Introduction

Hello everyone,
the magicka Nightblade is the gem of all classes in ESO, even if it is definitively not the strongest.
It has this fascinating roguish, bloodmagical character, which I really like.

It is obvious, that I am not the best Nightblade out there, but I hope you enjoy this guide.
The main goal is to introduce new players to this awesome class, and to be thought-provoking for experienced players.
This guide is written based on my experience, trial and error and occasionally some calculations.
Nevertheless the main resource is knowledge and experience from other players.

I can’t thank @Mashinate, @Nosferatuzod and @xBlackroxe enough for their work on tamrielfoundry.
Also many thanks to Sufferas and Mr_Bombastic, the NBs of eXceed.
Special thanks to @Priox, some random Templar living under a bridge in Riften,
and tyrant84 the first magicka NB I met, and who changed Sanyarin’Donnerblatt from stamina to magicka.

Changelog

2.7:
Added Sceenshot vMoL 2. Boss.

Optimal Gear

If you have the same Maelstrom luck, you should consider Choice 2.

Choice 2

And since I already wasted too much time and gold to get these Staffs, I play

Current Build

Gear Discussion

  • Staffs: Since I don’t have a Maelstrom Staff with the sharpened trait, I could only compare Staffs with the trait defending. But I think the only way a Maelstrom Staff can beat Choice 2 or the current setup is in combination with a Moondancer / Aether Infernostaff. If you don’t have a Moondancer / Aether Staff you will either have a bar with a setless Staff, or a bar with only 4 pieces of the 5-piece-Set. (Keep in mind, that the fire-glyph also deals ~0.75k dps.)
  • Sharpened: Even before the Warhorn-Nerf I got better results with sharpened, instead of precise.
  • 5 piece Sets: Scathing Mage > Julianos at approx 60% uptime of SM. I tested this and usually got between 65 and 75% uptime. Therefore I would prefer to use Scathing Mage over Julianos, but can’t due to RNG. Twice Born Star is worse than Julianos after the Warhorn-Nerf. Then there is Burning Spellweave Nosferatuzod had an uptime of 60% in his last video, which equal 360 SD. This value is the same as Scathing Mage with an uptime of 70%. But Nos uses two additional fire damage sources: Scalding Rune (see Ability Section) and Grothdarr/Ilambris (see below).
  • Monster Sets: Molag Kena is a strong Monster Set, but you have 3 other options: Grothdarr, Valkyn Skoria and Ilambris. The fact that you are forced to stay in melee range using Grothdarr disqualifies that monster set. And since a NB can use Molag Kena in AoE, due to Syphoning Attacks, Grothdarr is not better in AoE. The second set Vakyn Skoria is just the worse but ranged option for Grothdarr players, which tells everything about that set. And last but not least Ilambris. Actually this set sounds interesting in combination with a Lightning Staff.  I do have to do more tests with that monster set. In fact I do have a Maelstrom Lightning Staff, so that might be an option as well.
  • Moondancer/Aether 5% Bonus (Minor Slayer): It is worth mentioning, that the additional damage an Execute Ability deals if a target is below x% health does not get this 5% Bonus. But since the Impale deals roughly 10% of the total dps, I can life with that bug.
  • (5/1/1): Here nothing has changed. You want to have all bonus magicka from the Undaunted Passive Undaunted Mettle.
  • Glyph:  Spelldamage > Fire.  Hence, if you play with a Maelstrom Staff, use SD on the other staff.   If you play without Maelstrom Staff, use the Fire-Enchant on the offbar.  For Daedra-Boss-Monster you exchange this with the daedric enchant.

  • Fourth Set Option: If you don’t have Kena, Maelstrom, Moondancer etc. there is a fourth option available: 5*Julianos / 3*Willpower / 3*Moondancer.
  • Fifth Set Option: And a fifth option: 1*Kena / 5*Julianos / 5*BSW or Scathing. This option is actually very cheap, since you can craft Julianos Staffs. And you need only one piece of Molag Kena with any armor type (since you can craft 2 pieces med/heavy Julianos) and you only need BSW / Scathing Jewellery, which is “easy” to get compared to Staffs.  A guild mate plays with that setup and get’s good results.

Stats with Bufffood, unbuffed

Potions / Bufffood

  • Bufffood: Max HP, Max Magicka
  • Essence of Spellpower: Restore 7,5k Magicka, Increase Magickareg by 20%, Increase Spelldamage by 20%, Increase Spellcrit by 20%¹

¹ Lorkhan’s Tears, Lady’s Smock, Cornflower, Water Hyacinth. The crit buff does not stack with Inner Light. But the finally fixed this  bug. So you can equip inner light on one bar, and use potions to get the spellcrit on the other bar.

Mundus

Skills

The full list of all skills and passives can be found on Skillfactory .
On that page you also get a description of each skill.

The choice of skill placement¹ is based on three basic rules.

  • Rule 1: One Siphoning Ability has to be on each bar, because of the passive Magicka Flood, which increases your max. Magicka by 8%.
  • Rule 2: One Assassination Ability has to be on each bar, because of the passive Hemorrhage, which increases your Crit Damage by 10% (+2% Crit Chance for each skill.)
  • Rule 3: One Destruction Staff Ability has to be on each bar, because of the passive Ancient Knowledge, which increases your ST Damage by 8%².

¹ The placement of Bar 1 and Bar2 holds true with the ideal gear equipped, i.e. Maelstrom Staff on Bar 2.

