Welcome!

This is my Magicka Sorcerer Heavy Attack+Pet build for players who cannot achive
sharpened or even precise weapons from veteran Malestorm Arena and Trials (like me).

This builds works fine in Trials and Dungeons and also provide decent dps.
Remember, its “no vMA weapons build” so numbers should be around 40k but im sure of that a lot of better players can get 40k+ dps on 3M target dummy skeleton with similar gear and rotations.

Thief

Rotation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8b6XrwyBrE

We are testing our dps on 3M target dummy so for the tests im useing elemental drain skill.
When You are in Trial or Dung You can use Hardened Ward instead of Elemental Drain.

/ Elemental Drain / Thunderous Rage / Liquid Lighting / LA / Blockade of Storms / SWAP
/ LA / Volatile Familiar / LA / Daedric Prey / LA / Flame Reach / SWAP
/ HA / Liquid Lighting / LA / Blockade of Storms / SWAP
/ LA / Volatile Familiar / LA / Daedric Prey / LA / Flame Reach / SWAP
/ HA / Liquid Lighting / LA / Blockade of Storms / LA/ Elemental Drain / SWAP
/ Volatile Familiar / LA / Daedric Prey / LA / Flame Reach / SWAP
/ HA / and keep that rotation till You get to 20% HP. When You get 20% use last rotation with all dots and use:
/ LA / Mages Wrath / LA / Mages Wrath / LA / to finish.

- Use Shooting Star when ult ready.
- LA – Light Attack
- HA – Heavy Attack

Championpoints (630cp):

The Ritual – 75 Thaumaturge

This is my Out of the Box series were we look at gear that isn’t top 2 BIS and see how it really compares in weakness and strength. Some offer unique play styles and we will go into those here!

Mephala’s Venom
2 Mephala’s divines med
5 Poisonous Serpent divines
5 SunderFlame 2 Daggers Sharpened 3 jewerly 3 weapon damage
Front Bar:
Rending slashes , Venomous Claw, Deadly Cloak, Molten Armaments, Evil Hunter ULT Dawnbreaker
Back Bar:
Poison Injection, Endless, ReArming Trap, Caltrops, Flame of Oblivion ULT Standard of Might
This build is focuses on heavy attacks combing with Molten Armaments gaining 40% attack Damage on fully charged heavy attacks.

Since this is the mephala’s verison we are going with Mephala dot aoe damage off OUR full heavies. Along with 2 heavy attack centric set Sunder Flame and group debuff also poisonous serpent.

Pros:
Great sustain,
Easy to play,
Required NO vma
Group debuff

Cons:
Not BIS
Low aoe damage
Mainly Single Target

Best in slot race
Khajit, Orc,
Rotation: Buff- Heavy – Dot- Win

Hi guys,
maybe some of your fine folks want to help me building a “kind of” easier way for people to find the perfect CP distribution.

I tried to build a spread sheet that helps you filling in the correct numbers in the CP Calculator of @Asayre. It’s the first attempt, maybe it’s shitty, maybe its helpful – you guys have to decide. Only works for Stamina DK, Stamina NB and Stamina Sorc so far. If the idea is shitty to beginn with, I dont wanted to waste too much time.

If you are interested in participating:

Just go to https://drive.google.com/open?id=1FlCNaE6kW3Ts1Vry0Z4QNGb64Zc4bYYDEUqxBImhGNQ and try to use it.

Any feedback is great. If you see easier ways to achieve my goal, that’s even better :)

To avoid a thousand little threads that can be resolved with one post and source link, let’s just throw every question might you have in this thread and keep the forums clean for actual dicussions.

How to use this thread:

  1. Try Google, Tamriel Foundry’s search function or have a look at our Development FAQ before you ask a question. Check the frequently asked questions further down as well. Otherwise we’ll have to answer the same question every other page.
  2. Answer other people’s question only if you you know the answer. Wrong or unclear answers will be removed. Try to provide a source.

3 Piece Moondancer Jewelry Arcane with full Spell Damage enchants

2 Piece Ilambris Divines with Magicka enchants

1 Sharpened Maelstrom Inferno Staff (Main bar)

1 Sharpened Moondancer Lightning Destro Staff

Bar setup

Main bar (vMA Staff): Inner Light, Cripple, Swallow Soul, Merciless Resolve, Elemental Blockade. Ultimate – Shooting Star.

Execute bar/AoE (Off Bar Staff): Inner Light (Shield replaces this if you need it), Twisting Path, Impale, Shock Clench, Siphoning Attacks. Ultimate – Soul Harvest

Rotation (Safe = 2 Assasin’s Wills):

Siphoning Attacks>Merciless Resolve>Meteor

Step 1: LA>Elemental Blockade>LA>Cripple>Bar Swap Cancel
Step 2: LA>Twisting Path>LA>Shock Clench>Bar Swap Cancel
Step 3: LA>Assasin’s Will>LA>Swallow Soul>LA>Swallow Soul>LA>Swallow Soul(If Shooting Star is up replace 1 swallow with it)
Step 4: LA>Elemental Blockade>LA>Cripple>Bar Swap Cancel

Step 5: LA>Twisting Path>LA>Shock Clench>LA>Siphoning Attacks>Bar Swap Cancel

Step 6: LA>Assasin’s Will>LA>Merciless Resolve>LA>Swallow Soul>LA Swallow Soul

Restart Step 1

When the target reaches 25% Keep your Merciless Resolve, Blockade, Cripple and Twisting Path Up and do LA>Impale.

Rotation (OP = 3 Assasin’s Wills):

Siphoning Attacks>Meteor>Merciless Resolve

Step 1: LA>Elemental Blockade>LA>Cripple>Bar Swap Cancel
Step 2: LA>Twisting Path>LA>Shock Clench>Bar Swap Cancel
Step 3: LA>Assasin’s Will>LA>Swallow Soul>LA>Swallow Soul>LA>Swallow (If Shooting Star is up replace 1 swallow with it)
Step 4: LA>Elemental Blockade>LA>Cripple>LA>Assasin’s Will>Bar Swap Cancel
Step 5: LA>Twisting Path>LA>Shock Clench>LA>Siphoning Attacks>Bar Swap Cancel>LA Swallow Soul>LA>Assasin’s Will>LA>Merciless Resolve

Restart at Step 1

When the target reaches 25% Keep your Merciless Resolve, Blockade, Cripple and Twisting Path Up and do LA>Impale.

Reasoning:

1. Why Ilambris?

With dual staves it gives the best damage out of all of the monster sets.

2. Why do we reapply DoT’s early?
With this rotation you end up losing 3 ticks off of your Twisting Path and 1 tick off of the shock clench DoT. This loss is morre than mitigated by a clear rotation that is static and allows you to have 2 Assasin Will procs within each rotation.

3. Why only 2 Assasin’s wills?

While on a target dummy 3 Assasin’s Wills is not only possible, but fairly easy to accomplish, the same thing could not be said in a trial setting. One little missed weave and you lose your buff. Also by using 3 Assasin’s Wills in one Merrciless proc we are faced with a non-static rotation which makes things difficult.

4. Why Swallow Soul?

For sustain.

5  Why not 75 in thaum?

Magblade is the inly magicka class (not sure about wardens) that should not have 75 points into thaum. Why not you ask? Because it is a giant dps loss. When you run a no CP analysis on your rotation  your dots deal only around 30% of your dps (+/- 3), so the CO calculator suggests a 28 point value into thaum and a whole lot more into Master at Arms. By taking nearly 50 points out of other trees to accomodate off balance CP you are severely lowering your dps, since most of it vones from firect damage attacks  suffice it to say changing CP to the one I listed in my guide  automatically added ne 4k dps…

SETS

WHY MEDIUM ARMOR? As a NB u get passives for stam regen and magicka regen which makes med armor the best suited armor for stamNB. Always remember that high crit rate from medium armor means higher rally and vigor heals!

PROC OR NO PROC? Proc sets got a big nerf for being unable to crit. This is a significant nerf to my khajiit as I rely a lot on crit damage to kill of targets. However being a stamNB you could easily empower the damage from proc sets or skills. The 3 ways are 2h fully charged heavy attack, ambush or incap strikes bonus damage. So, Proc sets are actually pretty solid for stamNB. That being said Spriggan or Draugr set are solid sets to replace proc sets too.

TROLL KING OR SELENE? Both are really good. Troll king give u a lot of room for error since u will be healing like a mad cow as soon as your hp drops below 60%. However if u are a experience stamina NB I believe that selene is better for pure killing or 1vX-ing. In conclusion, Troll king = defensive // Selene = offensive

CP

Very straight forward and generic. Just make sure u have 40 points into crit damge and 40 into dodge roll.

SKILLS

Some skills are interchangable

1. relentless focus FOR  trap beast/siphoning/blood craze

2. Dawnbreaker    FOR  soul teather/werewolf ulti/2H ultimate

STATS SHEET

Unbuffed stats sheet

FoodBuff

– Dubious Camoran Throne

Mundus

– Serpent mundus

COMBACT TACTICS

Try to play around the CD of your proc sets to burst down targets. To maximize your damage output using cloak into a full charged dual wield heavy attack is important to apply both weapon enchantment. Top that off with viper and an incap strike for some sweet dips.

Against targets that block a lot make sure to fear before doing incap or surprise attack

Backbar poison is really important against tanky healbot or shield stackers

Since the build has no major expedition, speed potions are extremely important. Shadow image is one of the skills you should master as well as it provides an escape route when fighting in outnumbered situations

LAST WORDS:

The nerf of proc sets, incap, shuffle and rearming traps did actually made stamNB weaker in a few department compare to last patch. However, stamNB is still the highest instant damage dealer in PVP imo. The changes requires players to time an incap properly instead of spamming it since it cost 70 ulti now. All in all stamNB is still the same & still very good.

Lastly, Feel free to gimme some constructive feedback!

Optimal weapon and trait combination for 2H and DW

$

Often I come across the question of what is the best weapon and trait combination for stamina users with respect to 2H and DW. The case for 2H is relatively straightforward and I’ve seen a few answers on the forums with reasonable explanations however the DW case is much more complex as there are 18 possible combinations. Axes are not being considered since the Bleed effect is refreshed quite often and it appears unlikely that it will run its full course. In this post, I’ll give a rough estimate for the optimal weapon and trait combination for 2H and DW for both PvE and PvP. Boss resistance is assumed to be around 18200 as this is the resistance of the Blood Spawn in Spindleclutch. The conclusion for PvE Boss applies even when Major Fracture is applied. In the next post I’ll explain how I reached this conclusion.

2H

PvE

Bosses (Resistance ~18k): Sharpened Maul

Mobs (Resistance ~9k): Sharpened/Precise Greatsword

PvP

Light armour targets (Resistance ~10k): Precise Greatsword

Medium armour targets (Resistance ~13k): Sharpened/Precise Greatsword

Heavy armour targets (Resistance ~20k): Sharpened Maul

DW

PvE

Bosses (Resistance ~18k): Two Sharpened Mace

Mobs (Resistance ~9k): Two Sharpened Swords or Two Precise Daggers (Combination 7, 10, 12, 13, 14 are viable depending on exact Critical Chance and Critical Modifier)

PvP

Light armour targets (Resistance ~10k): Two Precise Sword or Two Precise Dagger

Medium armour targets (Resistance ~13k): Two Sharpened Sword Two Precise Dagger

Heavy armour targets (Resistance ~20k): Two Sharpened Mace

Horny Tank – DK Main Tank Build for End-Game PvE (Morrowind) (vHoF HM Approved)

Hey everyone ! Welcome to my DK Main Tanking Build for Update 14 , Morrowind ! This is a build that you can use everywhere without having to change items . It has crazy sustain if you want it to , pretty good tankiness and lots of group support with increased Ultimate Regeneration . Let’s start !

Advantages :

– Decent Health . Still very good if you want to shield spam .

– A lot of sustain but only if you want to .

– Being able to spam anything . Literally , your Magicka DDs are having Magicka issues ? Spam orbs from start of combat until the end . Heavy damage incoming to whole group ? Spam Igneous Shield ! No worries !

– Boosts group survivability a lot and increases DPS of group big time .

Disadvantages :

– No heals for group . Due to low Stamina pool and low Weapon Damage , our Vigor is almost useless . We cover this up by spamming almost 10k Igneous Shield for your group mates though .

– Healer dependant . A lot . If your healer is down , you gonna have a bad time . This is why we are running as DK .

RACE CHOICE

I am Dunmer and happy . BUT , Imperial is simply the best . Max Health is really important for this build . I don’t race change because I like Dunmers ^^

Secondary choices are Argonian , Orc and Nord .

STATS

All to Health .

I have around 48k Health , 10k Magicka and 15k Stamina . Should be higher if Imperial .

ITEMS

5 Ebon Armory : This set is really , really useful . I have seen so many people recovering from under 1000 Health during trials . Without Ebon , they would die . A necessity .

