Welcome Nightblades, magicka or otherwise inclined.
Not updated to 1.7
There has been a lot of testing hours spent min-maxing this build from several members to provide competitive DPS and significant support and utility for endgame content. I would like to share this build to help others and gain potential improvements.
OBJECTIVES:
- Provide competitive sustained dps (11-15+k) as well as utility and significant off-healing for endgame content.
- Maximise potential from Attributes, Stats and Gear.
- To see how it all works check out the Screenshots at the bottom of the post.
ADVANTAGES:
- Sustained competitive DPS
- Our single target and aoe damage also provides healing.
- Extremely high execute damage – I can achieve 28k crits from impale when fully buffed.
- No mana problems – very cheap mana costs.
- Fastest ultimate generation in the game.
- Can hold block infinitely in AoE situations.
- Generate ultimate through heals while dpsing.
- Provide increased weapon crit chance to party on crit.
ATTRIBUTES:
I usually aim for around 19K Health. While it is completely possible to function with lower health pool however 19k should be a safe minimum for AA, Hel Ra, Sanctum Ophelia and DSA. Everything else I focus into magicka.

Incombat Stats:

RACIAL CHOICES:
While still possible with other races Breton is the clear master race for this build with the 10% extra magicka, spellcost reduction and beneficial spell resistance.
- Ideal Race: Breton
- Good Races: High Elf, Dark Elf,
- Meh Race: Imperial
MUNDUS STONE:
- The Mage – This is the obvious choice for almost all Magicka builds at the moment. Increases your max magicka.
- The Apprentice – Increases your spell penetration there is merit to this mundus if the target you are fighting is not otherwise de-buffed (Elemental Drain, Pierce Armour, etc).
CHAMPION POINTS:
The focus of these point allocations is to optimise magicka dps any options that offer increased magical damage or spell crit and sustainability are a priority.
Blue:
We focus on unlocking the spell crit increase passive then prioritise thaumaturge as it increases all our magic damage with our class abilities. While levelling and under 90 champion points it is actually more beneficial to increase thaumaturge to 29 and upon unlocking your 30th blue point swap to Elfborn.
- Apprentice – Elfborn (30): Increase spell critical damage and healing by 11.8%
- Apprentice – Spell Precision (Passive unlocked at 30): Increase spell crit by 12%
- Ritual – Thaumaturge (The Rest): Increases your Poison, Disease and Magic Damage by [x]%
Green:
The most beneficial passives are the reduced magicka cost which should be focused heavily until too much diminishing returns. The increased regeneration is also good to slowly add points into.
- The Tower – Magician (X): Reduces the Magicka cost of Spells by [x]%.
- The Lover – Arcanist (X): Increases your Magicka Regeneration by [x]%.
Red:
Multiple useful passives in this area for survivability include block cost reduction, those which increase armour and spell resistance inaddition to all the Lady passives which mitigates damage. We want to focus block cost initially as it greatly reduces our damage and during aoe we are one of the only builds than can permanently hold block.
- The Steed – Block Expertise (X): Reduces the cost of blocking by [x]%. (Focus)
- The Steed – Spell Shield (X): Increases Spell Resistance by [x]%.
- The Lady – Light Armor Focus(X): Increases your Armor by [x]% while wearing 5 or more pieces of Light Armor.
GEAR:
Important features in this setup are the use of 3 different armour types and the use of Infused traits on large armour pieces and the optimum set up of small pieces having divines and the one necessary well-fitted trait.

Amendment:
- Nirnhoned Trait Weapons are best for bosses with higher spell resistance.
- Precise for bosses with primarily armour based resistances.
- IF IN DOUBT: Go Nirnhoned.
We wear 1 Heavy 1 Medium 5 Light to make use of the Undaunted Mettle passive for a total of 6% increase to all stats.
Important Note: I also posses nirnhoned gear to increase my Spell resistance to an effective 30k while fully buffed.
The primary bar uses a destruction staff with the Nirnhoned trait and a Poison enchant.
- Burning dot
- Posion dot amplified by thaumaturge
- Higher damage light attack weaving.
The second bar dual wields swords both Nirnhoned with a poision and a disease enchant
- Higher Spell damage from dual wielding therefore higher skill damage.
- No light attacks during AoE or Execute needed.
- Potential DPS increase if using one sword of torug’s pact and a Master sword as the master sword’s enchantment increases spell power as well.
SKILLS:
These skills will provide your single target and aoe options:

