amount, 1% Magicka does not mean 1% More Magic damage. However the Dunmer passive does mean 3% more pure damage, and with the sets and skills you use, you get a whole lot more benefit from this.

 • Gear:

So, i’m going to list a variety of different possible setups, all these setups will do well, and wich one is best might depend on your playstyle, group setup and skill. Therefore i recommend you try out as many of these setups as possible, and find the one wich you get the best results with.

Setup #1; Grothdarr, Burning Spellweave & Mothers Sorrow: Maximum Damage

The most ideal and highest damage possible setup, this is the version i use, and the one i show in the build video.

Helmet: Grothdarr, (Heavy Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Shoulders: Grothdarr, (Medium Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Chest: Burning Spellweave , (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Legs: Burning Spellweave, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Gloves: Burning Spellweave, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Belt: Burning Spellweave, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Shoes: Burning Spellweave, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Necklace: Mothers Sorrow, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Ring #1: Mothers Sorrow, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Ring #2: Mothers Sorrow, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Weapons:

On the mainbar i use 2 Swords of a Mothers Sorrow, one in Precise and one in Sharpened. One “Increase weapon & Spell Damage” Enchantment, and one Flame Damage enchantment (Prismatic when fighting Daedric/Undead).

On my offbar i have a Maelstrom Inferno Staff in Sharpened.

Setup #2; Grothdarr, Moondancer, Mothers Sorrow (or Burning Spellweave): Easier Sustain and safety.

This setup is one i’ve used in the past for nodeath runs in trials, it gives you alot more sustain, and therefore allows you to swap out Channeled Focus with Dampen Magic (or Harness magicka), and you can cast it without much problem of running out of magicka.

Helmet: Grothdarr, (Heavy Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Shoulders: Grothdarr, (Medium Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Chest: Mothers Sorrow , (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Legs: Mothers Sorrow, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Gloves: Mothers Sorrow, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Belt: Mothers Sorrow, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Shoes: Mothers Sorrow, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Necklace: Moondancer, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Ring #1: Moondancer, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Ring #2: Moondancer, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Weapons:

On the mainbar, use 2 Moondancer Swords, one in Precise and one in Sharpened. One “Increase weapon & Spell Damage” Enchantment, and one Flame Damage enchantment (Prismatic when fighting Daedric/Undead).

On offbar i prefer a Moondancer Inferno Staff in Sharpened with the “Charged Weapon” trait (flame if fighting daedra and your mainbar has a prismatic enchant), thats simply just for comfort. A Maelstrom Inferno Staff in Sharpened works equally as good.

Setup #3; Grothdarr, Twice-Born Star, Moondancer/Aether, Willpower : More Beginner friendly, very easily obtained gear.

This is FAR from the best setup, but if you’re completely new to the class and dont want to spend a ton of time farming gear or a ton of gold buying it, this could be a nice setup for you to get a feel for the class and still pull decent numbers.

Helmet: Grothdarr, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Shoulders: Grothdarr, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Chest: Twice-Born Star, (Heavy Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Legs: Twice-Born Star, (Medium Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Gloves: Twice-Born Star, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Belt: Twice-Born Star, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Shoes: Twice-Born Star, (Light Armor, Divines, Maximum Magicka Enchantment)

Necklace: Moondancer/Infallible Aether, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Ring #1: Moondancer/Infallible Aether, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Ring #2: Moondancer/Infallible Aether, Arcane, Spell Damage Enchantment

Weapons:

On the mainbar use 2 Willpower swords in Sharpened, One “Increase weapon & Spell Damage” Enchantment, and one Flame Damage enchantment.

On the offbar use a Maelstrom Inferno Staff preferrably in Sharpened, if not use a crafted staff in Sharpened with Increase Spell Damage enchant, and replace the Spell Damage enchant on your sword with the “Charged” (shock damage) enchant.

 • Regularly asked questions:

Why 1 Sharpened 1 Precise? Should i use that?:

This really depends on your raidgroup, when it comes to me, i’m a member of a raidgroup where we have one of the highest uptimes of buffs out of all the topguilds, the reason i use 1 Sharpened is because our resistance debuffs have such a high uptime that most of the time, there is only 3k resistance left on the boss, and with 2 sharpened i would overshoot that resistance by 2k, therefore i go 1 precise instead.

If you do not have atleast 2 players using the “Roar of Alkosh” set, 2 healers and a tank with the Infused Crushing Enchant, atleast 60% uptime on Power of The Light, x2 Sharpened will most likely be better for you.

Why is Burning Spellweave better then Twice-Born Star?

Think of it like this. Let’s only count the 5 piece bonuses of these two sets, in order for Burning Spellweave to outdps the second mundus stone, you would require a 50% uptime on the set buff, this is EXTREMELY easy to do. My average uptime is close to 60%, wich makes it way better.

Now, let’s count the 2,3 and 4 piece bonuses. Twice-Born Star has 1 magicka bonus, thats not bad, but it also gives you health and stamina, this has 0 affect on your dps. While Burning Spellweave gives you damage and crit, making it much much more usefull.

Grothdarr? Is this the best undaunted set?

YES! Grothdarr is ridicilously overpowered, in addition to being a completely ridicilous amount of damage, having a high proc chance and being AoE. It also helps proc Burning Spellweave.

 • The Most efficient way to farm Mothers Sorrow

Because of the strength and demand of this set, it is extremely expensive, especially the swords wich are the most important part.

Most people think the best way to farm this set is killing world bosses or killing mobs in the Public Dungeon in Deshaan, this is not the case.

The most efficient way to farm Mothers Sorrow is much less known, and involves farming chests.

Step #1: Download the addon “HarvestMap” on ESOUI.com (Link)

Step #2: Go to http://www.teso-harvest-merge.de/ Upload your already downloaded HarvestMap Files. It will merge them with a community database, and add any nodes not already in the database to a register of every resource node/chest etc in the game. After you have uploaded them and they have been scanned for new nodes, you can download the community files, wich include every chest in the game.

Step #3: Use the built-in “FarmTours” feature ingame with the HarvestMap addon, follow the arrow and open every chest you see.

Make sure you have 75 points in “The Shadow” champion tree giving you more chance for set items

 • Final Note:

That’s it for the One Tamriel update, this update to my build is very different to others, so i’m really curious to hear feedback on how you like it, much less detailed info and explenations in the written guide, and more in the build videos.

I will also upload a rotation guide sometime in the future, so stay tuned for that.

Also feel free to ask me any questions about the build in this thread or on my youtube channel, i do my best to answer everyone as well as i can.

You can also contact me in-game on PC EU, @Latter, i will not respond if i’m in a raid so keep that in mind. I really appreciate it when people tell me they like my build! :D