Hands (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Waist (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Jewelry x3 (Healthy) : Shield-Play

5 Tava’s Favor : This is the best set in the game for ultimate regeneration . You simply can’t go wrong with it .

Chest (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Legs (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Feet (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

1h/s on front bar (Infused/Sturdy) : Crusher/Health

Dual Wield on back bar (Decisive/Decisive) : Weakening/Shock Damage

2 Blood Spawn : Only set that increases group DPS . More Warhorns = more group DPS . Simple as that .

Head (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Shoulder (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

SKILLS

1.Bar :

1- Pierce Armor : Melee taunt . Applies Major Fracture and Major Breach . Necessity .

2- Heroic Slash : Applies Minor Maim . Gives Minor Heroism . Less damage taken for group and more Ultimate for you .

3- Igneous Shield : Gives nearly 10k shield to allies . Spam this during heavy incoming damage to group . 1st boss vMoL shield phase , Warrior Starfall attack etc. Restores 5% stamina back and gives 3 Ultimate every 6 seconds .

4- Balance : This is where it gets interesting . This skill is considered the most useless by almost everyone . Definitely not . It steals your Health and gives you Magicka . This is how we are able to sustain through everything and spam whatever we want , however we want . Also , this is our resource of Major Ward and Major Resolve .

5- Green Dragon Blood : Increases our Healing Taken by 20% thanks to Minor Vitality and Burning Heart passives and a huge burst heal .

Ultimate- Aggressive Horn : Best Ultimate for tanks . Gives 10% Max Magicka , Max Health and Max Stamina to whole group . That means more survivability for your group and bigger Igneous Shields from Max Health ; more shield size and damage for your Magicka DDs and more pool to block , dodge for Magicka DDs , more damage for Stamina DDs . Even after Major Force nerf , this Ultimate is still the best .

2.Bar :

1- Flex Spot

2- Flex Spot

3- Invigorating Drain : Best tool we have for generating Ultimate . Makes you drop block so be careful while using it .

4- Inner Rage : Ranged taunt . You don’t even have to morph this but if you do , choose the Magicka one .

5- Elude : Necessary for proccing Tava’s Favor . Expensive skill but definitely worth it .

Ultimate- Magma Shell : Saves your ass during emergencies .

Flex Spot skills : You just choose according to the fight .

1- Engulfing Flames : In trials , you should already have a Magicka DK but in pledges , you may not have . This is an insane boost to all other Magicka DDs .

2- Unrelenting Grip : Good old chains . Use wherever it is necessary .

3- Choking Talons : AOE Minor Maim and root . Has some use in trials and pledges .

4- Dragon Fire Scale : Has only one use . Ghost boss in AA . You don’t even have to block there . You can just reflect everything with this . Does around 10k DPS ^^

5- Turn Undead : 24 seconds of AOE Minor Protection . Insane .

6- Mystic Orb : Really useful skill for Magicka sustain of DDs .

7- Bone Surge : Your off-tank can use the synergy to proc Alkosh while giving lots of shield to your allies .

8- Sanguine Altar : 46 seconds of 750 Healing per second to every DD .

9- Retreating Maneuver : Speed Buff . Necessary in speed runs and certain situations .

10- Echoing Vigor : Even though our Vigor is almost useless , I will definitely try this with using Powerful Assault instead of Alkosh .

11- Efficient Purge : Purges the negative effects from your allies .

12- Stalwart Guard : Make sure you keep this on both bars if you gonna use it . Increases damage of an ally by giving them Minor Force and protects them .

CHAMPION POINTS

RED

66 Ironclad , 43 Elemental Defender , 43 Hardy , 56 Thick Skinned , 2 Heavy Armor Focus

GREEN

2 Warlord , 75 Tenacity , 52 Tumbling , 81 Shadow Ward .

BLUE

49 Blessed , 41 Elfborn , 100 Precise Strikes , 20 Thaumaturge . Since we have almost no healing , I decided to get Major Heroism . It procs time to time .

That is all for now . I will update this guide according to the changes incoming . If you have any questions , you can mail me in-game @LiofaTR (PC EU) or just leave a comment here . Thanks for reading !

Cheers ,

Liofa

Stamina Nightblade PvE Guide for Morrowind Update 14

LAST UPDATE: 2017-06-24

Welcome to Morrowind, fellow Stamblades.

This update has some major changes in how we play our favorite character so without long introduction, let’s find out how to play Stamblade in a competitive endgame PvE environment.

When you read this, I already completed the new trial “Halls of Fabrications” in Veteran Hardmode with this build on live server so I can give you some insights how to approach the issues you will have to solve when starting to play Morrowind – namely sustain and survival.

We still have very good Single Target DPS – even boosted by the new CP star “Master-at-Arms” and the changes to Relentless Focus. And we still are pretty good when it comes to sustain thanks to Leeching Strikes.

I will go in depth into every aspect but I try to give a TL;DR; whenever I can to make the read as comfortable as possible for those guys who just want a quick overview without the boring details. If you have questions or found errors, please write a comment. I try to answer and explain everything.

Thanks to everyone who is contributing, especially to @Asayre who’s providing valuable maths for this guide and all raiding guilds who are constantly challenging me to become better.

This is not a PvP guide and while PvP is required to get some of the skills I suggest here, there are far better sources to check for PvP builds.

ATTENTION: You have to click on the SPOILER buttons to get all the information. I had to put those in for reasons of clarity and comprehensibility.

I. BUILD OVERVIEW

For this build, we will use Dual Wield and Bow as a tool to achieve a maximum DPS. In group content, your survivability relies on your ability to avoid/mitigate damage by clever movement, well balanced skill sets, experience and your healer/tank. For solo content, we rely on Vigor, Killer’s Blade and Leeching Strikes.

a) Advantages

  • Great single target DPS
  • Roguish play style
  • Very strong solo player character
  • Easy access with crafted gear which enables you to farm “Best in Slot” gear
  • Very rewarding as your DPS gets better and better the more you train
  • Works with all races

b) Disadvantages

  • Harder to master and not as forgiving as ranged and Magicka based builds (no shields)
  • Requires good movement, experience and coordination
  • Low AoE DPS compared to Magicka builds, low cleave damage compared to other Stamina classes
  • Can be hard to sustain especially for newer players
  • Can be hard to find a group/raid as Stamina user

II. RACE

TL;DR: Use Redguard

Morrowind is all about sustain and the more sustain you can get without having to adjust gear, skills, buff food or use extra Heavy Attacks, the better your total DPS will be. When Crit Damage Modifiers were nerfed in Homestead, Khajitt took a painful hit in terms of efficiency even in raids with solid Warhorn uptime. Next thing is: Redguard also benefits from not using vMA Dual Wield. What Khajiit has going on for them is that our Crit Damage Modifier increased due to how frontloaded the new CP System is. Khajiit is still a very good choice and wins in raw damage in optimized raids by a small margin while they lose by a small margin when it comes to solo play. Check the Spoiler for details.

All other races with Stamina based racial passives like Imperial, Orc, Bosmer and Dunmer work as well and the difference is pretty small.

[spoiler]

Solo, Redguard wins by 0.29% while in raids, Khajiit wins by 0.36%.

Redguard vs Khajiit in Morrowind

[/spoiler]

III. Consumables

a) Potions
The main DPS setup of this build uses potions (Essence of Weapon Damage) to get the Major Brutality (20% Weapon Damage), Major Savagery (10% Weapon Crit) and 20% Stamina Regeneration all the time without having to use Evil Hunter, Drain Power, Flying Blade or Momentum. To get 100% portion uptime, you have to skill the “Medicinal Use” passive in Alchemy. I use these potions for all Trials including Maelstrom Arena.

This is quite expensive for many players, so I will also show you ways to play without constant potion usage and save some money in situations where you don’t have to give 100%. Just be aware that if you want to squeeze out the last bit of DPS, you’ll have to have those potions available.

b) Food
Use blue CP 150 food (Braised Rabbit With Spring Vegetables) which provides Stamina and HP.

To craft it, you need Small Game, Greens, Seasoning

If you have serious sustain issues even with the tips I will provide when it comes to rotation, you can also use Dubious Camoran Throne which provides 319 Stamina Recovery, 3192 Stamina and 3511 HP. Might be interesting for races with HP bonus like Imperial. I personally dont use it but if you dont need the extra HP, its a nice addition to help sustaining. But try to make it work with the normal buff food first :)

To craft it, you need White Meat, Beetle Scruttle, Insect Parts, Guts

IV. Important Stats

HP: Get 16k for normal stuff, 17k for raids, 18k for hard modes.

Penetration: Get as close to 18.2k Penetration as possible with a balanced mix of Gear and CP. In the past, we relied on Armor Debuffs from the group like Alkosh or Crushing to get the boss armor value to 0. Now in Morrowind, we are able to get full penetration ourselves. This allows us to constantly deal maximum DPS without having to worry about debuff uptimes and it allows your tanks to wear better sets.

Other big factors that do not show up on the Stats Window are Crit Damage Modifier (especially for Khajiit) and “Special Buffs” like Monster Sets and vMA weapons.

Otherwise, we still want to get Weapon Damage, Weapon Crit and Stamina. Weapon Damage is especially valuable in Morrowind as it scales very well with Light and Heavy Attacks.

You dont have to be Werewolf or Vampire for this build. Vampire can help as you get 10% more Regen but there are situation where you will need to stay on Level 1 to make sure you’re not getting extra fire damage. If you play smart, it doesnt hurt to take the extra Regen.

V. Mundus Stone

TL;DR: Use the Thief

[spoiler]

If your Crit Damage Modifier is at least ~10% greater than your Critical Chance without any Mundus Stone, use the Thief.
Here is the exact equation. The Thief is better than the Shadow when:

This usually means that all races should run Thief. My Crit Chance without the Thief is 50,8%. My Crit Damage Modifier is 89%.
Crit Damage Modifier > 12/11 * Crit Chance
89% > 12/11 * 50,8%
89% > 55,4%

You can calculate your Crit Damage Modifier pretty easily:
First option: Hit a mob. Critical Damage / Normal Damage -1 (e.g. Light Attack does 2154 normal, 3964 crit. 3964/2154-1 = 0,84)
Second option: Base 50% + 10% Hemorrhage + 10% Beast Trap + XX% Precise Strikes= 89% / 100 = 0,84

[/spoiler]

VI. Champion Points

This is a big part of Morrowind as the Champion System got changed drastically. It’s a lot more frontloaded now, meaning the first 40-50 points are very valuable while after that, the efficiency diminishes big time. Also, the system completely ignores decimals. That means 12.1% increase in a star gives you the same benefit as 12.9%. The system rounds it down to the next even number. In my example, 12.1% and 12.9% both will give you 12% benefit. So keep that in mind when you allocate your CP and always use a number slightly above an even number.

There is also a bug currently regarding the red stars. You have to allocate the points in Elemental Defender and Hardy first, then apply changes, then set the rest of the red stars for full benefit.

For the 90 and 300 CP templates, I assume Sharpened weapons and no extra Penetration from gear. They are not perfect but provide a little help to see what stars are worth it.

Template for 90 Champion Points

  • Green – The Lover: 15 Mooncalf, 15 Tenacity
  • Red – The Steed: 9 Ironclad // The Lady: 7 Hardy, 7 Elemental Defender, 7 Thick Skinned
  • Blue – The Ritual: 11 Mighty, 8 Piercing // The Atronach: 11 Master-at-Arms

Template for 300 Champion Points

  • Green – The Lover: 43 Mooncalf, 43 Tenacity // The Shadow: 3 Tumbling, 11 Shadow Ward
  • Red – The Steed: 23 Ironclad, 1 Medium Armor Focus // The Lady: 23 Hardy, 23 Elemental Defender, 23 Thick Skinned //  The Lord: 7 Quick Recovery
  • Blue – The Ritual: 27 Mighty, 29 Piercing, 13 Precise Strikes, 11 Thaumaturge // The Atronach: 20 Master-at-Arms

Now the following Template is my current CP allocation calculated for my gear, skills and rotation in Raids. Red points can vary depending on the raid you do. This is kind of a “nice for anything” setup but can be optimized depending on what you do.

Template for 630 Champion Points

  • Green – The Lover: 75 Mooncalf, 75 Tenacity // The Shadow: 20 Tumbling, 20 Shadow Ward // The Tower: 20 Warlord
  • Red – The Steed: 61 Ironclad // The Lady: 49 Hardy, 49 Elemental Defender, 40 Thick Skinned //  The Lord: 11 Quick Recovery
  • Blue – The Ritual: 40 Thaumaturge,  49 Mighty, 52 Precise Strikes, 29 Piercing // The Atronach: 40 Master-at-Arms

[spoiler]

If you want to calculate your own optimal setup for blue stars, use this website of @Asayre: http://solinur.de/AsayreCP/CPOptimisation.html

I use the following Settings:

Damage done: 13 (5 from Minor Slayer + 8 from Minor Berserk)
Weapon Critical: Your Crit Chance with Minor and Major Savagery
Weapon Critical Modifer: 70 (50 base + 10 Hemorrhage + 10 Beast Trap) < You could add Major Force here if you know the uptime in your raid

Penetration:
Other: 5000 (TFS)

Damage Percentage:
Physical: 100% // Damage over Time: 52% // Weapon: 15% // Direct Damage: 33%

This Damage Percentage can be different for you but if you use the same skills and about the same gear, it will be kind of close.
Dont forget to click the Armor Debuffs that are available in your group. I used Major Fracture.