² In singletarget I roughly deal 45% damage from single target abilitys, 35% from AoE and 15% from Light Attacks and 5% from other sources. Since the main goal is to kill the boss fast, while adds should die from ground DoTs, I chose Inferno Staffs over Lightning Staffs. (But I have to do more tests with Lightning Staffs.)

Skill Discussion

Bar1
  • Sap Essence [1]: Nice AoE-Spam, with good range. I usually replace this skill with a shield, e.g. for vMoL hm or vMoL 1st boss.
  • Force Pulse [3]: ST-Spam. Use this skill whenever you don’t have to recast a DoT.
  • Merciless Resolve [2]: Some time ago this was a very good skill. Now, with the recent nerfs, I feel like this is a wasted skillslot. On average 2*FP deal only ~2k less damage than one Assassins Will. 2*FP deal MORE damage than one Assassins Will. The only reason why this skill is still in my build is Minor Berserk and Rule 2. Minor Berserk should not be an argument if you have good support. But since we don’t have an uptime of Combat Prayer >80% (especially in vMoL hm), I don’t see a good replacement for this skill. Rule 2 only applies because I like to have Impale and Soul Harvest on the same bar.
  • Siphoning Strikes [1]: Mandatory with Molag Kena. Still nice to have if you don’t play Molag Kena.
  • Inner Light: Additional 7% Max Magicka.
  • Shooting Star: Additional 2% Max Magicka and Main-Ultimate.
Bar2
  • Crippling Grasp [1]: ST DoT with high damage. Additionally, this skill grants a 20% speedbuff.  8 Seconds Uptime.
  • Impale [2]: Execute. Used instead of Force Pulse below 25%.  The Bonus damage does not get Minor Slayer from Moondancer / Aether.
  • Twisting Path: AoE DoT with moderate damage. Path got buffed by 30% in the last patch, which makes it “ok” to use. It has 11.5 Seconds Uptime, which makes the rotation uncomfortable.
  • Blockade of Fire [3]: AoE DoT with very high damage. Usually one of the top 3 dps entrys.  8 Seconds Uptime.
  • Inner Light: Additional 7% Max Magicka.
  • Soul Harvest [2]: “Execute Damage Enhancer”. This Skill gives you a nice damage boost during the Execute Phase, or if you have time to put it between two Shooting Stars. There are two reasons this skill is on Bar2 and not Bar1: First, I like to have both Impale and Soul Harvest on the same bar for easy access during the execute phase. (All the DoTs are on that bar as well.) Second, the ulti gain from Soul Harvests Passive does only work if you deal the killing blow on an enemy. Which rarely happens in Boss fights.

The numbers in []-brackets are the rules stated above. On each bar, one of has to be set.

Other Skills
  • Elemental Rage [3]: Since they fixed the problem concerning fluent weaving, I usually use Elemental Rage over Meteor.
  • Veil of Blades: Tell a Templar to use Nova.
  • Funnel Health / Swallow Soul [1]: The weaving with Force Pulse is more fluent. Additionally, sometimes Lightattacks are not recognized with FH/SS-weaving. Which is not good, since Lightattacks are a huge source of dps, and they trigger Molag  Kena.
  • Flame Clench [3]: This skill is up high on my ToDo-List. It is a ST DoT with an uptime of 8sec, that fit perfect with WoE and Grasp. In total this skill deals more damage than one Force Puls. Hence, it pays off using it instead of a Force Puls (every 8 seconds). This would be the replacement for Sap Essence in ST, or Merciless Resolve. This skill fits very nice into Noz  BSW-Build. There is only one drawback: You will have an additional {138 Magicka/sec * ( 1*[Kena Downtime] + [1.33 * Kena Uptime])} drain.  With an uptime of (at best) 70%, this leads to an additional drain of 170 Magicka/sec.
  • Scalding Rune: ToDo-List.
  • Rearming Trap: The biggest disadvantage is that you get forced in close combat. Most of the time I like to stay in mid-range, in the row behind melee players. Additionally one healer uses Twilight Remedy, so occasionally you get that buff as well. And furthermore, the placement take experience. Not only in space, but also in time, e.g. if Rakkhat decides to change the platform. If the trap only activates once, it is not worth placing.
  • Dark Shades: This skill will only give you ~1k dps, which is very low compared to any other skills. The damage debuff is nice, but not necessary. The only reason to use this skill would be using Necropotence, which is exactly the reason I don’t like to use Necropotence. I am pretty sure they fixed shadows stealing SPC(?).
  • Reapers Mark [2]: In AoE this might be a fun skill to use, since you gain a 25%/5sec damage boost if the target dies. But I never tested that. I don’t see this skill as useful in most boss fights.
  • Elemental Ring / Pulsar[3]: Might be a replacement of Sap Essence. Both deal the same damage and have the same cost. Advantage: Fire Damage + effect. Disadvantage: Lower Range (Radius 6 intstead of 8. Which means only ~55% Area.)

CPs

  • Blue: Elemental Expert (100), Elfborn (22), Staff Expert (3), Thaumaturge(75)
  • Green: Magician (100), Arcanist (100)
  • Red: Elemental Defender (80), Thick Skinned (22), Hardy (64), Bastion (14), Quick Recovery (20)

Playstyle

If you read guides, you will often find instructions like [skill1]-LA-[skill2]-LA-… – start again.

I don’t have such a guideline for my rotation, not because it is better, but because I am lazy :D

There are some basic rules.

