ESO Advanced Fishing Guide 1.0
by Garok

So you’ve casted a few times and have decided to pursuit arguably the most elusive character title in the game: “Master Angler”. Good for you! However, you are in for a long haul. But with patience, a good buddy, and some guidance, your experience will be a little less excruciating.

Part 1 – General Advice
1) You need to know where all of the fish are!! The website ESOHEAD has maps for each zone that show you where each type of water can be found AND the type of rare that will need to be caught for each corresponding water type:  http://www.esohead.com/achievements#category:16
2) Once you catch a rare, the game will immediately recognize it and mark it off your trophy list.
3) Sell your rare to a merchant. Your inventory space is too valuable. Plus, the game has already marked it off your list
4) You can view your progress by: Opening your in-game Menu –> Journal –> Achievements –> Trophies
5) Be courteous. Once you start casting in a fishing hole, please empty it out (15 fish). The hole won’t respawn until it has been emptied. Nothing is more annoying than finding a fishing hole only for it to be emptied in 2 casts

Part 2 – Bait Tidbits
1) Simple Bait is garbage. Don’t waste your money. I have never caught a “rare” fish using it. Save your gold
2) I have found that the two baits for each type of water are equal. For example, fishing in the ocean with worms will give the same chance of catching a rare as using chud
3) Acquire Bait
.         a. Farming
.               i. Insect Parts – By far the easiest to find…harvest torchbugs, butterflies, ect.
.              ii. Crawlers – difficult…harvest tiny creatures like spiders, centipedes, etc. You also have a chance to be awarded crawlers by harvesting plants like jute, wormwood, etc. Some enemies drop crawlers when defeated
.             iii. Guts – a little more difficult…harvest small animals like rabbits, rats, squirrels, frogs, etc. Some enemies drop guts when defeated
.             iv. Worms – these little guys will be your bottleneck. They are very hard to come by. You have a chance to be awarded worms by harvesting plants like jute, wormwood, etc. Some enemies drop worms when defeated
.         b. The Easy Way
.               i. Join a merchant guild and check the auction house
.              ii. Ask your friends – Most people just “destroy” bait. Ask them to hook you up!
.             iii. Join an ESO forum and place an open request – Example: ESO Buy Sell and Trade   http://www.esobst.com/

Part 3 – Fishing Endgame
1) Fish as you go – Do not put it off! Grinding fishing holes for 5 zones in a row is boring and monotonous. If you see a hole during normal questing, take the time to cast a line
2) Fishing in groups – This is the only time that I can sponsor grinding. Why? Your chances of catching a rare increase in conjunction with the number of people fishing. This saves bait, and makes fishing 100x more enjoyable
.         a. Approximately a 5% chance per cast to catch a rare – 1 person
.         b. 10% – 2 people (i.e. your chances double)
.         c. 15% – 3 people (i.e. your chances triple)
.         d. 20% – 4+ people (i.e. your chances quadruple)
3) The Catch
.         a. Let’s assume that you catch a rare
.                i. Approximately 80% it will be a green rare
.               ii. 20% it will be a blue rare
.         b. Why does rare % matter – A perfect example is Coldharbour, which has 12 rares: 8 green, 4 blue
.                i. Coldharbor ONLY has foul water
.               ii. You can catch the same rare fish multiple times (and you will!).
.              iii. When you manage to catch a rare
.                     1. 80% it will be a green rare
.                           a. Then an equal 1 in 8 chance to be any of the green rares
.                     2. 20% it will be a blue rare
.                           a. Then an equal 1 in 4 chance to be any of the blue rares
.         c. This means that Coldharbour will be, by far, the largest obstacle to surmount