[/spoiler]

VII. Leveling

Since many players want tips to level up their Nightblades, I give you some general hints for that. Note that this guide is mainly focused on end game PvE so I will not go into too much detail here:

a) Gear

If you are lucky enough to get crafted gear, I suggest using this setup. It’s pretty solid and with all the training traits, you will level up really fast. Because of One Tamriel and the new scaling, it’s important to recraft this setup approximately every 10 levels. If you have only access to drop gear, try to have 1 heavy, 1 light and 5 Medium pieces all the time. The nice thing here is that you have the benefit of 2 5pc crafted sets as you can procc the Armor Debuff from NMG on your Bow bar and still have it active when you swap to DW, where the full Hunding’s Rage 5pc waits to help you kick some mobs :)

b) Skills

[spoiler]

DUAL WIELD

Killer’s Blade: [Assassination – Assassin’s Blade] Our main execute skill I use from 25% to 0%. Also an important part of the Nightblade heal mechanic as it restores HP on kill.

Surprise Attack: [Shadow – Veiled Strike] Surprise Attack is a superb skill that has great damage, provides Major Fracture and proccs the Shadow Barrier passive from the Shadow tree (Major Ward and Major Resolve). Also stuns when cast from sneak or invisibility. A perfect all-round skill.

Power Extraction: [Siphoning – Drain Power] Deals decent Damage, grants Major Brutality and as it is a Siphoning Ability, you gain Ultimate pretty fast. It also proccs the Axe bleed passive. Not quite as strong as Steel Tornado but because of the other benefits, the best choice for leveling up. Be aware that Drain Power is a Magicka Morph and deal pretty low damage. Only Power Extraction is a Stamina Morph.
REPLACEMENT: Until you unlock Power Extraction, using Steel Tornado [Dual Wield – Whirlwind] will work.

Reaper’s Mark: [Assassination – Mark Target] Our second heal on kill mechanic along with Killer’s Blade. Also a ranged Armor Debuff if you need to kite stuff. After the marked target dies, you gain a 25% damage buff for 5s. Perfect to kill groups really fast.
REPLACEMENT: Until you unlock Reaper’s Mark, Mirage [Assassination – Blur] is also nice.

Expert Hunter: [Fighter’s Guild – Base Skill] Grants 10% Crit Chance and 3% extra Weapon Damage. Never activate it. You dont need to morph it.
REPLACEMENT: Until you unlock Camouflaged Hunter, any Assassination Skill will do the trick.

Rend [Dual Wield – Lacerate] Awesome damage and heals you.
REPLACEMENT: Incapacitating Strike: [Assassination – Death Stroke] Very solid and cheap Ultimate.

BOW:

Relentless Focus: [Assassination – Grim Focus] 8% more damage plus additional Stamina Regeneration. This skill is really valuable. With Morrowind, you can now use Assassin’s Scourge multiple times without rebuffing. It’s basically damage without having to spend resources and it hits pretty hard now.

Poison Injection: [Bow – Poison Arrow] Great DPS especially from 50-0%. I keep it up all the time.
REPLACEMENT: Until you unlock Poison Injection unlocked, use Focused Aim [Bow – Snipe].

Endless Hail: [Bow – Volley] Insane AoE Dot that you should also keep up vs Single Target mobs. You can combine it with Bombard very well.

Bombard [Bow – Arrow Spray] Root groups of mobs while dealing damage from range or hitting single targets from the sides. Crowd Control is cool!
REPLACEMENT: If you want so kite a solo mob, you can also use Draining Shot [Bow – Scatter Shot].

Leeching Strikes: [Siphoning – Siphoning Strikes] This skill is redesigned. You gain a decent amount of HP back for every Light and Heavy Attack as well as some Stamina. After the buff runs out, you get a big chunk of Stamina back. This will surely help Stamina Nightblades to heal in combat when playing solo.

Flawless Dawnbreaker: [Fighters Guild –  Dawnbreaker] 5% more Weapon Damage (+3 from the passive), low cost, high physical damage.

In generel, if you dont have those skills yet, work towards it. The most important skills are Killer’s Blade and Surprise Attack. The rest will come step by step. Use the first 3 skill points to unlock the the first skills in each class tree.

[/spoiler]

c) Passives

In general, you want all relevant passives unlocked that might help you.
In this link, I selected all relevant active and passive skills you will need.

>> Build Planer for Leveling

The most important ones are:
Assassination: Hemorrhage // Shadow: Refreshing Shadows and Shadow Barrier // Siphoning: Catalyst and Transfer
All Dual Wield, Bow, Medium Armor and Racial Passives

d) Tricks

Healing via Killing: while we have limited options to heal directly in combat, we have strong “heal on kill” mechanics we can use to effectively kill groups of mobs. Mark the weakest mob in a group with Reaper’s Mark and start fighting. When you feel like you need healing, focus this mob down with Surprise Attack + Killer’s Blade. As soon as he dies, your HP will be full again. Then you can mark another target that is about to die.

Avoid damage: Stamina Nightblades are not heavy armored and we often cant just run into a group of mobs and brute force them down. We have a ton of tactical advantages. With Blur and it’s morphs, we can avoid 20% of incoming damage completely. Also we have Dark Shades or Mass Hysteria to reduce the damage of a mob by 15%. That’s cool already.

But how about avoiding 100%? Welcome to kiting! With a Bow, you can kite single mobs with Draining Shot and groups of mobs with Bombard as long as you have Stamina. Nice combo: Bombard and Endless Hail. Mobs stand still while hell rains down on them. You can also increase your Movement Speed with the Hasty Retreat passive from the bow line if you need to kite. While kiting, you can heal up with Leeching Strikes and gain some resources back.

Block and Dodge: Besides kiting, blocking and dodging heavy hitting attacks is really the key to survive. Whenever you block a heavy attack, make sure to to a heavy attack yourself to knock the opponent down. It doesn’t have to be fully charged. Just keep the button pressed for a second and use a skill (Medium Attack Weaving).

Open with a sneak attack on single targets: Sneak Attacks work on every Single Target attack from sneak that deals physical or poison damage as long as you stand behind your target. It deals 3.5x normal damage and stuns the mob. Most of the time, that gives you a substantial advantage. Also works with a bow heavy attacks or Poison Injection btw.

Adapt to your situation: If a mob or group is difficult, swap skills to counter them specifically.

VIII. First crafted Gear

So you finished leveling at Level 50, CP 160 and now you want to do group content and start getting better gear. The following is what you can craft to get started:

It also has the benefit of being able to use 2 crafted 5pc set bonuses by activating the NMG Armor Debuff on your bow bar and keep it after swapping to Dual Wield 5pc Hunding’s Rage. There are some nice drop sets you might have come across but imho, its not worth it farming those as this combo is already really strong and will enable you to farm the gear you really want right away.

If you cant buy Agility jewelry right away, use Endurance for the time being or farm a drop set jewelry like Leviathan, Spriggan or Defiler.

5Med-1Heavy-1Light will give you better stats but in my experience, sustaining is a lot harder. So I prefer going 7 Medium.

For skills you should use, just check the next sections.

IX. Group Content – Dungeons

This setup is designed to play undaunted pledges, 4-man dungeons. You don’t need to use “Essence of Weapon Damage” potions for this. Normal drop potions will be enough. This setup works also very well with 5 Medium, 1 Heavy (Chest) and 1 Light (Waist).

Penetration in Group: 100 [Base] + 5160 [Sharpened] + 5280 [Major Fracture] + 2618 [CP] + 2580 [NMG] + 1935 [Kra’gh] = 17673

a) Gear

REPLACEMENTS:

[spoiler]

For Night Mother’s Gaze:
(1) Two Fanged Serpent: 3 Medium, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants // Sharpened weapons
Just better in general but doesnt work well with weapons as you lose the penetration stacks when you are on your bow bar. That’s why I prefer using NMG. Drops in Sactum Ophidia.

(2) Hunding’s Rage: 3 Medium, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants // Sharpened weapons
Still works as replacement for virtually anything :) Craftable.

For Vicious Ophidian:
(1) Alkosh: Robust jewelry // 2 Medium, Divines Traits
The ultimate support setup with 5x NMG, 5x Alkosh. The Dot of the 5pc does very good AoE damage as well. Drops in Maw of Lorkhaj.

(2) Two Fanged Serpent: Robust jewelry // 2 Medium, Divines Traits
If you want to use this jewelry set, you most likely want to use Hunding’s Rage (not Spriggan or NMG) as the other 5pc set. Drops in Sactum Ophidia.

(3) Defiler: Robust jewelry // 2 Medium, Divines Traits
Dont have the set but the procc looks awesome on paper. Drops in Morrowind.

There are other 5pc sets available with jewelry that also work like Automaton, Briarheart, Poisonous Serpent, Defiler. The difference is pretty small. What you want is basically running 2 5pc sets.

For Kra’gh:
(1) Velidreth: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
If your target already has no armor left, Velidreth is the best choice. So count your total Penetration and check if you need Kra’gh. It’s also good in vMA, for AoE in general and if you have to move around a lot. Drops in Cradle of Shadows.

(2) Selene: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
Also a strong set for single target DPS mainly. Drops in Selene’s Web.

(3) Mephala: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
Mephala is a nice Stamina set as well, just not as strong as Kra’gh/Velidreth. The net is pretty small and you cant cast a new net while the old one is still in place which makes this set only really great in fights with no movement. Drops in Fungal Grotto II.

(4) 1 Kra’gh, 1 Velidreth: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
A possible combo to gain some extra raw stats. Kra’gh drops in Fungal Grotto I, Velidreth drops in Cradle of Shadows.

For Maelstrom Bow:
(1) Master’s Bow: Sharpened Trait
It’s still a decent choice considering with my setup, there is no way to incorporate this Weapon Slot in a set bonus. Drops in Veteran Dragonstar Arena.

(2) Night Mother’s Gaze: Sharpened Trait, Crushing Enchant
It’s pretty viable. Works until you get drop stuff. Craftable.

[/spoiler]

b) Skills

This is the skill set that works for people that are not interested in squeezing out the last bit of DPS in 4 player content like undaunted pledges. You dont need to use crafted potions with this setup.

[spoiler]

DUAL WIELD

Killer’s Blade: [Assassination – Assassin’s Blade] Our main execute skill I use from 25% to 0%.

Surprise Attack: [Shadow – Veiled Strike] Surprise Attack is a superb skill that has great damage, provides Major Fracture and gives you Shadow Barrier (Major Ward and Major Resolve). A perfect all-round skill.

Power Extraction: [Siphoning – Drain Power] Our AoE Spam Skill and source of Major Brutality. Alsoas a Siphoning Ability, you gain Ultimate pretty fast and it proccs the axe bleed passive. No need for Steel Tornado really if you don’t need the last bit of execute DPS.

Relentless Focus: [Assassination – Grim Focus] 8% more damage plus additional Stamina Regeneration. This skill is really valuable. Use Assassin’s Scource as often as possible. Aligns good with rebuffing Power Extraction.

Expert Hunter: [Fighter’s Guild – Base Skill] Grants 10% Crit Chance and 3% extra Weapon Damage. Never activate it. You dont have to morph it.

Flawless Dawnbreaker: [Fighters Guild –  Dawnbreaker] 5% more Weapon Damage (+3 from the passive), low cost, high physical damage. Also great vs Deadra and Undead.
REPLACEMENT: Rend [Dual Wield – Lacerate] If you need extra Healing along with nice damage, use this. Issue is that most mobs do not live for 18s, so you rarely get the full benefit out of it.

BOW:

Rearming Trap: [Fighter’s Guild – Beast Trap] Rearming Trap is a great single target Dot and our source of Minor Force.

Poison Injection: [Bow – Poison Arrow] Great DPS especially from 50-0%. I keep it up all the time. Try to Weapon Swap this skill so the dot scales with the stats of your Dual Wield bar.

Endless Hail: [Bow – Volley] Insane AoE Dot that you should also keep up vs Single Target mobs. Combined with the Maelstrom Bow, this is our strongest DPS skill.

Razor Caltrops: Strong Stamina based Dot, nice Area of Effect, 12s Duration, extremely expensive. Keep this buddy up 24/7 if possible. If you run into Stam issues, that’S the first skill to skip. Since Morrowind, multiple Stamina user can use Caltrops.
REPLACEMENT: Bombard [Bow – Arrow Spray] if you need to CC Trash/Adds or just want a good range AoE, use Bombard.
Focused Aim [Bow – Snipe] might also be an option sometimes if you cant melee for some reasons.
Resolving Vigor: [Assault – Vigor] Sometimes you have to take care for yourself, so having a heal is nice.

Leeching Strikes: [Siphoning – Siphoning Strikes] This skill is redesigned. You gain a decent amount of HP back for every Light and Heavy Attack as well as some Stamina. After the buff runs out, you get a big chunk of Stamina back. Helps to sustain.
REPLACEMENT: Mirage [Assassination – Blur] Get some defense up in case you need it.

Incapacitating Strike: [Assassination – Death Stroke] While executing, you can use Incap Strike to boost your final damage. Also you need an Assassination Skill on both bars because of the Hemorrhage passive.