Above 25%
  • Weaving: Put a Lightattack (not Mediumattack) between each skill. Try to put a Lightattack into a bar swap as well. This will give you a Kena uptime between 60-65% with best at 73% and worst at 55%.  Lightattacks are one of the biggest sources of dps.
  • DoTs: Keep your DoTs up all the time.
  • Merciless Resolve: Shoot it, but don’t recast it as soon as possible. Recast it, when the buff runs out.
  • Shooting Star: Use Shooting Star when you reach 200 ultimate. Try to time it, such that Molag Kena is off. If you don’t do this you will loose ~3,5% dps. Try to activate Molag Kena while Shooting Star is in the air.
  • Potions: Trink after using ultimate. This will result in ~1.2% dps gain.
  • Force Pulse: If you don’t have to use any other skill use Force Pulse.
Below 25%:
  • Weaving: As above.
  • DoTs: Keep WoE and Crippling Grasp up, if they will run for the full duration of 8 seconds. If you use Scathing Mage, keep Twisting Path up as well; if not, don’t.
  • Merciless Resolve: Activate it once >25%, and use Assassins Will. Don’t recast it.
  • Ultimate: If you have >~125 Ultimate save for Shooting Star. Otherwise do the following: Place DoTs, use Soul Havest, do Impale-Weaving for 6 seconds. Replace DoTs and return to the normal “Execute-Rotation”. From now on do this “Soul Harvest Rotation” whenever you have 70 ulti.
  • Potions: As above.
  • Impale: Replace each Force Pulse cast with Impale.
Start:

Merciless Resolve – Siphoning Attacks – Inner Light – fully charged Heavy Attack on bar 1

Then we do what “above 25%” tells us: While Lightattack-Weaving: Shooting Star – WoE –  Crippling Grasp – Twisting Path. (If Scathing Mage, then Twisting Path first.)

 Other (useful) Information:
  • Medium Weave: Since the last change of CPs, you want to have 75 CP in Thaumaturge for 10% increased damage against off balance enemies. This can be achieved by a shock blockade (placed by healer or offtank).  If you hit an enemy (mob or boss) that is off balance with a medium (or hard) attack, you will remove the off balance status. So never use a medium weave, with some exceptions. (e.g. start of the fight, or big switch 2nd boss nMoL)

Boss Monsters

I have been on a break for 3 month, and the following screenshots are made in the first tries of my first raid after the break. I hope to capture better results for the 2nd and 3rd boss, soon.
Numbers in [] are the percentage of boss damage (i.e. singletarget).

Update: Added a second hoster for the screenshots …

vMoL
  • Zhaj’hassa the Forgotten:
    46k (2) [80,1%]
Since we try to minimize our deathcount in vMoL, we use Harness Magicka for the first boss. I replace Sap Essence with that shield.
  • S’kinrai and Vashai:
    41k (2) [73,5%]
    43k (2) [78,2%]
    ⇒ 48k (2) [82,8%] (Destro-Ult instead of Shooting Star)
    50k (2) [68,4%] (Destro-Ult instead of Shooting Star)
Usually I don’t replace any skills for this boss..
  • Rakkhat:
    40k (2) [76,3%]
    ⇒ 41k (2) [88,9%]
    42k (2) [84,8%]
For Rakkhat I replace Sap Essence with Harness Magicka. The non-hm can actually be done without a shield. Our current tactic is to only attack Rakkhat, while all Hulks die from AoE-DoTs. This tactic is common practice by most guilds now.
  • Rakkhat (hm): Work in progress. I hope, that we will be able to get to the “beam phase” consistently, soon. Right now our fights look like chicken-massacres. I can consistently achieve 42-45k (best: 48k) until I have to run outside. Usually I am third runner, with Rakkhat at platform 6.

If you are able to speak German, and want to learn the basic mechanics of each boss, then I encourage you to watch Zapzaraps videos: 1, 2,

(Keep in mind that these are pretty old and taken from early tries. But he explains the basic mechanics very well.)

Tome of Heroes

Hi there, my name is Stefan and for several years I played a whole lot of Elder Scrolls Online. I used to make PvP montages, this was my last one in case anyone still remembers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiWGGn4wd1M

I’ve always been passionate about fantasy pvp gaming and last year, after working as a web design director for a couple of years, I decided it was time for something new. I decided to bite the bullet and try to make a game of my own. Anything other than a mobile game would have been a bit too much for one single person so that’s what I set out to do. 10 months later, I’m now ready to share it with everyone else so here I am!

The game is called Tome of Heroes, it’s a real-time, player versus player mobile game. You can watch its trailer here:

It’s available on both Android and iOS. Hope you guys give it a try and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! In case you want to read more about it, there’s a Kickstarter campaign that I started where I discuss game mechanics and I also included some narrated game footage.

Thanks!

Questions I can't find consensus on.

Hey All, I had a couple of questions while trying to theorycraft patch 3.1 but per the usual playing on XBOX makes getting at numbers difficult as they don’t get stored anywhere to review and instead fly off my screen in such a manner that makes them almost impossible for me to read. As a result of these limitations I ask you all for patience and understanding with the following questions.

1) Infused Maelstrom Staff–I know that the light attacks on my front bar receive the buff because everyone seems to agree but what I don’t know is does the infused amount carry over or is it the ‘non-infused’ amount? I tried testing this by throwing up wall and light attacking with my front bar but the various interactions of ‘on fire’ etc combined with the speed at which numbers fly off the screen made it hard to follow. Does this therefor mean that an infused weapon power glyph loses its ‘infused’ amount when switching to a non infused weapon? With patch 3.1, if infused works the way I hope it does it could be the absolute best back bar trait and that would be cool. Having 2 different traits depending on the bar is more interesting than being forced to keep two sharpened on all at times.