Weapon Swap One: Destruction Staff
Merciless Resolve:
Self applied combat prayer damage boost with a damaging activation. The activation can be double clicked and while reapplying the buff another skill can be used during the reapplying animation to increase damage. It is good to maintain this buff at all times unless you have a healer who is dead on with their combat prayers the entire time.
Funnel Health:
Main damage source which also provides a significant group heal over time. Procs ultimate gain from Transfer passive every 4 seconds.
Crippling Grasp:
Throw more DOTS. High damage overtime effect grants you major expidition so you are perminantly under the effect of rapid manuvers during combat. This allows for easier dodges and repositioning during fights.
Structured Entropy:
Slotted primarily for the 8% increase to max health and the 2% increase to max magicka. Allows for more attributes to me put into your magicka pool. Provides a low damage dot and hot and major sorcery buff. If you are slacking on using crit potions then this needs to be used on cooldown. I use this on my rotation as it is still a slight DPS increase to use over one funnel health. But passively increases all damage.
Inner Light:
7% magicka increase. Grants spell crit increase (does not stack with potion).
Ice comet:
Extremely high initial damage and DOT effect in addition to 2% extra max magicka.
On this bar our max magicka is increased with the following:
Magicka Flood: 8%
Magicka Controller: 6%
Inner light: 5%
Undaunted Mettle: 6%
Gift of Magnus: 10%
Weapon Swap Two: Dual Swords
Imaple:
Amazing ranged execute. Light attack weaving is a dps loss this skill should be spammed above all other skills. Start at 24% Health.
Sap Essence:
Aoe while providing the magicka flood passive, good damage, ultimate generation and a strong heal. Provides major sorcery (does not stack with potions).
Twisiting path:
Aoe Dot which passive increases your Health by 3% passively and 5120 armour and spell resistance for 6 seconds on activation.
Siphoning attacks:
Mana and Stamina sustain allows for infinate resources during aoe situations and for you to always be able to hold block. Only used in AoE situations.
Soul Harvest:
Amazing ultility and buff ultimate. Enemies you kill while this is slotted give you 10 ultimate each kill, since it is slotted on your aoe bar your ultimate recharges very fast during trash or adds. It increases your crit chance by 2% passively. On use increases the damage done to target by 20%. Very cheap skill if cannot cast ice commet on execute use this at 24% boss hp then spam impale for incredible damage.
*Note: This is your flex slot for ultimates: Other very good options:
- Veil of Blades – When called for by your raid leader
- Barrier - The best OH SHIT ultimate in the game, something goes wrong? No sweat. Heres a 31k shield for EVERYONE. Used for SO trash, certain boss mechanics.
Boss Execute Bar:
When the encounter won’t have aoe I replace my execute bar with this.

The extra assassination skills provide increased crit chance and crippling grasp can be used on cooldown while providing the magicka flood passive.
ROTATION:
Merciless Resolve -> Heavy Attack (HA) -> Structured Entropy -> Ice comet -> Crippling Grasp -> LA -> Funnel Health -> LA -> Funnel Health
Boss at 24% HP: Soul Harvest -> Impale -> Impale -> Impale reapplying cripple when runs out
Key Aspects:
- Maintain Dots,
- Launch your Ice Comet when boss will be ~stationary it has a powerful dot on impact location.
- Potions should be used on cooldown.
- Use a potion when swapping bars to avoid the crit potion micro stun.
- Potions to be used after Ice comet for increased ultimate gain from catalyst passive (gain 12 ultimate from potion use).
- Alchemy 50: Medicinal use so potions can be used on cooldown of their effects.
- Drop Ice comet after structured entropy for increased spell damage on initial hit from mage’s guiild passive followed by cripple without light attack weaves to best use might of the guild.
SCREENSHOTS & DPS POSTS:
I will try to update these when I have the time or opportunity – it might take a while, please bare with my slacking.