[/spoiler]

c) Rotation

In every rotation, you should use Light Attack Weaving for every skill on bow bar, even buffs. On DW bar, you can restore Stamina by Heavy Attack Weaving as many Skills as nessessary to make sure you can sustain. I also block cancel or swap cancel the animation of most of my skills.

1) Buff Relentless Focus, Leeching Strike before the fight starts
2) Rearming Trap, Endless Hail, Razor Caltrops, Poison Injection, SWAP
3) (Power Extraction, Assassin’s Scourge/Relentless Focus) , Dawnbreaker/Rend, Surprise Attack until Endless Hail duration is ~2s remaining, SWAP
4) Rearming Trap, Endless Hail, Razor Caltrops, (Leeching Strikes] Poison Injection, SWAP
5) GoTo 3.

Only use the skills in Brackets if you need to recast them. Use Assassin’s Scourge whenever possible, but rebuff Relentless only if its about to run out. You can rebuff Power Extraction and Relentless together as it has the same duration. Let Leeching Strikes run out to get the full benefit.

Keep Buffs and Dots up and spam Surprise Attack in between. If your target is below 25%, you use Killer’s Blade instead of Surprise Attack.

X. Trials (12 player)

In a raid environment, you want to support your team rather than to go for your personal best performance. As the CP system is so frontloaded now, all dps can easily get full penetration on all trial mobs without support sets like NMG, Alkosh, Crushing Enchant. Both Stamina and Magicka users achieve full penetration with about 30 points into Piercing/Spell Erosion. In Halls of Fabrication, due to lesser Synergies and more movement, Alkosh uptime sucks anyways and Tanks can use other sets to help the group now.

In Halls of Fabrication, Stamblades can get a new way to support the group: War Machine Set!

With Incap Strike being such a cheap Ulti, Nightblades are very good at keeping Major Slayer up. You can even increase the uptime with Soul Harvest. I like Incap better as not all bosses feature adds or just a few ones.

a) Gear

This setup is designed for raids without Alkosh or Crushing Support.
Penetration in Raids: 100 [Base] + 5000 [TFS] + 5160 [Sharpened] + 5280 [Major Fracture] + 2618 [CP] = 18158

I use Double Sharpened to have equal Penentration on both bars and because I like Velidreth better in raids as it usually features adds.

You can also use a Infused Dual Wield Mainhand. You get 10-15% higher uptime for Berserker, much higher DPS with your Poison Glyph AND a Infused Mainhand applies on the Maelstrom Bow Enchant as long as you are on DW bar (Endless Hail will tick harder). To compensate, you can equip Kra’gh or use it if your raid runs Armor Debuffs like NMG, Alkosh, Crushing Enchant etc.

REPLACEMENTS:

[spoiler]

For Twice-Fanged Serpent:
(1) Night Mother’s Gaze : 5 Medium, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
NMG is like a little TFS. Not that much penetration but works for the whole group. If you are not the only Stamina DPS, consider that set. Craftable.

(2) Hunding’s Rage: 5 Medium, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
The classic set, very solid overall. Craftable.

For War Machine:
(1) Vicious Ophidian: 3x jewelry, Robust, Weapon Damage Enchants + Axe+Daggers, Sharpened, Poison + Berserker Enchant
VO is very valueable as sustain has become so much more important. Drops in Sanctum Ophidian.

(2) Spriggan’s: 3x jewelry, Robust, Weapon Damage Enchants + Axe+Daggers, Sharpened, Poison + Berserker Enchant
Also a nice substitute. Great if you are the only Stamina DPS in the raid. Drops in Bankorai.

(3) Automaton: 3x jewelry, Robust, Weapon Damage Enchants + Axe+Daggers, Sharpened, Poison + Berserker Enchant
Pretty good set now. About as good as Hunding’s Rage. Drops in Darkshade Caverns.

There are tons of possible setups for 2 5pc sets, its too much to list and rate them all.

For Velidreth:
(1) Kra’gh: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
It also works great, but make sure you do not stack too much penetration that way. Drops in Fungal Grotto I.

The new DSA offers a CP160 version of this bow. Drops in Veteran Dragonstar Arena.

You can also use the bow of the set your dual wield weapons are from.

[/spoiler]

b) Skills

Certain bosses require certain skills, but in general, this works. I will also list alternatives. This is the skill set I mostly use when playing end game raid content and anything that requires maximum DPS. You need to use Essence of Weapon Damage Potions all the time with this setup.

[spoiler]

DUAL WIELD

Killer’s Blade: [Assassination – Assassin’s Blade] Our Spam Skill from 25% to 0%.

Surprise Attack: [Shadow – Veiled Strike] Surprise Attack gives you great defense with Shadow Barrier (5280 Armor/Spell Resistance), Major Fracture and 3% more HP. With the addition of Master-at-Arms in the CP-System, this buddy can Rapid Strikes in terms of DPS.
REPLACEMENT: Rapid Strikes: [Dual Wield – Flurry] It’s cheaper, so it helps with sustain and the damage is great if you get another source of Major Fracture.

Rending Slashes: [Dual Wield – Twin Slashes] It is a great DOT which you have to keep up as much as possible. Like any DW Skill, it starts getting stronger against targets below 25%.
REPLACEMENT: Steel Tornado: [Dual Wield – Whirlwind] You can slot if for trash packs but most of the time, Adds die in cleave damage. So I prefer focusing on Single Target DPS.

Deadly Cloak: [Dual Wield – Blade Cloak] 25% AoE damage mitigation as well as a solid Dot with a long duration. Helps vs single and multiple targets.

Relentless Focus: [Assassination – Grim Focus]  8% more damage plus additional Stamina Regeneration. This skill is really valuable. Try to use the Assassin’s Scourge as often as possible.

Incapacitating Strike: [Assassination – Death Stroke] With Incap, you can get a solid uptime for your War Machine 5pc bonus. It’s like a Mini Standard of Might and you get insane burst whenever you use it. There are also reasons to use Soul Harvest to be able to boost the Major Slayer Uptime even more, but I will test that when I have my WM weapons. In vHoF, the adds I kill are not too many so the extra Ulti Regen is not that big of a deal. There are situations however, where you can boost your Ulti Regen greatly with Soul Harvest, making it possible to have really insane Major Slayer uptimes.
REPLACEMENT: Rend: [Dual Wield – Lacerate] Awesome Damage and heals you. If you dont have War Machine yet or need extra healing or need AoE – that’s a good choice.
Flawless Dawnbreaker: [Fighters Guild –  Dawnbreaker] 5% more Weapon Damage (+3 from the passive), low cost, high physical damage.

12s Duration works well with Trap and the new Caltrops.

REPLACEMENT: Resolving Vigor: [Assault – Vigor] Sometimes you have to take care for yourself, so having a heal is nice.

Mirage [Assassination – Blur] Get some defense up in case you need it. I mainly have it on my bar to have access to hemorrhage but it also saved my life quite a few times. It’s a semi flex spot in my build.
REPLACEMENT: Leeching Strikes: [Siphoning – Siphoning Strikes] This skill is redesigned. You gain a decent amount of HP back for every Light and Heavy Attack as well as some Stamina. After the buff runs out, you get a big chunk of Stamina back. Helps to sustain. If you use Leeching Strikes, you need to slot Incap Strikes as Ultimate.
Cleanse [Support – Purge] There are situations in vHoF where you need to purge dots yourself.

Flawless Dawnbreaker: [Fighters Guild –  Dawnbreaker] 5% more Weapon Damage (+3 from the passive), low cost, high physical damage.
REPLACEMENT: Incapacitating Strike: [Assassination – Death Stroke] If you dont have another Assassination Skill on that bar, you need Incap to access the Hemorrhage passive.

[/spoiler]

c) Rotation

I use Light Attack Weaving for every skill I use on the bow bar, even buffs. I also block cancel or swap cancel the animation of most of my skills.
To sustain, I use Heavy Attack Weaving for as many skills as necessary on the Dual Wield bar.

1) Buff Relentless Focus, Deadly Cloak, Mirage/Leeching Strikes before the fight
2) Rearming Trap, Endless Hail, Essence of Weapon Damage, Razor Caltrops, Poison Injection, SWAP
3) Surprise Attack, Rending Slashes, Incap Strike, Assassin’s Scourge, 2x Surprise Attack, SWAP
4) Rearming Trap, Endless Hail, Razor Caltrops, Poison Injection, SWAP
5) Keep your DW Dots up, use Assassin’s Scourge as often as possible and whenever Endless Hail is 2s from running out, swap to Bow and do 4)

The key is to keep Dots up and restore enough Stamina in the time where Incap is not up to make sure you can burst like a mad man when Incap is available. Try to time the rotation in a way that you can use Assassin’s Scourge 2x and prioritize the uptime of the bow bar dots as well.

Always Swap Cancel Poison Injection – that way the damage benefits from the Dual Wield bar.

Whenever every Dot/buff is running, you can use Surprise Attack or Killer’s Blade (in execute). While executing, you want to keep your bow bar Dots up but you dont need to reapply Deadly Cloak or Rending Slashes. You also want to keep up Relentless Focus to get Assassin’s Scourge proccs even when executing.

XI. Maelstrom Arena

TL;DR: This setup works for starters as well as experienced players. If you want to beat records, you will have to play a bit more risky and maybe skip the HP enchant and/or the heavy armor part and swap Leeching Strikes for Caltrops maybe. I personally completed vMA in Morrowind one time to check the difficulty with the new sustain system. I was baffled how easy it was. Leeching Strikes is so strong here, I have to use Vigor quite rarely now. The time was shitty but I had no issues whatsoever. Damage was better because of Master-at-Arms, but also the defense because of Iconclad and the additonal 5% damage reduction of Deadly Cloak.

The Maelstrom Arena is the only place left (I know of) where Mob Armor is not normalized, so every mob has an individual armor value. Therefor its hard to run a Penetration based setup without overdoing it at one mob type and not having enough on the other one. I tried to balance my approach. With my raid setup including 2618 Penetration from Piercing, I do have a decent amount already.

Boss Armor vMA:

If we calculate Penetration, we get 100 [base value] +5160 [Sharpened] + 2618 [CP] = 7878 as a standard penetration we always have even if we cant apply Major Fracture (AoE trash or ranged attacks). As the lowest armor value I found was 9.1k, we dont overdue it that was. Sidenote: In this scenario, Spriggan’s would still be superior as 5160+4000+100 = 9260 so we’re just slightly over the desired value…but only on DW bar and most stuff gets hit by bow first.

Now with Major Fracture applies, we add 5280 and get 13158. As I said, most mobs do have 12k or lower, so we’re pretty close here. Slightly too much but since we’re also have to deal with 18.2k Mobs from time to time, its okay. 1k over penetration means 2% DPS…still better damage wise than using TBS for example.

I think this will give experienced players a solid way to do vMA really fast. Remember that for learning vMA, I suggest using TBS as you might want some extra HP for that.

REPLACEMENTS:

[spoiler]

For Hunding’s Rage:
(1) Night Mother’s Gaze: 5 Medium, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
You are stacking a bit too much overall Penetration with this but if you already have that set and dont want to craft Hunding’s, thats okay. Craftable.

(2) Viper: 5 Medium, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
With the nerf to procc set in Update 13, this set is not as good anymore. But still works in vMA. Drops in Fungal Grotto.

For Vicious Ophidian:
It’s almost impossible to replace VO in vMA. It’s so good it’s hilarious. You get insane sustain and mobility plus very good DPS. It’s just…the best. If you need to replace VO, you have to adjust the build to fit your sustain needs. Especially if you are not a Redguard, you might need 1 Cost Reduction Glyph on your jewelry. You will definitely need Leeching Strikes.

(1) Leviathan: 3x jewelry, Robust, Weapon Damage Enchants + 2x Armor Pieces, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
Leviathan is solid as your DPS and Heals will crit a ton. Drops in Crypt of Hearts.

(2) 3pc Agility/Endurance + any 2pc: Robust jewelry, Sharpened Daggers

Agility has more punch, Endurance more survivability and sustain. I would prefer using a 5pc set, but this one also works. The 2pc weapon set should have +Weapon Damage as bonus. If you cant get that, use a crafted set with +Crit Chance.

(3) Defiler: 3x jewelry, Robust, Weapon Damage Enchants + 2x Armor Pieces, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
Dont have the set but the procc looks awesome on paper. Drops in Morrowind.

(4) Viper: 3x jewelry, Robust, Weapon Damage Enchants + 2x Armor Pieces, Divines Traits, Stamina Enchants
With the nerf to procc set in Update 13, this set is not as good anymore. But still works in vMA. Drops in Fungal Grotto.

For Velidreth:
(1) Kra’gh: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
It also works great, but the 2pc bonus proccs very often while running around which means it doesn’t hit anything. Great for bosses. Drops in Fungal Grotto I.

(2) Mephala: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
Mephala is a great Stamina set as well, just not as strong as Kra’gh/Velidreth. The net is pretty small and you cant cast a new net while the old one is still in place which makes this set only really great in fights with no movement. Drops in Fungal Grotto II.