2) It is my understanding that currently Moondancer 3 piece is slightly better than Aether but with patch 3.1 it seems like an interesting question to revisit since Aether will be receiving a 55% buff to its crit bonus while moondancer will receive 13.3%. Has anyone tested this? Also, will Willpower’s 2 piece be receiving the 13.3% buff? I would check these but as a console pleb I can’t access the PTS so thanks in advance!

3) BONUS* I felt like contributing so this is less a question and more a statement of fact. I wondered why, if when you apply a poison to a vMA staff it keeps the weapon enchants hidden passive, wouldn’t it also keep it if you overrode the enchant? So I did it. I overrode the enchant, YOLO right? Thought it dissapears from the weapon your character sheet keeps the bonus. This also works with Masters weapons and the MAX magicka enchant. With this, things like Moondancer weapons are utterly useless if you have vMA weapons since Maelstrom weapons can be enchanted with spell power and will keep their hidden passive of 189 spell. This may be a ‘duh we knew that’ but for those who didn’t and are still weary of trying it on your 1 of a king sharpened sword–try it with a bad staff you have and remember: it will LOOK like you lose it, it will dissapear from the item description itself but look at your character sheet and you will see you still have it.

Thanks again, and sincerest apologies if these questions have been answered elsewhere. Thanks!

"Sub-Zero" Mag Warden PvE dps build, vet trial/vma approved

sub-zero

Background: This build is something that I have been working on since Orsinium was launched with a Mag Sorc. With the recent addition of the Warden class I decided to resurrect the build with some tweaks and I’ve been getting great results considering how lackluster Mag Warden dps is currently. This build is an Ice damage focused build and utilizes the Winterborn set. The Warden’s passives and class abilities allow this build to shine more than it ever has. This build has both flawlessed Vet Maelstrom and completed all non-hardmode vet trials short of vHoF and vMoL. It has good single target (dummy/boss) dps but has some of the highest AoE dps you will see, perhaps competitive with Mag Sorc.

Race: High Elf – far and away best choice because: 4% increase Ice/Lightning (our main) damage, best max Mag boost and Mag recovery boost

Argonian or Breton would work as well but when the dps margin is so thin for a Mag Warden already, race is VERY important for raid qualifying

Attributes: All Magicka

Food: Solitude Salmon-Millet Soup or equivalent CP150 max Mag and Health blue food

Mundus: Thief

Vampire/Werewolf: Vamp stage 2

Champion Points (630 point spread):

Blue CP: 37 Elfborn, 8 Spell Erosion, 56 Elemental Expert, 34 Master at Arms, 75 Thaumaturge

This distribution is the best that I’ve been able to use so far, it’s based off a trial group focused build by a guildmate of mine who does great theorycrafting on PC. I reduced Elfborn and pumped up Ele Expert and Master at Arms because the Winterborn procs are a good chunk of our dps and cannot crit so I tried to boost the proc damage as much as possible. If doing VMA exclusively, take 2-3% out of Thaumaturge and pump up Spell Erosion.

Red Cp: 48 Ironclad, 49 Hardy, 49 Elememental Defender, 40 Thick Skinned, 13 Bastion, 11 Quick Recovery

Green CP: 15 Warlord, 56 Arcanist, 64 Tenacity, 40 Shadow Ward, 35 Tumbling

Red and Green CP distribution is much more flexible, again this is based of my guildmate’s recommendation with some personal tweaks so feel free to tweak to your liking.

Gear:

5 pieces Winterborn (body all divines w/ Magicka glyphs)

3 pieces Infallible Aether (Jewelry all Spell Damage glyphs) *Moondancer/Master Architect would be slightly better but I do not have a set

2 pieces Valkyn Skoria (1 heavy, 1 medium, divines w/ Magicka glyphs)

1 VMA Lightning Staff sharpened with poison *if you don’t have this then a non-set sharpened Lightning Staff with Spell Damage glyph

1 VMA Ice Staff sharpened *if you don’t have this then a non-set sharpened Ice Staff with Frost Damage Glyph or precise VMA Ice Staff

Valkyn provides the second highest range dps for a monster set behind double Ilambris procs but since we are not using any flame damage we do not use Ilambris.

Winterborn is a set that I’ve been trying to get to work consistently since it came out with Orsinium DLC. This build really maxes out its effectiveness because it uses 3 ice DoTs (4 when using Destro Ult) that reliably proc Winterborn within 1-2 seconds after its 2 second cooldown. Wardens also have a passive that increases all Ice damage by 4%, which stack with the High Elf passive to further bring this set closer in line with the meta (Julianos and Necro). Although it is still about 2k less single target dps than Necro from my comparisons.

NOTE: The 60% snare from the Winterborn proc snares bosses and otherwise unslowable enemies, so that’s kinda neat.

Stats (self buffed no major intellect):

Skill Bar:

(Lightning Staff) Deep Fissure – Inner Light – Harness Magicka – Fetcher Infection – Force Pulse — Northern Storm

(Ice Staff) Blue Betty – Inner Light – Destructive Reach – Elemental Blockade – Winter’s Revenge — Elemental Rage

The only thing I change for VMA is I switch out Living Trellis (Green Balance) for Destructive Reach. This provides the self healing I need with a nice HoT as well as a burst heal at the end (or if recasted early).

Rotation: LA>Winter’s Revenge>LA>Destructive Reach>LA>Elemental Blockade>(If Betty is down)LA>Blue Betty>Bar Swap>LA>Deep Fissure>LA>Fetcher Infection>LA>Force Pulse>LA>Deep Fissure>Full Lightning Heavy>LA>Deep Fissure and REPEAT

The reason for a Light Attack between the Full Lightning Heavy and the last Deep Fissure is explained here. Instead of waiting an extra half second, I was suggested to use a LA in between and that is what I have found to be best. Any questions on rotation leave below.

NOTE: This build does not require spell power pots OR MAX MAGES GUILD. We get Major Sorcery from Blue Betty, and Major Prophecy from Inner Light (which only requires Mages Guild Level 2). So for anyone like me who is either low on cash for pots, or really hates lorebook hunting for the 5th time, no worries, this build has you covered.

Dummy Parse Video: coming soon!

My rotation and CP for this build were built off of that of my guildmate Dark_Shadow459. He spent a lot of his own time doing hardcore mathematical theorycrafting for his Warden DPS which I then used to create the best version of this build I could. Credit to him for his work.

Kragh offers the highest damage gain in groups where full target penetration is not achieved. The 1 piece on it is the strongest 1 piece for a stam user to have and offers a whopping 3.8% DPS increase on a non fully penetrated target. In addition its damage is quiet good as well.

2. Why Infused weapon?

With the changes to the CP trees in the Morrowind DLC, infused becomes a viable option for dual wielders.

3. Parses

http://imgur.com/a/yKY8Z – I dont have an Axe, so I am missing quite a bit of damage.

Adding fonts to an addon?

Hey,

Recently started playing ESO again after a long long break.

I’ve been searching addons and installing the ones I want. An annoyance I am facing is that some addons don’t include the font that I want to use, and I would like all my addons to use the same font to keep my UI looking tidy.

How do I go about adding fonts to addons? I’ve searched through the folders and I see no fonts listed, so this makes me think the addons are getting the fonts from the game files.

Thanks for any help.

Overview

The Magicka Sorcerer continues to outshine when it comes to ranged DPS. The ability to do comparable DPS to other melee damage dealers makes it a must have in any group that intends to do Trials. Very powerful in Dungeons and Arenas including Maelstrom. However, in case you are looking for Maelstrom build, this is not what you are looking for as this build is aimed towards group content with good group resource support. If you wanna make it work in Maelstrom you gotta make your adjustment to it :)

Race

Now that Dark Elf got buffed its probably your best choice as sorcerer, but doesn’t mean High Elf is useless now. I even believe they might be both equally powerful.

Attributes

I have all my 64 attribute points into Magicka. and I barely hit the 17k hp. You might gonna need to invest some points into HP if you lack CP. usually 18k is high enough for end game content as a DD with low amount of CP and 17k hp if you have a decent amount of CP.

Champion points

The Mage (You will need to have a group that uses Blocade of Storms to set mobs and bosses off balance)

  • Elemental Expert : 98 points
  • Elfborn : 26 points
  • Thaumaturge: 75 points
  • Staff Expert: 1 point

 The Thief

  • Magician : 100 points
  • Arcanist : 100 points

Potion

I usually use Essence of Spell Power to buff myself with Major Sorcery which is very important for Damage Dealers, also to restore good amount of magicka back. The crit bonus is invalid because we have inner light which gives the exact same buff. Also make sure to have 3 skill points in Medical Use under Alchemy skill tree to increase the duration of the buff significantly.

Gear

Make sure to have 1 piece Heavy and 1 piece medium for benefit from the Undaunted Mettle passive which will increase your max stats by 6%. What you will need is:

  • 5x Necropotence (Drops in Rivenspire)

  • 2x Ilambris (Head drops in Crypts of Heart I)

  • 3x Moondancer / Infallible Aether Jewelry (Moondancer drops in Maw of Lorkhaj, Infallible drops in AA/HRC/SO)

  • 1x Moondancer / Infallible Aether Lighting Staff

  • 1x Inferno Maelstrom Staff (Drops from Vet Maelstrom Arena)

Precise or sharpened?

Sharpened is way superior in casual group, and slightly superior in a really good group.

Double Inferno or Inferno/lightning?

Infero/Lighting all the way on bosses and on trash fights, this is due to the incredible amount of damage our pet can produce. With that our dps from AOE abilities is substantially high therefore Lighting is more beneficial on main bar

Why no more Burning spellweave?

Necroptence outperforms BSW while you have pet running and using Daedric Prey which get boosts pets damage quite ridiculously high in raids. However, we will still need BSW in some fights that is not good for pets.

skills & rotation

Single target bars (with shield)

Bar 1

  1. Mages’ Wrath: Your powerful execute, not as powerful as Jesus Beam or Impale sadly.
  2. Force Pulse: Main Single target spam ability.
  3. Crystal Fragments: A no brainer, this bad boy can crit for 50k+.
  4. Volatile Familiar: This little thing can do a really good amount of damage in single target fight and VERY good AOE. If fight doesn’t fit this pet replace with Bound Aegis
  5. Inner Light: 10% more crit and 5% more magicka. (and 2% more from passives)
  6. Shooting Star: We are using this on bosses only.

Bar 2

  1. Liquid Lightning: One of the most powerful DoT in the game. It does insane amount of damage and must be up all the time in single target and AoE situations.
  2. Daedric Prey: Buffs the hell out of your pet making it deal so much more DPS.
  3. Elemental Blockade: One of the strongest abilities in the game for Magicka users, a must use for AOE and single target.
  4. Volatile Familiar: This little thing can do a really good amount of damage in single target fight and VERY good AOE. If fight doesn’t fit this pet replace with Bound Aegis
  5. Empowered Ward: Cheap damage shield that provide Minor Intellect to your group. Pretty handy
  6. Fiery Rage: Insanely powerful ultimate on trash, it has more tooltip damage than meteor but costs more. Thats why we don’t use it on bosses mostly.