(3) 1 Molag Kena, 1 Velidreth: Medium, Divines, Stamina Enchants
A possible combo to gain some extra Weapon Damage. Kena drops in White Gold Tower, Velidreth drops in Cradle of Shadows.

For Maelstrom Bow:
(1) Master’s Bow: Sharpened Trait
It’s still a decent choice considering with my setup, there is no way to incorporate this Weapon Slot in a set bonus. The new DSA offers a CP160 version of this bow. Drops in Veteran Dragonstar Arena.

(2) Hunding’s Rage: Sharpened Trait, Poison Enchant
As you run NMG Dual Wield anyways, using the bow as well seems obvious. Craftable.

[/spoiler]

b) Skills

[spoiler]

DUAL WIELD

Killer’s Blade: [Assassination – Assassin’s Blade] Our main execute skill I use from 25% to 0%. Also a great heal you definitely need.

Surprise Attack: [Shadow – Veiled Strike] In vMA, you need DPS AND survival. You want to use Surprise Attack for Major Fracture, Shadow Barrier and additional HP. Great Skill.

Deadly Cloak: [Dual Wield – Blade Cloak] The benefit of Deadly Cloak is for once the damage reduction for AoE effects but its also a nice AoE damage effect that can be applied before mobs spawn or while moving around, giving you some extra DPS.
REPLACEMENT: Ambush: [Assassination – Teleport Strike] Mobility is key in vMA. If you don’t have 5x Vicious Ophidian, this can help!

Steel Tornado: [Dual Wield – Whirlwind] I don’t use AoE a lot but sometimes, you need it.
REPLACEMENT: Rending Slashes: [Dual Wield – Twin Slashes] Especially vs bosses, Rending Slashes helps a lot to kill them faster. If you are quick, you can switch to Rending before every boss fight.

Resolving Vigor: [Assault – Vigor] Our main heal.

Rend: [Dual Wield – Lacerate] Extremely good ultimate for vMA. Very long duration Dot + heals you. You can skip Vigor for most bosses due to this. Only use it vs bosses as you usually will kill other stuff faster by using Incap Strike. Sadly, a lot of stuff dies so fast it’s almost not worth it nowadays
REPLACEMENT: Incapacitating Strike: [Assassination – Death Stroke] vMA has a ton of mobs that needs to die fast but Rend would be overkill.

BOW:

Rearming Trap: [Fighter’s Guild – Beast Trap] is great to place down on portals and helps a lot to burst down bosses. I also nails mobs down so they stay in your Arrow Barrage for a bit longer.
REPLACEMENT: Mirage: [Assassination – Blur] The extra defense you might need to survive.

Poison Injection: [Bow – Poison Arrow] A sick skill to combo with a heavy attack vs a spawning mob and to execute bosses really fast. Can also be a semi good ranged anytimer. Many Mobs die from a Heavy + Poison Injection.

Endless Hail: [Bow – Volley] Insane AoE Dot that you should also keep up vs Single Target mobs.

Leeching Strikes: [Siphoning – Siphoning Strikes] This skill is redesigned. You gain a decent amount of HP back for every Light and Heavy Attack as well as some Stamina. After the buff runs out, you get a big chunk of Stamina back. Helps to sustain and to survive.
REPLACEMENT: Razor Caltrops: Only use it if you are Redguard or really experienced with resource management.

Relentless Focus: [Assassination – Grim Focus] 8% more damage plus additional Stamina Regeneration. This skill is really valuable. I also like to use the Assassin’s Scourge procc whenever I run around, swap to my bow bar and see that it’s ready.

Incapacitating Strike: [Assassination – Death Stroke] vMA has a ton of mobs that needs to die fast but Rend would be overkill. Use this to burst down mobs like mini bosses or Deadroths in Stage 9.
REPLACEMENT: Ballista: [Bow – Rapid Fire] To burst down bosses even faster, this one is pretty awesome.

c) Starter Video

I made a video a while back showing how to clear it with crafted gear only. It doesnt reflect the new sustain issues in vMA but you can see mechanics and stuff. If you want to see flawless speedruns, check Andy S on Youtube.

XII. DPS SCreens and Videos

As always, I will add DPS screens over the time. We’re doing vHoF all the time currently testing new strategies so as soon as we got fixed strategies, we will focus more on DPS and I will give you some nice parses :)

DPS Dummy 3 Mio: 46.6k

Halls of Fabrication – Boss 1: Hunter-Killer Negatrix / Positrox: 54.4k AoE / 49k Single

Halls of Fabrication – Boss 2: Pinnacle Factotum: 32.6k

Halls of Fabrication – Boss 3: Archcustodian: 35.3k

Halls of Fabrication – Boss 4: Reducer, Reclaimer, Reactor: 36.7k

Halls of Fabrication – Boss 5: Assembly General: 35.7k

How Dots work

[spoiler]

What that means:

  • Second bar trait IS IMPORTANT as Penetration carries over from the bar you are on when the dots hit the target. So your dots will do more damage from a sharpened bow compared to another trait even on the dual wield bar.
  • Swap Canceling Poison Injection means the “Impact Bar” of Poison Injection is Dual Wield, which increases your dot damage for the whole duration.
  • If you cast a Beast Trap on your Bow bar but it activates on the DW bar, DW is the Impact bar.
  • If you cast a Poison Injection while Warhorn ran out and Warhorn gets applied afterwards, dot damage of PI will not increase.

Dagger vs Sword vs Mace

[spoiler]

A basic comparison between the weapon types. The more Armor Debuffs are applied, the worse Maces get because Armor Debuffs get substracted before the % based penetration of Maces apply.

[/spoiler]

Infused vs Sharpened?

[spoiler]

Why is Infused considered okay on Dual Wield Main hand?
Because it empowers the Glyphs of the main hand, off hand as well as the vMA Enchant that empowers Cruel Flurry.

Here is a spreadsheet.

[/spoiler]

What proccs Axe Bleed?

[spoiler]

Does procc it:

  • Rending Slashes Initial hit
  • Killer’s Blade
  • Ambush
  • Surprise Attack
  • Power Extraction
  • Incapacitating Strike

Doesnt procc it:

  • Rapid Strikes
  • Rending Slashes DoT
  • Deadly Cloak
  • Steel Tornado
  • Flying Blade

[/spoiler]

Surprise Attack vs. Rapid Strikes

[spoiler]

TL;DR: Surprise Attack has more benefits. It does more damage with my CP Setup, allows you to weave faster which means potentially more Assassin’s Scouge Proccs and definitely more Axe Bleed Proccs (Surprise Attacks procc it as well, while Rapid Strikes does not). Surprise Attack also gives you Shadow Barrier. Rapid is just easier to sustain.

What are Elemental Status Effects and how to apply it?

[spoiler]

There are more Status Effects than the Elemental based ones, like CC effects for example. This part only covers Elemental Status Effects as they are the most relevant ones when it comes to DPS.

Elemental Status Effects are secondary effects applied by using Skills that deal some sort of elemental damage (fire, frost, lightning). Since Patch 2.1, the chance to apply an Elemental Status Effect is as following:

  • Weapon enchants 20%
  • Standard ability 10%
  • Area of effect abilities 5%
  • Damage over time abilities 3%
  • Area of effect damage over time abilities 1%

This is also true for Poison Damage, proccing a Status Effect called “Poisoned” which is a DoT that ticks 7 times (12s duration).
You can increase the chance to apply Elemental Status Effects by a Destruction Staff passive called Elemental Force or by using a Weapon with “Charged” Trait.

Elemental Status Effects are:

  • Concussion: The most important one. Applies Minor Vulnerability. 8% increased damage on the target from all sources for (4s duration)
  • Burning – Applies Flame DoT, 3 ticks (3s duration)
  • Chilled – Applies Minor Maim. 15% damage reduction from the target (5s duration)

(15) What’s the difference between Armor Debuffs and Penetration?
(16) How do you get away with so low health?
(17) What are CP Jump Points and why should I care?

[spoiler]

(1) Can I run X skill instead of Y?
Sure! My guide is a general framework that works in most cases, but if you feel you need another skill in a certain situation, you can surely swap around stuff and look if it works better for you.

(2) Why do you have more/better/less/worse stats than me?
First off, I’m a Redguard, which means I get 10% extra Stamina but no HP bonus like Imperials or +Crit like Khajiit. Also, I have maxed Champion Points. Every Champion Point you spend gives you extra stats until 300 CP (Red= HP, Green = Stamina, Blue = Magicka). My Gear is completely upgraded to legendary.

(3) How do I get 17k HP? Should I use Prismatic Enchants?
With maxed CP, you can get 17k with 1 HP Setbonus like TBS or running 5/1/1 with any set that doesn’t have a set bonus. Don’t use Prismatic Enchants in PvE. They are expensive and only beneficial if you have a good use from Magicka, which we dont have in PvE. Rather have 1 large piece with HP enchant.

(4) Why is my damage so low compared to yours? I have the same gear and the same skills!
First off, DPS is a group effort. If you don’t have a good team, your DPS will be lower by default. Also, this is my build I practiced A TON to play it the way I do. Don’t get discouraged if you cant compete with my DPS on the first try…or the first week. Practice your rotation, your light and heavy attack weaving and your block canceling. Also learn the encounters you are facing. The better you know the boss you’re fighting, the more you can concentrate on your DPS and less on the environment.

(5) Why have you thrown away your maces?
Sharpened is just so strong, there is no need to run a mace anymore in PvE. Also you can stack a ton of Armor Penetration. The third reason is that the 10% penetration of Maces get applies AFTER Armor Debuffs. So you’ll get a really low benefit especially in raids.

(6) Why not a sword?
Swords do not compare to daggers anymore. With all the Crit Damage Modifiers we have now, 5% extra crit increases our damage more than the 2.5% extra damage you get from swords. In PvP, swords and maces are still better than a dagger because you cant crit on Damage Shields and everyone runs Impenetrable.

(7) All Divines? Why not Infused on the big pieces?
While it depends on the Mundus Stone you use, I calculated that for the Shadow, Thief and the Warrior Mundus, Divines gives me more DPS than Infused, even on big parts. Not much else to say.

(8) 5/1/1 or 7 Medium?
I prefer 7 medium since you gain a lot of sustain. If you need extra HP or maybe even additional Armor and Spell Resistance you get from the heavy chest piece, 5/1/1 works as well. You just need more Heavy Attacks. In raids, I would always try to run 7 Medium.

(9) Can I play bow as main weapon with this build?
There are actually quite a few options to run a bow build now. While bow works with the gear I use, It’s not necessarily the best. This build is designed for melee combat mainly.

(10) What about the Procc Sets like Viper?
The nerf to Procc Sets in Update 13 killed Viper and Red Mountain for PvE.

(11) What Addons do you use?
Here is a Screenshot of my UI with the most important Addons displayed.

(12) How much armor does a mob have?
Since One Tamriel, all monsters in dungeons and trials do have 18.2k armor. Trash as well as all bosses. That includes vDSA. Monster in the normal upper world, as well Delves and Public Dungeons, do have 9.1k now. That means for questing, it’s pretty easy to cap penetration by only using Sharpened weapons plus a Major Fracture defuff from Surprise Attack or Reaper’s Mark. vMA is the only exception to that rule. Mobs there still have individual armor values. Most of them have 12k or less, though. The max is 18.2k as well.

(13) Why Sharpened weapons? Can I use Infused/Precise?
The DPS increase of Sharpened is almost double the amount a Precise weapon offers and it’s a great way to gain Penetration. Thanks to strong Sets like TFS, Kra’gh and the new frontloaded CP system, its also possible to allocate CP in a way to compensate and use a Infused weapon or even a Precise one. I got about the same Single Target DPS with a Infused Weapon and Kra’gh compared to Sharp Weapons with Veli. Its up to you.

(14) Why does Penetration offer such a high DPS increase compared to other stats like +Crit Chance?
Did you ever think about why stats are the way they are in ESO? Why a Weapon Damage Setbonus gives more DPS than a Stamina Setbonus for example or in this case, why Penetration is better than crit?

It’s fairly simple from a developer point of view. If you compare Stamina with Weapon Damage: Weapon Damage only buffs your Damage, while Stamina buffs your Damage AND gives you a higher Stats Pool which allows you to fight longer AND has more defensive uses (Block/Dodge). So if Stam and Weapon Damage Set boni would give the same amount of DPS, Stamina would be superior as it has added benefits.

Penetration is a even more complex thing. While Stam/WD do buff your defense as your heals with Vigor are also increased for example, Penetration doesnt have a defensive part. Its “just” offense. And it has a HARD CAP, which means you cant stack it infinitely like Stam/WD.

Crit also has a hard cap, but it’s way harder to reach than Penetration. Also, like Stam/WD, crit also buffs your defense and has great synergies in groups.

So its only natural that from all damage increasing components, Penetration has the highest amount of restrictions and therefor grants the highest DPS bonus.

(15) What’s the difference between Armor Debuffs and Penetration?
Armor Debuffs do reduce the target’s armor, which means everyone who hits that target does more damage. Penetration only works for yourself.
Armor Debuffs apply BEFORE percentage based penetration is calculated, so if you run a mace (10% penetration), it doesnt penetrate 10% of the targets real armor but 10% of (Armor – Armor Debuffs).