As for rotation it is as following:

Potion > Shooting Star > Liquid Lightning > LA > Elemental Blockade > LA > Pet Pulse > LA > Curse > Swap > LA > Force Pulse > LA > Crystal Frags (when proced) ….. and repeat

In case you are fighting a boss that spawns more than 2 adds occasionally you can keep your dots up (Blockade and liquid) and heavy attack with lightning staff. The splash damage from it will be enough to deal with them.

Single target bars (without shield)

This bar setup was inspired by Senaxu, stack as much magicka as possible on main bar. Had pretty good results with it.

Unholy Dark Knights (UDK)

About Us

The Guild is around 2 years old and well established. We are primarily Aldmeri Dominion for the faction, with some of our members having characters in other factions. We run regular events be it Sewer Runs, Shard Hunting in Cyrodill or Sac a City. And have officers dedicated to setting up and running events on a regular basis. We actively run Normal Mode Trials as well as doing Progression runs to help new people develop their characters. We are working on developing a Vet Trials Team, our current team has just completed vMoL and got their shiny skins.

We have many highly experienced players in all aspects of this game from Dungeons, Trials, PvP, Duellers and Trading. And members who are willing to offer advice to new and not so new players on how to develop their class/character and offer recommendations. Or maybe your not too sure on what you should be doing with those fiddle CP’s post Morrowind update – worry not, we can help you with that.

We have a Weekly Raffle with some awesome prizes donated by members within the Guild.

In addition to the raffle we have a Guild Trader in a major city every week, for which we do not charge trader fees like alot of guilds do nowadays.

In addition for communication outside of the game we use Discord, which is available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. But not Tin Can & String alas. We don’t just talk about the game on here though, we’re also their to support each other with issues in life too.

What We Expect

Most members of our Guild are 25 years or older, with some members in the area of developing grey hair. So we are looking for mature players with a sense of humor that are not easily offended and are willing to actively contribute to the Guild. Also alot of our members have families, myself included. So we understand if you have to randomly go AFK for diaper duty or to see to your kids. If your not on for a while because of real life matters that’s fine we insist you put real life before the game. And when you come back we’ll all still be here.

So if you are interested in joining please feel free to message me on here or I can be reached in game. My PSN: UltraPikey

Horny Tank – DK Main Tank Build for End-Game PvE (Morrowind) (vHoF HM Approved)

$
0

Hey everyone ! Welcome to my DK Main Tanking Build for Update 14 , Morrowind ! This is a build that you can use everywhere without having to change items . It has crazy sustain if you want it to , pretty good tankiness and lots of group support with increased Ultimate Regeneration . Let’s start !

Advantages :

– Decent Health . Still very good if you want to shield spam .

– A lot of sustain but only if you want to .

– Being able to spam anything . Literally , your Magicka DDs are having Magicka issues ? Spam orbs from start of combat until the end . Heavy damage incoming to whole group ? Spam Igneous Shield ! No worries !

– Boosts group survivability a lot and increases DPS of group big time .

Disadvantages :

– No heals for group . Due to low Stamina pool and low Weapon Damage , our Vigor is almost useless . We cover this up by spamming almost 10k Igneous Shield for your group mates though .

– Healer dependant . A lot . If your healer is down , you gonna have a bad time . This is why we are running as DK .

RACE CHOICE

I am Dunmer and happy . BUT , Imperial is simply the best . Max Health is really important for this build . I don’t race change because I like Dunmers ^^

Secondary choices are Argonian , Orc and Nord .

STATS

All to Health .

I have around 48k Health , 10k Magicka and 15k Stamina . Should be higher if Imperial .

ITEMS

5 Ebon Armory : This set is really , really useful . I have seen so many people recovering from under 1000 Health during trials . Without Ebon , they would die . A necessity .

Hands (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Waist (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Jewelry x3 (Healthy) : Shield-Play

5 Tava’s Favor : This is the best set in the game for ultimate regeneration . You simply can’t go wrong with it .

Chest (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Legs (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Feet (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

1h/s on front bar (Infused/Sturdy) : Crusher/Health

Dual Wield on back bar (Decisive/Decisive) : Weakening/Shock Damage

2 Blood Spawn : Only set that increases group DPS . More Warhorns = more group DPS . Simple as that .

Head (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

Shoulder (Heavy/Sturdy) : Health

SKILLS

1.Bar :

1- Pierce Armor : Melee taunt . Applies Major Fracture and Major Breach . Necessity .

2- Heroic Slash : Applies Minor Maim . Gives Minor Heroism . Less damage taken for group and more Ultimate for you .

3- Igneous Shield : Gives nearly 10k shield to allies . Spam this during heavy incoming damage to group . 1st boss vMoL shield phase , Warrior Starfall attack etc. Restores 5% stamina back and gives 3 Ultimate every 6 seconds .

4- Balance : This is where it gets interesting . This skill is considered the most useless by almost everyone . Definitely not . It steals your Health and gives you Magicka . This is how we are able to sustain through everything and spam whatever we want , however we want . Also , this is our resource of Major Ward and Major Resolve .

5- Green Dragon Blood : Increases our Healing Taken by 20% thanks to Minor Vitality and Burning Heart passives and a huge burst heal .