Examples of Armor Debuffs: Major/Minor Fracture, Crushing, 5p Alkosh bonus, 5p Night Mother’s Gaze bonus, 5p Sunderflame bonus
Examples of Penetration: Sharpened weapons, 1p Kra’gh bonus, 5p Spriggan bonus

(16) How do you get away with so low health?
Ebon Armor and constant Warhorn in a raid group helps a lot, especially if you don’t run TBS or a monster set with +HP bonus. Other than that, it’s a ton of practice and knowing when you have to be careful. The better you understand a mechanic, the less HP you need as you usually die because of bad positioning or other small errors in your play.

(17) What are CP Jump Points and why should I care?
The new CP system doesnt care about decimals. That means for example that 12.1% and 12.9% both increase your value by 12%. Everything gets rounded down. So you have to make sure to allocate your CP in a way that you always have a number slightly higher than a full number like 12.1%.

Part of the 4 Roles, left – right; Magicka DD – Tank – Melee DD and Healer

Note: I am editing this guide daily for new finds on how to improve this build, therefore if you’re kind enough to bookmark this guide you can come back and refer to it every so often and hopefully gain some more new tips that I add. Thanks.

EDIT: 18/06/2017 – added 2 new rotations for those struggling to sustain in trial environments and long fights.

Introduction and Thoughts / Comparison to other Class DPS.

Hello and welcome to By The Beard of Zeus, the ruler of Olympus’ guide to Stamina Templar damage in the new harsh sustained horizon of Morrowind. This guide will completely replace the old Homestead one I made as pretty much nothing is the same anymore. The build, rotation and CP is all so very different a new edition was needed. I have had a lot of help from members of my raiding guild with this build so I would like to credit them all along the way as needed.

As of 30/05/2017 I am seeing so many people and guides out there putting out “dummy humpers”, and by that I mean builds specifically designed to hit high on a test dummy so they can circle jerk and measure themselves by linking higher numbers. This is not the aim of Zeus. I am primarily a raider and everything I do is with group content in mind. Therefore don’t leave comments saying “this is higher DPS gear” yes I know, Kragh is better solo, but not in a group etc and the rotation is simpler to allow for greater reactions in trials environments. The new raid is very harsh in terms of incoming damage and therefore strolling in with a dummy humper will see you absolutely destroyed. Dead DPS = No DPS.

From recent tests and hanging around by dummies with guild mates, it seems Stamina is a lot better at attaining single target DPS than magicka this patch at the cost of AoE and potential survivability. The parses linked in this guide are attained with extremely little buffs when other classes have little bonus’ e.g. Minor Brutality DK, Minor Savagery NB and Magicka shock damage proc’ing minor vulnerability and potentially off-balance. I would also like to say that even if you take away all the DPS number humping and crunching, this character is extremely fun to play, which at the end of the day is all this game is really about. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

On a final note, this guide is just as much for beginners as it is end game veterans so please do not be offended if I’m saying some really obvious things, just skim read and ignore. This also applies to anything you may think is beyond your current level of playing, don’t worry, ignore it or leave a comment and build on it at a later date, the game is not a rush and many people advance at different paces, many thanks.

The Basics

The food we are using is either a choice of Dubious Camoran Throne drink for sustain but less damage or the old HP and Stamina food for damage, but less sustain. We are using the Thief Mundus stone and all passives are bought for the 3 class skill lines and DW/Bow lines too. Don’t forget to buy the fighters guild passives as well. Also don’t forget to read the whole guide in case you missed something important, usually questions I get asked are displayed in the guide somewhere.

Race

The race is even less of a concern with the release of Morrowind than it has ever been before. I am a Redguard in this build because it is what my character has always been. However you can now go for whatever you want. The Redguard passive Adrenaline Rush is now only 792 Stamina every 5 seconds which is nearly half what it used to be in my Agility set up Homestead. Therefore choose what you want, Redguard, Khajiit, Orc, it doesn’t matter as long as their passives generally relate to stamina orientated things. (Obviously don’t be Plebbicus and be a Stamina High Elf or something, pls.)

The benefits of each viable class are as follows; In my opinion the best. (Just my opinion)

1.) Redguard

- 792 Stamina back every 5 seconds = 158 Stamina Recovery in essence.

- 9% Stamina Recovery

- 10% Maximum Stamina

Notes: My favourite for looks and a good mixture of sustain and damage, even if it’s not as good as it used to be it still boasts the most viable class option to play.

2.) Orc

- Max Health and Stamina by 6%

- Healing Received by 5% and Health Recovery 20%

- 4% Melee attack damage, reduced sprint cost by 12% and increased sprint speed by 10%

Notes: These can also look really badass with the Spiderkith skin from vCoS and boast a healthy pool to health and stamina. This is very important if you choose to use sustain food as you will have to enchant your armour to buff your HP up. This will lessen the need for those glyphs and will increase the amount of stamina you can put back on. The 4% melee attack damage will affect your light and heavy attacks as well as rending Slashes, Re-arming Trap and Biting Jabs.

3.) Wood Elf

- 21% Stamina Recovery

- Max Stamina by 6% and poison and disease resistance by 1465.

- Reduces Stealth detection radius by 3m and Stealth damage by 10%

Notes: I decided to put this controversially as 3rd ahead of the Khajiit for a reason. In my DPS tests I found myself thinking the whole time “Man if I had the sustain from last patch I’d hit like such a truck” and that’s why the Wood Elf jumps up places in this patch for me. The 21% recovery is insane, couple that with the new sustain food and you’ll be laughing, maybe so much so you will barely need to heavy.

Fashion Scrolls notes: They have the potential to look like shit so be careful, gotta look like swag out on the battlefield.

4.) Khajiit

- Healthy Recovery 20% and Stamina Recovery 10%

- Reduce Stealth detection radius by 3m and Stealth damage by 10%

- 8% Weapon Critical rating.

Notes: Just because this is 4th doesn’t mean it’s not as good, I just prioritised different things. This race is your Omega Daddy of damage, 8% weapon critical is absolutely monstrous however leaves you wanting in terms of max resource pools and mediocre recovery. If you can sustain this bad boy though it hits amazing. The problem is, you can’t.

Fashion Scrolls notes: These can look fucking cool with the Dro M’athra skin and the face slider all the way maxed out on Heroic.

Champion Points

Blue Constellation:

61 – Thaumaturge

64 – Mighty

44 – Precise Strikes

21 – Piercing

20 – Master at Arms

Green Constellation:

20 – Warlord

75 – Mooncalf

75 – Tenacity

20 – Shadow Ward

20 – Tumbling

Red Constellation:

52 – Ironclad

49 – Hardy

49 – Elemental Defender

48 – Thick Skinned

11 – Quick Recovery

1 – Spare add to any.

(Thanks to @iJonno for the red CP arrangement)

If you’re not maximum champion points take your current champion points and divide it by 630. Then multiple the value by each of the values I described above to get how much you should put into each tree. Adjust values in the trees to make your number as close to .00 as possible as anything decimal above an integer is rounded down. So for example I have 356 Champion points, divide by 630 = 0.565 and I want to put points into elemental defender which is 50. Times the 2 together to make 28.25 points into ED which gives you 7.28% in the tree. I would round down to 27 points to get 7.07% and save the extra point to round other trees up to balance it out. It will take a lot of tweaking but is the only real option I have to altering the set up for non CP630 builds.

Gear and Item Set ups

[img]http://i.imgur.com/JGHNJC3.png[/img]

Ok so we are using 5x Twice Fanged Serpent, 2x Velidreth and 5x Hundings Rage with 1x Maelstrom Bow. The real beauty of this build is that you can use player crafted daggers, which as we all by now know it is pure agony to farm content for months to get weapons to a set. It also means you can choose your own style on most of the armour and weapons so you don’t look like a pleb while roaming Tamriel. The critical strike rate from Hundings is just raw power as well it is lovely.

EDIT: 19/06/2017: I actually need to test Selene’s as I’ve heard from people it’s actually really good on a Stamplar, this being said I think Veli will out perform it in fights with Adds as the proc can hit up to 3 targets.

Alternatives: I understand not everyone has access to all this gear so here are some viable alternatives;

-5x Spriggans, 1k penetration lower than TFS but is cheap as fuck to buy.

-5x Vicious Ophidian, For extra sustain and minor slayer.

-5x Alkosh, terrible DPS since it can’t crit but is nice group buff if your tanks don’t wanna wear it.

-5x Night Mother’s Gaze

-5x Strength of The Automaton

-2x Kragh (Careful not to overpenetrate in group content)

-2x Selene’s, Good dps and looks really cool when a bear proc’s. (fashion scrolls #1 choice)

[img]http://i.imgur.com/4UcNiy4.png[/img]

This is not the best setup for Morrowind I need to add. To get the best DPS you need 2x War Machine daggers in sharpened, which you’re looking at this and thinking “oh fuck that, not another vMoL grindfest, I thought I was free!”. You are gonna need to slave away nHoF my friends. However you hit pretty hard using this setup so do not worry. War Machine will be the undisputed meta once everyone has it in good traits and I’ll explain why with the rotation.

Also don’t use vMA DW this patch, before they were better but now since you need to heavy in your rotation to sustain you can’t keep up the Rapid Strikes – DoT combo enough. You also break a 5 piece by using them and lose out on 2 enchantments on your DW. When combining sets together try keep to the 5-5-2 combo. By that I mean 2x 5-piece sets and a 2-Piece Monster Set. The more sets you mix in the lower your dps will be.

If you don’t have a vMA bow please use a masters, failing that a sharpened player crafted Hundings, this will mean that you make your bow bar 4 piece Hundings and not 3, dampening the DPS loss blow from not using a vMA bow. I cannot stress enough how important the MA bow is, if you don’t have it, get it before anything else on this entire guide, the DPS is so damn high it’s great. The traits for Masters/MA bows are as follows.

Sharpened > Precise > Nirnhoned > Infused > Any vMA bow > Master Bows > Use Hundings Sharpened.

With the release of Morrowind and the increased power of the vMA bow you can actually use any trait vMA over a sharpened masters, it’s better dps.

Enchant all Jewellery with Weapon Damage, if you need sustain use the food not glyphs. If you still can’t sustain, heavy some more. ZoS Approved.

Now when calculating which monster set and traits to use you really have to ask questions of your tanks and other members debuffs. The general resistance for most trial monsters and bosses, including the dummy, is 18,200. This number will make you able to add all the debuffs up. The thing’s that give resistances debuffs are as follows.

- Major Fracture, 5280

- Crusher / Infused / Infused + Torug’s Pact, 1622, 1946, 2530.

- Minor Fracture, 1320

- Alkosh, 3010

- Night Mother’s Gaze, 2580

- Sunderflame, 3240

- Sharpened Weapons, 2580 or 5160 for 2H / DW.

- Kr’agh Monster Set, 1935.

- Twice Fanged Snake – 5000

Total = 30,055. This is why it’s important to add stuff up and not over penetrate, however don’t worry realistically you won’t ever have Sunderflame or Torugs enhanced Crusher. Therefore I recommend the only thing you need to not do in group content is wear Kr’agh. Yes your dummy parse will be worse but this is about the greater good. Also if you are lucky enough to have someone running Night Mother’s Gaze, then switch to one Precise Dagger, however be prepared for unavoidable over penetration on your bow bar.

A big question a lot of inexperienced players might be thinking is “Why is it so important to not over penetrate?”. Because simply you’re wasting damage. Don’t make something that’s purposefully not optimal, it’s a waste of the already large amount of time needed to build your character up. If you have excess penetration swap to precise weapons or sets with more raw power such as Hunding’s Rage or Twice Born Star.

Make your armour types 6-1-0. 6 Medium, 1 Heavy with your heavy piece being your chest for maximum resistances. Why heavy? because we get 2% max health and stamina from the Undaunted Mettle passive as well as an additional 2% HP from Heavy Armour passives making one piece 4% more HP over the 1.5% critical you’d get from a piece of medium, tit for tat, choose what works best for you, but this is what I prefer to make myself more survivable. If you choose to run TBS for various reasons you can go 7 medium as the set comes with an inherent HP passive.

Abilities and bar order

Bar one – Duel Wield (Put these in any order on your bar it doesn’t matter)(Icons are on the SuperStar photo above)

1.) Re-Arming Trap

2.) Blade Cloak

3.) Biting Jabs

4.) Rending Slashes

5.) Power of the light

Ultimate: Flawless Dawnbreaker

Bar Two – Bow back bar

1.) Restoring Focus

2.) Endless Hail

3.) Poison Injection

4.) Razor Caltrops

5.) Repentance

Ultimate: Crescent Sweep (why War Machine will be best in slot, 72 cost Ultimate)

For Raids: MAKE SURE TO KEEP CLOAK UP 100% AND YOUR RUNE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. During trials these need to be up 100% so fit them into your rotation even if it means a DPS loss. The cloaks 25% AoE damage reduction is ludicrously powerful as well as the runes 8% damage reduction (not stackable with circle of protection). These got a buff with Morrowind to the point I feel safer on this Stamina character in trials than my shield spamming Sorc and healer.