Ultimate- Aggressive Horn : Best Ultimate for tanks . Gives 10% Max Magicka , Max Health and Max Stamina to whole group . That means more survivability for your group and bigger Igneous Shields from Max Health ; more shield size and damage for your Magicka DDs and more pool to block , dodge for Magicka DDs , more damage for Stamina DDs . Even after Major Force nerf , this Ultimate is still the best .

2.Bar :

1- Flex Spot

2- Flex Spot

3- Invigorating Drain : Best tool we have for generating Ultimate . Makes you drop block so be careful while using it .

4- Inner Rage : Ranged taunt . You don’t even have to morph this but if you do , choose the Magicka one .

5- Elude : Necessary for proccing Tava’s Favor . Expensive skill but definitely worth it .

Ultimate- Magma Shell : Saves your ass during emergencies .

Flex Spot skills : You just choose according to the fight .

1- Engulfing Flames : In trials , you should already have a Magicka DK but in pledges , you may not have . This is an insane boost to all other Magicka DDs .

2- Unrelenting Grip : Good old chains . Use wherever it is necessary .

3- Choking Talons : AOE Minor Maim and root . Has some use in trials and pledges .

4- Dragon Fire Scale : Has only one use . Ghost boss in AA . You don’t even have to block there . You can just reflect everything with this . Does around 10k DPS ^^

5- Turn Undead : 24 seconds of AOE Minor Protection . Insane .

6- Mystic Orb : Really useful skill for Magicka sustain of DDs .

7- Bone Surge : Your off-tank can use the synergy to proc Alkosh while giving lots of shield to your allies .

8- Sanguine Altar : 46 seconds of 750 Healing per second to every DD .

9- Retreating Maneuver : Speed Buff . Necessary in speed runs and certain situations .

10- Echoing Vigor : Even though our Vigor is almost useless , I will definitely try this with using Powerful Assault instead of Alkosh .

11- Efficient Purge : Purges the negative effects from your allies .

12- Stalwart Guard : Make sure you keep this on both bars if you gonna use it . Increases damage of an ally by giving them Minor Force and protects them .

CHAMPION POINTS

RED

66 Ironclad , 43 Elemental Defender , 43 Hardy , 56 Thick Skinned , 2 Heavy Armor Focus

GREEN

2 Warlord , 75 Tenacity , 52 Tumbling , 81 Shadow Ward .

BLUE

49 Blessed , 41 Elfborn , 100 Precise Strikes , 20 Thaumaturge . Since we have almost no healing , I decided to get Major Heroism . It procs time to time .

That is all for now . I will update this guide according to the changes incoming . If you have any questions , you can mail me in-game @LiofaTR (PC EU) or just leave a comment here . Thanks for reading !

Cheers ,

How to craft and get better armor

Hi,

Well I started to play this game, but I´m struggling with armor, all I can do is to craft my own (I´m using light armor) But now I can´t craft anything higher than lv. 15 armor, and my character is currently lv. 17, What can I do? How do I get or craft better armor? Also, It´s recommended to purchase armor from sellers or it´s better to craft armor? And how can I change the color or style of the ones that I craft? Sorry for the trouble, I´m new in this kind of things, but I really want to learn.

Thanks!

Leveling tips 1-50

Since we are seeing a lot of the same questions about starting out and leveling characters let me just lay out some general tips for people who are new to the game.  This is redundant info from @FrancisCrawford‘s thread below, but  people tend to not search and read before asking (go there and read for great info!):

http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/general-tips-for-new-or-returning-players/

So!  When you start a character, especially your first character you are taking to 50 as a new player, this is what you need to be successful:

1) grinding your first character to 50 is a waste. This is an mmoRPG… rpg… Play through the game. I promise you, endgame is fun but if you dont know how to play you are just going to suck and struggle in endgame pvp and group pve content… Plus if you just grind you still have to go all the way back through every zone gathering skyshards, lorebooks and completing the core quests that reward skill points so that you have enough skill points to spend to have all the necessary morphs and passives… Dont screw yourself by grinding. You are just making it boring to catch up later. Also, once you have completed all the endgame content you will just get bored – the only thing left is grinding out the best gear and repetitive pvp. Not everyone has the mentality of wanting to have/be the best… And as such will just quit after a couple months of repetitive endgame dungeons, trials, etc. just play the game and enjoy it your first play through… Then worry about endgame.

2) use your skill points to unlock the first skill of each class skill line and weapon skill line for the spec you are playing (by spec i mean magicka or stamina… Those are usually defined by race choice based on the racial passive strengths).

3) you have 5 skill slots and an ultimate.  Slot one skill from each class line and two weapon skills.  For stamina specs, your first weapons should really be 2h and bow; for magicka obviously resto and destro.  I will discuss later why.  Killing enemies and completing quests will give the slotted skills and their skill lines xp to rank them up.  The same goes for the weapon and armor you are actively using when you gain xp.

4) at first wear head, chest, legs heavy armor, feet and shoulders medium, belt and hands light.  Ideally these should all be training traits as well… But as long as you have a couple pieces of each armor type you are in good shape to level all 3 quickly.  Having more defense with heavy armor is fine at first because you have no passives unlocked for any of the 3 armor lines… So just gear to survive.  Once you hit level 20-30 or so you will have reached a significant level for each of these armor skill lines to choose 5 pieces of the type that suits your spec best; continue to wear 1 of each of the other 2 types until they reach rank 50.

5) try to utilize a crowd control (cc) skill to assist you in survivability… These are stuns, knockdowns, knockbacks, petrify… When you apply one of these status effects to an enemy, when the duration ends they have a short period of time of immunity to all CC skills.  Pairing a “hard” CC like those above with soft CC (immobilize, also called “root,” and snare) allows you to lock most foes up or at least limit their ability to attack you by keeping them away while you stay mobile.  The first destro staff skill used with a flame staff and morphed to “clench” is a great knockback/stun; wrecking blow from 2h is another skill that will do the same; the “bombard” morph of arrow spray from bow skill line is a great area immobilize that you can virtually spam to keep enemies away from you (even many delve and world bosses!); many classes have CC skills as well that you can take advantage of… DK, for example, early on has the first skill of earthen heart line that will have a similar effect as flame clench.  Use CC to your advantage especially against multiple enemies.

6) always get the first strike of any combat.. And make it a fully charged heavy attack! Then CC… Dont open with CC if you can manage because it will buy you 2-3 seconds of free attacking.  Heavy attack then CC.  And against multiple enemies, after you use CC always kill the ranged enemies first.. Archers and mages are very dangerous since they can be difficult to get close to as combat starts and immediately start damaging you… Stun or knock them down, close the gap and kill them… Then move on to the melee enemies.

7) you should unlock some healing skill as soon as possible… For stamina specs you are kind of limited to momentum (rally) from 2h, blood craze and bloodthirst from dw, vigor from pvp assault skill line and whatever class heals you may have access to + potions.  DK have dragon blood that does not scale its heal based on your max magicka; it scales on your health – more specifically how much health you are down from max.  Stamina nightblades have killers blade and mark target that also heal you when an enemy dies, which is useful.  Potions that heal you are essential for low level characters as well.  for magicka specs, resto is an obvious advantage for healing… Regeneration is pretty awesome for soloing and either morph works nicely.  Templars also have heals in class; nightblades have siphoning skills that heal as well.

8) key skills should offer CC, area damage, single target damage and healing… Early on all you really need is the ability to hit a target with a heavy attack + 1-2 single target damage skills to kill it, and you can lean on potions for healing.  The rest of your skill slots are for ranking up skills and skill lines… As you progress you will need more useful skills in terms of utility and variety of effect.

9) rank up everything in class and weapon skill lines… Magicka characters also rank up mages guild by collecting lorebooks… If you have issues finding lorebooks, google it.  There are tons of maps out there that show you where all the books are – being on console with no addon to show you in game isnt an excuse.  Fighters guild is easy to rank up for all characters; just kill daedra and undead.  By 50 you should have at least rank 6-7 of each… Mages guild you can finish by halfway through cadwell’s silver zones; fighters just takes time grinding zombies or skeletons somewhere once you hit 50.

10) join guilds.  You can have 5 – a good trader, social and endgame guilds are nice to have and keep you busy working with others to complete content.  Asking for help is easy in your guilds, and with 5 to ask in, you can bet you will have people that want to help you when you need it.

11) there is no such thing as a leveling build… Feel free to follow deltia and syphers leveling guides if you really want, but the reality is they are just suggestions on how to successfully survive while doing all of the things i have stated above.  There are dozens of approaches you can use… Just find what works for you.  And if you continue to struggle after trial and error… Come here and post to this thread and ask for help!  That is what we are here for!

12) dont bother pvping until 15+ when you have a second bar…. And even then i wouldnt bother until 30+ when you actually have more skill points and ranks to be able to use all class, guild and armor skills and passives that would make you competitive.

13) expand your inventory and bank!  Dont keep running back and forth to town every 10 minutes with a full inventory.  Also keep uograding your horse!  Do bag space first, then speed, then stamina.  You dont really need speed or stamina until you go to cyrodill and have to ride around that huge map.  The larger your bag the less time you have to keep going back to town to empty it…

14) inventory management tips:  research every trait, every craft… Sell all white items you dont need to research…  Deconstruct everything else.  Refine all raw materials.  Only store refined materials, alchemy and provisioning ingredients and weapons/armor that have traits you need to research… And store them in your bank as much as possible.  If you are above the level of the refined materials you have saved up, just sell them to NPCs or guild stores if you have a trader; dont store low level materials you will never need.  Keep your inventory clear!

15) how to deal damage efficiently… Your skills scale from the attributes that power them – magicka skills scale from max magicka, spell damage and spell crit… Stamina skills scale from max stamina, weapon damage and weapon crit.  If you are using magicka skills you should really be using a staff; stamina users should have dw, 2h, 1hs or bow.  Gear accordingly.  Do not try to use both or you WILL SUCK.  We call characters with stats evenly distributed and trying to be jack of all trades “hybrids” – and we know from over 2 years of play in an mmo with evolving game mehanics that hybrids are garbage.  Pick 1 attribute to focus on and use that stat for damage and healing; the other attribute is for utility and buffs that do not scale up with the attribute.  I should probably move his to #2 on the list because it is probably the singular most important and most basic mechanics knowledge… But i dont feel like renumbering this on my phone :)  hope you read this far!  if not… you are lazy and are doomed to failure!  muahahahahaha!  half kidding…  hope you read this far though :P

………………………

if i think of something else i will update this later… You have more wuestions beyond what i have probided above please POST THEM HERE AND NOT IN YOUR OWN THREAD!!  Otherwise i will just keep merging them in here to keep our forums clean, which makes my thumbs tired on my iphone… Save my thumbs!  And if you didnt read this far because WORDS… I am not sure anyone can truly help you.  Lazy!  /slap!

may the odds be ever in your favor.