Rotation, Parses and Damage

Rotation Video: https://youtu.be/C1HpO1oKotM

EDIT 19/06/2017: The rotation video is horrendously out of date and is far from optimal.

You have two options with rotations, the “I don’t care about my stamina, burst pls” and the “infinite sustain”.

If you’re looking at a one minute fight and you wanna rip a juicy parse or for example you enter a bosses execute phase with full resources and need to nuke then you would use this rotation:

LA / Hail / LA / Caltrops / LA / Ulti / BS / LA / RS / LA / PotL / LA / Trap / LA / Jabs / LA / Jabs / LA / Jabs / LA / PotL / BS / Repeat

Use Poison inject below 50% and as the last skill you cast on your bow bar.

You’ll also hit like a train for the duration

[img]http://i.imgur.com/nlee1Ih.png[/img]

The key to getting high numbers in parses with this however relies on your ability to weave correctly. You also NEED to light attack on your bow bar to proc the Hawk Eye passive increasing the damage of your bow abilities by 5% for each light or heavy attack stacking up to 5 times.

Below 50% add Poison Injection after Caltrops and after Ultimate if ready, this is to make sure all poison injection ticks are on your DW bar.

This will mean you can proc Hawk Eye 4 times without destroying your rotation. Light attacks also deal massive damage so light weave as much as possible anyway. I also see people doing 2 light attacks in a row to increase the uptime on Hawk Eye, do not do this, it is a DPS loss.

Morrowind Bubble Wrap infinite sustain rotations:

Duel Wield: LA / Hail / LA / Caltrops / LA / Ulti / BS / HA / RendSla / HA / PoTL / HA / Trap / HA / Jabs / LA / Jabs / LA / PoTL / BS / Begin from start.

2H: LA / Hail / LA / Caltrops / LA / Ulti / BS / HA / Brawler / HA / Trap / HA / Jabs / HA / PoTL / BS / Begin from start

Below 50% add Poison Injection after Caltrops and after Ultimate if ready, this is to make sure all poison injection ticks are on your DW bar.

HA = Heavy Attack      BS = Bar Swap

LA = Light Attack        PoTL = Power of the Light

RendSla = Rending Slashes (captain obvious)

If using these rotations you can literally play any race, the sustain from Redguard isn’t needed so be a High Elf for all I care, this is your chance to roleplay as anything without worrying about performance. However to fully take advantage of the extra sustain be a Khajiit or Orc for maximum damage.

To prove this works I killed the 52,000,000 Target Centurion on my own with no extra help or buffs to prove a point.

[img]http://i.imgur.com/UC2sLmJ.png[/img]

Next person to give me the excuse that they’re hitting too low because of sustain or Morrowind nerfs gets a slap on the wrist ;)

Parses for 3m and 6m Dummys are as follows for the burst / stamina dump rotation. The only buff I got was Major Fracture since Stam DKs get it from Noxious Breath and it makes it easier to compare. For a list of specific buffs each class gets look below, this will make it easier to compare. Also don’t be discouraged when you see another class hit higher than you, it’s probably because they have different buffs which is so often the case with Stamplar.

Stamina:

Dragonknights: Noxious Breath (Major Fracture 5280 Physical Penetration) Earthen Heart (Minor Brutality 5% Weapon damage).

Nightblade: Surprise Attack (Major Fracture 5280 Physical Penetration) NB Passives (Minor Savagery 3.1% Weapon Critical) and Minor Berserk (8% Damage Done). This is why you’ll see Nightblades hitting 45-46k dummys. Don’t be discouraged, minor berserk is given by combat prayer from healers in raids so you’ll get it too.

Templar: Minor Fracture (1320 Physical Penetration)

Sorcerer: Nothing.

Magickas will get off-balance if their elemental blockade is lightning. This is important because 75 points into the ritual tree gives a 10% damage boost to enemies that are off-balance. Shock damage also Proc’s the lightning status effect “Minor Vulnerability” which is a further 8% damage done.

With all this is mind it is essential that you try to equal up the buffs if you want to know how well you’re doing against other players and take their parses with a pinch of salt when you know what buffs they are getting.

On an average mix between the 2 rotations you can expect to hit roughly

[img]http://i.imgur.com/irmiKG7.png[/img]

When comparing with magDks and Sorcs with shock and off balance I feel like this parse was necessary. This is with Fracture and off balance [Needs updating]

[img]http://i.imgur.com/AK0uicB.png[/img]

I’m still working on Trial parses however since our guild is working tirelessly to improve our Halls of Fabrication score we are not able to park a boss and link a good parse. It’s mechanics > DPS for now and I will update it as soon as I get the chance. However if you hit this high on a dummy then in a raid with Minor Vulnerability, Combat Prayer, Major Force, Horn resources, Minor Brutality and Savagery you should easily hit 50k+ Single Target if you don’t die and don’t fuck up your rotation, easier said than done, but aim for the stars.

Remember since Stamplars don’t have a form of Major Brutality you need weapon power potions or a DK with igneous weapons. However weapon power pots are 45 each on the EU Megaserver, so no excuses for those cheap shit potions you find on the ground in pledges.

Honourable Mentions

-@GethemShauna – Guild Clubhouse.

Armor / Damage Reduced

So, I’ve been picking up tanking and trying to figure out some of the ‘end game’ mechanics for soaking Damage.

My Guilds tank insists that all resists are capped at 50% total mitigation, and that effects that ‘Reduce damage’ (such as CP, Minor Protection etc…) are included in that 50%.  My testing, and all the builds I see online seem to treat these two sides as Separate; i.e. max Armor at 32.5k Armor, and still put points in CP into reducing Damage.

Anyone have any input on how damage soak / mitigation actually works?  My suspicion is that Damage Reduced, and Physical / Spell Resists are two separate effects, not one combined for a max 50%, but I can’t find an article on that here.

If you get crit from pots swap EH for trap. Less damage round use caltrops over crit surge.

My crit surge tool tip says it heals for 3k a second.
This build is so easy you will be kicking yourself you didn’t try this earlier! (after rapid strikes change)
I don’t even have undaunted.

If I did, would of had 40k stamina easily and more health!
I do recommend using speed pots. Really changes the way you have to play since we do not use a gap closer. If you can not use speed pots. Use Weapon Crit+Stamina+Health. and drop evil hunter off bar and put trap there.
Hope you guys enjoyed this.

 Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my nightblade guide! First and foremost, I’d like to say a little bit of who I am, to give you a little bit of insight into my knowledge about this game. I’ve been raiding with Hodor for around two years now, and I’ve been playing nightblade for the most part, but also quite a fair bit of dragonknight, and sorcerer. I’ve gotten some parses on certain bosses that I’ve felt very good about, and feel the builds that I produce have alot of potential in them, which I again think reflects on the leaderboards. For the past six months or so, I’ve completely left nightblade, but I’ve picked it up as of this patch with the recent changes I’ll be talking about later in the build. Keep in what is written in this build is still subject to change, and my tests are not finalized. Without further adue, lets just jump into the build!

Core

So, this is our bread and butter! Lets start from the top, which alot of people will ask, why not use Llambris combined with lightning clench? Simply put, it’s not more DPS. Valkyn Skoria and Grothdarr will provide much better results in terms of damage. The choise between Skoria and Grothdarr is something I need to test further, but as of now I’d highly suggest to have them both and switching dependant if the boss fight allows you to stay in melee range, or if you need to stay ranged. If you’re lazy, just stick with Skoria.

Onto our mainset, scathing mage! Alot of nightblades love this set, simply because it procs of Twisting Path’s DoT effect, allowing you to get an extremely high uptime thus giving you a high ammount of spell damage, and spell crit. Optional sets here could be Twice Born Star and using the thief and the shadow, which will give you a little bit less DPS, but still something that you can compete with. Julianos is also an alternative.

For the jewelry and our mainhand, we want to use the same set so we can benefit of four set bonuses, minmaxing our stats as best as we can. In my case, im running Infallible Aether, but Moondancer will provide the same results if not better. Sharpened is a MUST. On our offhand, we will be using a maelstrom staff, im still testing abit with lightning or inferno, but as of right now I prefer lightning. Both works, but having a lightning staff on trashpacks is essential.

These are the stats you can expect with using the sets that I am using, completely unbuffed. Nothing too fancy, just the usual.

Mundus Stone

The Thief
We will be using the thief for extra spellcrit in this build, having more crit with a high aggressive warhorn uptime, and crit modifiers such as trap beast, is gonna help us out alot.

Skills

Lets talk about the skills abit, there’s alot of potential changes come here, so stay updated. Our mainbar is what we can call our buffbar, we’ll be having merciless resolve alongside with siphoning attacks, and our shield which can be swapped out with the likes of trap beast or destructive clench if you’d like that. The spammable is something im still testing, but as of now I’ll be using swallow soul as it’s way cheaper. We will NOT be using soul assault as our ultimate, but we will be using elemental rage instead to benefit from ancient knowledge.

On our second bar, it’s gonna be our AoE, execute and DoT bar. I really like having these skills on the same bar, as it gives us alot of advantages such as a clean rotation (Path 11s, Blockade 8s, Cripple 8s) it allows us to not swap bars whatsoever when we’re executing and AoE’ing, making this build very clean and simple to play.

Champion Points

Thanks to @Magna-G and @xBlackroxe for the help here, this spread was mainly put together by @xBlackroxe.

Use this spread if your group has more than two blockade of storms

The Apprentice

– 40 Elfborn

– 43 Elemental Expert

– 8 Spell Erosion

The Atronach

– 44 Master-at-Arms

The Ritual

– 75 Thaumaturge

I’ll only be covering the blue champion points here, as I change my red and green ones up all the time dependant on the trial I go to. Nothing too spectacular here, I’ll be updating the explanation abit further in the future though.

Use this spread if your group has less than two blockade of storms, or alot of heavy attack builds

The Apprentice

– 56 Elemental Expert

– 51 Elfborn

– 12 Spell Erosion

The Atronach

– 62 Master-at-Arms

– 13 Staff Expert

The Ritual

– 16 Thaumaturge

Races

– Dunmer and Highelf are both viable options, and honestly I don’t see alot of difference between them. Play whatever you want :P.

Parses

More to be added.

Final Words

I’d like to give a big thank you to the entire Hodor, especially the members of the hodor core group. I’d like to give my love, @Hjelmi a big kiss too for keeping me alive during all of this, I don’t know how you manage it. Also, big thanks to @Selawa for helping me brainstorm, @Magna-Ge for helping me out with champion points and @Blackroxee for betraying nightblades and going to the sorcerer side. For those of you that don’t see your names here, you know who you are, and I highly appreciate it. Now, go out there and make Nightblades considered a strong DPS class, and remember as always, FULLFIST!

New player (PS4) – long term playability?

$

OK, I’ve been playing this game for the last few days and have a few questions.

First, I do not believe in pay to play, so I have no intention of buying the “ESO plus” membership (which I did not know about prior to purchase) and I will not be buying crowns with real money.  Since I now know that you cannot participate in any of the main guilds without DLC, what’s the long term solo playability of this game?  I have been a fan of the stand alone versions of these games in the past and my understanding was that this game provided a similar experience, only bigger.  Is this essentially like the main games where there is a central quest line (i.e. story) you can follow and then the game is over?  Or, since it is online, are new quests generated off and on to keep you playing?  I’m getting the impression that only comes from additional purchased content and if that’s the case, I’ll probably be taking this game back (I have seven days for a refund).  I’m not a big online player and while I know that was more or less the point of this game, I was still under the impression you could go it alone and was hoping to go that direction with it.  However, I’m not going to keep paying for content, etc.

Thanks for reading!

Introduction

Hello everyone,
the magicka Nightblade is the gem of all classes in ESO, even if it is definitively not the strongest.
It has this fascinating roguish, bloodmagical character, which I really like.

It is obvious, that I am not the best Nightblade out there, but I hope you enjoy this guide.
The main goal is to introduce new players to this awesome class, and to be thought-provoking for experienced players.
This guide is written based on my experience, trial and error and occasionally some calculations.
Nevertheless the main resource is knowledge and experience from other players.

I can’t thank @Mashinate, @Nosferatuzod and @xBlackroxe enough for their work on tamrielfoundry.
Also many thanks to Sufferas and Mr_Bombastic, the NBs of eXceed.
Special thanks to @Priox, some random Templar living under a bridge in Riften,
and tyrant84 the first magicka NB I met, and who changed Sanyarin’Donnerblatt from stamina to magicka.

Changelog

2.7:
Added Sceenshot vMoL 2. Boss.

Gear

Optimal Gear

If you have the same Maelstrom luck, you should consider Choice 2.

Choice 2

And since I already wasted too much time and gold to get these Staffs, I play

Current Build

Gear Discussion

  • Staffs: Since I don’t have a Maelstrom Staff with the sharpened trait, I could only compare Staffs with the trait defending. But I think the only way a Maelstrom Staff can beat Choice 2 or the current setup is in combination with a Moondancer / Aether Infernostaff. If you don’t have a Moondancer / Aether Staff you will either have a bar with a setless Staff, or a bar with only 4 pieces of the 5-piece-Set. (Keep in mind, that the fire-glyph also deals ~0.75k dps.)
  • Sharpened: Even before the Warhorn-Nerf I got better results with sharpened, instead of precise.
  • 5 piece Sets: Scathing Mage > Julianos at approx 60% uptime of SM. I tested this and usually got between 65 and 75% uptime. Therefore I would prefer to use Scathing Mage over Julianos, but can’t due to RNG. Twice Born Star is worse than Julianos after the Warhorn-Nerf. Then there is Burning Spellweave Nosferatuzod had an uptime of 60% in his last video, which equal 360 SD. This value is the same as Scathing Mage with an uptime of 70%. But Nos uses two additional fire damage sources: Scalding Rune (see Ability Section) and Grothdarr/Ilambris (see below).
  • Monster Sets: Molag Kena is a strong Monster Set, but you have 3 other options: Grothdarr, Valkyn Skoria and Ilambris. The fact that you are forced to stay in melee range using Grothdarr disqualifies that monster set. And since a NB can use Molag Kena in AoE, due to Syphoning Attacks, Grothdarr is not better in AoE. The second set Vakyn Skoria is just the worse but ranged option for Grothdarr players, which tells everything about that set. And last but not least Ilambris. Actually this set sounds interesting in combination with a Lightning Staff.  I do have to do more tests with that monster set. In fact I do have a Maelstrom Lightning Staff, so that might be an option as well.
  • Moondancer/Aether 5% Bonus (Minor Slayer): It is worth mentioning, that the additional damage an Execute Ability deals if a target is below x% health does not get this 5% Bonus. But since the Impale deals roughly 10% of the total dps, I can life with that bug.
  • (5/1/1): Here nothing has changed. You want to have all bonus magicka from the Undaunted Passive Undaunted Mettle.
  • Glyph:  Spelldamage > Fire.  Hence, if you play with a Maelstrom Staff, use SD on the other staff.   If you play without Maelstrom Staff, use the Fire-Enchant on the offbar.  For Daedra-Boss-Monster you exchange this with the daedric enchant.

  • Fourth Set Option: If you don’t have Kena, Maelstrom, Moondancer etc. there is a fourth option available: 5*Julianos / 3*Willpower / 3*Moondancer.
  • Fifth Set Option: And a fifth option: 1*Kena / 5*Julianos / 5*BSW or Scathing. This option is actually very cheap, since you can craft Julianos Staffs. And you need only one piece of Molag Kena with any armor type (since you can craft 2 pieces med/heavy Julianos) and you only need BSW / Scathing Jewellery, which is “easy” to get compared to Staffs.  A guild mate plays with that setup and get’s good results.

Stats with Bufffood, unbuffed

Potions / Bufffood

  • Bufffood: Max HP, Max Magicka
  • Essence of Spellpower: Restore 7,5k Magicka, Increase Magickareg by 20%, Increase Spelldamage by 20%, Increase Spellcrit by 20%¹

¹ Lorkhan’s Tears, Lady’s Smock, Cornflower, Water Hyacinth. The crit buff does not stack with Inner Light. But the finally fixed this  bug. So you can equip inner light on one bar, and use potions to get the spellcrit on the other bar.

Mundus

Skills

The full list of all skills and passives can be found on Skillfactory .
On that page you also get a description of each skill.

The choice of skill placement¹ is based on three basic rules.

  • Rule 1: One Siphoning Ability has to be on each bar, because of the passive Magicka Flood, which increases your max. Magicka by 8%.
  • Rule 2: One Assassination Ability has to be on each bar, because of the passive Hemorrhage, which increases your Crit Damage by 10% (+2% Crit Chance for each skill.)
  • Rule 3: One Destruction Staff Ability has to be on each bar, because of the passive Ancient Knowledge, which increases your ST Damage by 8%².

¹ The placement of Bar 1 and Bar2 holds true with the ideal gear equipped, i.e. Maelstrom Staff on Bar 2.

² In singletarget I roughly deal 45% damage from single target abilitys, 35% from AoE and 15% from Light Attacks and 5% from other sources. Since the main goal is to kill the boss fast, while adds should die from ground DoTs, I chose Inferno Staffs over Lightning Staffs. (But I have to do more tests with Lightning Staffs.)

Skill Discussion

Bar1
  • Sap Essence [1]: Nice AoE-Spam, with good range. I usually replace this skill with a shield, e.g. for vMoL hm or vMoL 1st boss.
  • Force Pulse [3]: ST-Spam. Use this skill whenever you don’t have to recast a DoT.
  • Merciless Resolve [2]: Some time ago this was a very good skill. Now, with the recent nerfs, I feel like this is a wasted skillslot. On average 2*FP deal only ~2k less damage than one Assassins Will. 2*FP deal MORE damage than one Assassins Will. The only reason why this skill is still in my build is Minor Berserk and Rule 2. Minor Berserk should not be an argument if you have good support. But since we don’t have an uptime of Combat Prayer >80% (especially in vMoL hm), I don’t see a good replacement for this skill. Rule 2 only applies because I like to have Impale and Soul Harvest on the same bar.
  • Siphoning Strikes [1]: Mandatory with Molag Kena. Still nice to have if you don’t play Molag Kena.
  • Inner Light: Additional 7% Max Magicka.
  • Shooting Star: Additional 2% Max Magicka and Main-Ultimate.
Bar2
  • Crippling Grasp [1]: ST DoT with high damage. Additionally, this skill grants a 20% speedbuff.  8 Seconds Uptime.
  • Impale [2]: Execute. Used instead of Force Pulse below 25%.  The Bonus damage does not get Minor Slayer from Moondancer / Aether.
  • Twisting Path: AoE DoT with moderate damage. Path got buffed by 30% in the last patch, which makes it “ok” to use. It has 11.5 Seconds Uptime, which makes the rotation uncomfortable.
  • Blockade of Fire [3]: AoE DoT with very high damage. Usually one of the top 3 dps entrys.  8 Seconds Uptime.
  • Inner Light: Additional 7% Max Magicka.
  • Soul Harvest [2]: “Execute Damage Enhancer”. This Skill gives you a nice damage boost during the Execute Phase, or if you have time to put it between two Shooting Stars. There are two reasons this skill is on Bar2 and not Bar1: First, I like to have both Impale and Soul Harvest on the same bar for easy access during the execute phase. (All the DoTs are on that bar as well.) Second, the ulti gain from Soul Harvests Passive does only work if you deal the killing blow on an enemy. Which rarely happens in Boss fights.

The numbers in []-brackets are the rules stated above. On each bar, one of has to be set.

Other Skills
  • Elemental Rage [3]: Since they fixed the problem concerning fluent weaving, I usually use Elemental Rage over Meteor.
  • Veil of Blades: Tell a Templar to use Nova.
  • Funnel Health / Swallow Soul [1]: The weaving with Force Pulse is more fluent. Additionally, sometimes Lightattacks are not recognized with FH/SS-weaving. Which is not good, since Lightattacks are a huge source of dps, and they trigger Molag  Kena.
  • Flame Clench [3]: This skill is up high on my ToDo-List. It is a ST DoT with an uptime of 8sec, that fit perfect with WoE and Grasp. In total this skill deals more damage than one Force Puls. Hence, it pays off using it instead of a Force Puls (every 8 seconds). This would be the replacement for Sap Essence in ST, or Merciless Resolve. This skill fits very nice into Noz  BSW-Build. There is only one drawback: You will have an additional {138 Magicka/sec * ( 1*[Kena Downtime] + [1.33 * Kena Uptime])} drain.  With an uptime of (at best) 70%, this leads to an additional drain of 170 Magicka/sec.
  • Scalding Rune: ToDo-List.
  • Rearming Trap: The biggest disadvantage is that you get forced in close combat. Most of the time I like to stay in mid-range, in the row behind melee players. Additionally one healer uses Twilight Remedy, so occasionally you get that buff as well. And furthermore, the placement take experience. Not only in space, but also in time, e.g. if Rakkhat decides to change the platform. If the trap only activates once, it is not worth placing.
  • Dark Shades: This skill will only give you ~1k dps, which is very low compared to any other skills. The damage debuff is nice, but not necessary. The only reason to use this skill would be using Necropotence, which is exactly the reason I don’t like to use Necropotence. I am pretty sure they fixed shadows stealing SPC(?).
  • Reapers Mark [2]: In AoE this might be a fun skill to use, since you gain a 25%/5sec damage boost if the target dies. But I never tested that. I don’t see this skill as useful in most boss fights.
  • Elemental Ring / Pulsar[3]: Might be a replacement of Sap Essence. Both deal the same damage and have the same cost. Advantage: Fire Damage + effect. Disadvantage: Lower Range (Radius 6 intstead of 8. Which means only ~55% Area.)

CPs

  • Blue: Elemental Expert (100), Elfborn (22), Staff Expert (3), Thaumaturge(75)
  • Green: Magician (100), Arcanist (100)
  • Red: Elemental Defender (80), Thick Skinned (22), Hardy (64), Bastion (14), Quick Recovery (20)

Playstyle

If you read guides, you will often find instructions like [skill1]-LA-[skill2]-LA-… – start again.

I don’t have such a guideline for my rotation, not because it is better, but because I am lazy :D

There are some basic rules.

Above 25%
  • Weaving: Put a Lightattack (not Mediumattack) between each skill. Try to put a Lightattack into a bar swap as well. This will give you a Kena uptime between 60-65% with best at 73% and worst at 55%.  Lightattacks are one of the biggest sources of dps.
  • DoTs: Keep your DoTs up all the time.
  • Merciless Resolve: Shoot it, but don’t recast it as soon as possible. Recast it, when the buff runs out.
  • Shooting Star: Use Shooting Star when you reach 200 ultimate. Try to time it, such that Molag Kena is off. If you don’t do this you will loose ~3,5% dps. Try to activate Molag Kena while Shooting Star is in the air.
  • Potions: Trink after using ultimate. This will result in ~1.2% dps gain.
  • Force Pulse: If you don’t have to use any other skill use Force Pulse.
Below 25%:
  • Weaving: As above.
  • DoTs: Keep WoE and Crippling Grasp up, if they will run for the full duration of 8 seconds. If you use Scathing Mage, keep Twisting Path up as well; if not, don’t.
  • Merciless Resolve: Activate it once >25%, and use Assassins Will. Don’t recast it.
  • Ultimate: If you have >~125 Ultimate save for Shooting Star. Otherwise do the following: Place DoTs, use Soul Havest, do Impale-Weaving for 6 seconds. Replace DoTs and return to the normal “Execute-Rotation”. From now on do this “Soul Harvest Rotation” whenever you have 70 ulti.
  • Potions: As above.
  • Impale: Replace each Force Pulse cast with Impale.
Start:

Merciless Resolve – Siphoning Attacks – Inner Light – fully charged Heavy Attack on bar 1

Then we do what “above 25%” tells us: While Lightattack-Weaving: Shooting Star – WoE –  Crippling Grasp – Twisting Path. (If Scathing Mage, then Twisting Path first.)

 Other (useful) Information:
  • Medium Weave: Since the last change of CPs, you want to have 75 CP in Thaumaturge for 10% increased damage against off balance enemies. This can be achieved by a shock blockade (placed by healer or offtank).  If you hit an enemy (mob or boss) that is off balance with a medium (or hard) attack, you will remove the off balance status. So never use a medium weave, with some exceptions. (e.g. start of the fight, or big switch 2nd boss nMoL)

Boss Monsters

I have been on a break for 3 month, and the following screenshots are made in the first tries of my first raid after the break. I hope to capture better results for the 2nd and 3rd boss, soon.
Numbers in [] are the percentage of boss damage (i.e. singletarget).

Update: Added a second hoster for the screenshots …

vMoL
  • Zhaj’hassa the Forgotten:
    46k (2) [80,1%]
Since we try to minimize our deathcount in vMoL, we use Harness Magicka for the first boss. I replace Sap Essence with that shield.
  • S’kinrai and Vashai:
    41k (2) [73,5%]
    43k (2) [78,2%]
    ⇒ 48k (2) [82,8%] (Destro-Ult instead of Shooting Star)
    50k (2) [68,4%] (Destro-Ult instead of Shooting Star)
Usually I don’t replace any skills for this boss..
  • Rakkhat:
    40k (2) [76,3%]
    ⇒ 41k (2) [88,9%]
    42k (2) [84,8%]
For Rakkhat I replace Sap Essence with Harness Magicka. The non-hm can actually be done without a shield. Our current tactic is to only attack Rakkhat, while all Hulks die from AoE-DoTs. This tactic is common practice by most guilds now.
  • Rakkhat (hm): Work in progress. I hope, that we will be able to get to the “beam phase” consistently, soon. Right now our fights look like chicken-massacres. I can consistently achieve 42-45k (best: 48k) until I have to run outside. Usually I am third runner, with Rakkhat at platform 6.

If you are able to speak German, and want to learn the basic mechanics of each boss, then I encourage you to watch Zapzaraps videos: 1, 2,

(Keep in mind that these are pretty old and taken from early tries. But he explains the basic mechanics very well.)

Damage-Dummy
  • 34k , Buffs: Elemental Drain.

Alternatives: I understand not everyone has access to all this gear so here are some viable alternatives;
